Chapter 4 - The Song Beneath the Depths

Chapter 4 – The Song Beneath the Depths

Kael stood at the border of the Sea of Mirathal, where land surrendered to a shimmering turquoise horizon. The waves churned softly under the silver gaze of the moon, and the salty breeze carried whispers of something ancient—something that stirred even Elowen's flames into flickering silence.

Two Bonds formed. A path still obscured. And now, the ocean called.

> [System Alert: Anomaly Detected – Sovereign Pulse Emission from Maritime Zone: Depth 9000+ meters]

[Trial Candidate Identified – Aquaria, Songborn of the Abyss]

Elowen floated beside him, her robes trailing the wind. "Aquaria's domain is not easily entered. Even gods avoid those waters."

Kael's voice was quiet. "But I must. The system chose her."

Lilixra's voice echoed from the darkened flame mirror Kael carried. "Or she chose you, mortal. Be careful. Sirens don't sing for the weak—they sing for those they want to drown."

Beneath the Surface

The dive was not easy.

Kael borrowed ancient diving gear from a secret vault beneath the Academy—equipment designed to withstand the magic-heavy zones below the surface. Every breath he took within the submersible was filtered through mana-reactive glyphs.

But nothing could prepare him for what awaited below.

As he passed the 5000-meter mark, the waters changed. Color faded. Light bent unnaturally. The seaweed grew in impossible shapes, twisting with purpose, as if trying to sing with every movement.

At 8000 meters, the submersible malfunctioned.

At 9000, Kael blacked out.

And then… he heard it.

The Siren's Dream

Kael awoke suspended in a vast cathedral of coral, glowing with bioluminescent veins. Music filled the space—haunting, mesmerizing, and mournful.

In the center of it all, she swam.

Her scales shimmered like opal fire, shifting from teal to silver. Her hair floated around her like liquid silk, and her eyes—twin orbs of deep aquamarine—studied him with both curiosity and ancient sadness.

"I am Aquaria," she said. "Keeper of the Silent Choir. Daughter of the Abyss."

Kael floated without effort, drawn into her song.

> [Trial Initiated: Siren's Sorrow – Objective: Harmonize with the Song of Loss]

Aquaria reached toward him, fingers grazing his temple.

And the pain began.

He saw glimpses of her world—her kin slaughtered by surface dwellers centuries ago, her kingdom shattered, her throne claimed by voidspawn. Her voice was her last weapon, her only salvation.

Kael sang in reply—not with voice, but with memory.

He shared his pain. His mother's death. His fall from grace. His fury.

Their souls danced.

> [Soul Convergence: 49%… 61%… 79%... Trial Condition Met]

Kael's body glowed, markings shifting into oceanic patterns.

Aquaria smiled through tears. "I did not think I would sing again with another. Not like this."

> [Bond Formed – Aquaria, Siren of the Deep Abyss – Level 1]

[New Ability: Abyssal Echo – Nullify all sound-based or mind-control attacks, emit psychic waves to paralyze enemies within a radius.]

Kael reached forward, his palm against her chest. "You don't have to sing alone anymore."

And for the first time in centuries… she sang a song of hope.

---

Return to the Surface

Kael awoke washed upon the shore, the glyphs on his body now including a luminescent wave over his heart. Elowen appeared first, checking him. Lilixra's flame mirror pulsed ominously.

"She's… powerful," Lilixra muttered. "And she's not entirely sane."

"She's wounded," Kael said, rising slowly. "But she's mine now."

> [Bond Count: 3/10]

[Factions Alerted: Celestine Accord | Abyssal Order | Sovereign Hunters]

Kael looked out over the waves.

He was no longer just a boy seeking vengeance.

He was becoming a force that would unite what the realms feared most—gods, demons, monsters, myths.

And his legend was only beginning.
