Chapter 8 - Chapter 8: Not the Only Transmigrator

Hun Xiu stared directly at Hun Tiandi, with no intention of backing down. He had made up his mind about this cultivation method—he was going to take it.

Hun Tiandi looked at the youthful face of his son, filled with determination, and couldn't help but sigh. "Xiu'er, do you know the origin of this technique?"

Hun Xiu respectfully replied, "Xiu'er does not know. I ask Father to enlighten me."

From Hun Tiandi's tone, Hun Xiu could already tell that his cheap old man was softening.

If Hun Tiandi had insisted on stopping him from cultivating the Devouring Fire Codex, to be honest, Hun Xiu wouldn't have been able to do anything. But now that he showed signs of relenting, Hun Xiu's heart couldn't help but feel a flicker of joy.

Hun Tiandi slowly explained,"This technique was something I stumbled upon while venturing through the continent. I discovered it in an ancient cave dwelling."

"As for its rank, I don't know. And I can't even understand the contents—only the four characters on the cover are recognizable."

"So, Xiu'er, you should understand that this cultivation method isn't something you can learn. Give it up. Just focus on cultivating the Imperial Flame Art."

As he said this, Hun Tiandi once again handed over the Imperial Flame Art.

He had made his meaning very clear—surely the boy would now make the "correct" choice?

Hun Xiu looked at the Imperial Flame Art in Hun Tiandi's hand, then at the Devouring Fire Codex in his own.

He firmly shook his head."Father, I still wish to choose the Devouring Fire Codex."

"Sigh… Foolish child!"

Hun Tiandi shook his head in disappointment and sighed inwardly when he heard his son choose a "useless" technique he couldn't even read.

Hun Tiandi said,"Since you've chosen the Devouring Fire Codex, don't regret it later."

His tone was firm, and there was a clear undertone of displeasure.

After all, even after making everything so obvious, Hun Xiu still went and chose the Devouring Fire Codex instead of the superior Imperial Flame Art.

Hun Tiandi couldn't help but feel a twinge of regret. Why did he suddenly and inexplicably take out this technique that had been sitting untouched in his storage ring for countless years?

Wasn't he just hurting his own son this way?

Yet Hun Xiu's youthful face remained resolute."Xiu'er won't regret this. I'll accept whatever price I must pay for my choice."

"Very well. Remember what you said."Hun Tiandi's voice grew heavier, though his eyes revealed a trace of satisfaction.

"Xiu'er will remember."

"Hmph…"

Hun Tiandi gave a dissatisfied snort and turned to leave, leaving Hun Xiu standing there alone.

Back beside Void Swallowing Flame, the elder asked with a chuckle, "How did it go, Tiandi?"

Hun Tiandi replied, "That little brat actually rejected the Imperial Flame Art."

"Huh?"

Void Swallowing Flame was taken aback. After a moment, he asked,"The Imperial Flame Art is the strongest known fire-type technique in the entire Hun Clan. He didn't want it?"

"Nope."Hun Tiandi gave a small nod. In his view, his son simply had no interest in the Imperial Flame Art.

"Damn…"Void Swallowing Flame clicked his tongue."This little guy's pretty picky."

Then he asked, "So what technique did he choose in the end?"

In his eyes, since Hun Xiu had rejected the Imperial Flame Art, he surely wouldn't accept any lesser fire techniques either.

Hun Tiandi asked in return,"Void, do you remember the technique we found back in that ancient cave dwelling?"

Void Swallowing Flame paused to recall and then said,"You mean the Devouring Fire Codex?"

"Mhm."Hun Tiandi nodded. "That one."

Void Swallowing Flame blinked. "Isn't that the one we couldn't understand at all?"

But the moment those words left his mouth, realization struck him."You're telling me… that kid chose the Devouring Fire Codex?"

"Yes."

Hun Tiandi sighed helplessly. He still didn't understand what possessed him to bring out that dusty old technique in the first place.

Even now, he couldn't explain his own actions.

Void Swallowing Flame was stunned."Isn't that the one we both spent years trying to decipher with no success? And you gave it to that little brat?"

"You think he'll be able to read it?"

Void Swallowing Flame remembered very clearly—they'd both been intrigued when they found it in the ancient cave.

Especially Void Swallowing Flame. When he first saw the words Devouring Fire Codex, he had high hopes, believing it might be connected to a legendary figure.

He'd thought it was his moment of destiny.

But after opening the book, he was disappointed—it was incomprehensible.Neither he nor Hun Tiandi could understand it.

They even spent several years studying it, trying to unlock its secrets.

But in the end… the codex remained an indecipherable mystery, like a heavenly tome beyond their grasp.

If Hun Tiandi hadn't mentioned it, Void Swallowing Flame might've completely forgotten it existed.

Hun Tiandi muttered,"But what if… he can understand it?"

"Let's hope so," Void Swallowing Flame replied, clearly skeptical.

How could a child—who hadn't even grown all his hair yet—understand something two mighty beings had failed to decipher over years?

It was laughable.

Even Hun Tiandi didn't truly believe it.But deep inside… he still held a sliver of hope.

Because even after his strong hints, the boy still chose the Devouring Fire Codex.

What if… just what if… he really could read it?

Just like he said: they were fated.

After Hun Tiandi left, Hun Xiu slowly opened the Devouring Fire Codex.

But the moment he did, he was stunned.

"These are… Chinese characters?"

His heart trembled as he stared at the characters, unable to contain his excitement.

This was the Dou Qi Continent—a different world entirely. Its culture was completely unlike that of Earth.

And yet the Devouring Fire Codex was written in Chinese.

Which meant…

He wasn't the only transmigrator.

He wasn't alone.

Someone else had come to this world before him—and had even left behind this technique.

And that person may have come from the same place he once called home.

"...Hsss."

That terrifying thought sent a cold chill through Hun Xiu.
