Chapter 26 - Steel on Snow

The Snow Falls Again

The snow returned to Zhaoling like a quiet omen.

Children stopped playing in the streets. Women hurried indoors. The smithy burned through the night, sparks flying like embers of war. There was no laughter—only preparation.

Lady Mei was coming.

This time, she brought two full battalions, equipped with siege rams and fire carts. Her army had marched through towns with banners high and swords drawn. She had not come to negotiate.

She had come to crush.

Inside Zhaoling's war room, Lü Bu stood over the table map, surrounded by his inner circle.

"She means to burn us out," Wei Yun said. "We're outnumbered five to one."

"Then we hold the walls," Lü Bu replied, voice calm. "Not with fear. With purpose."

He looked around the room. Every man and woman there had bled to see Zhaoling rise. This was not just a village anymore. It was a symbol.

And symbols didn't fall easily.

⚔️ Preparing the Iron Core

The Iron Core—Lü Bu's handpicked elite—stood in silence on the snow-covered training field.

Not one of them flinched from the cold. They had trained for this.

"You are not farmers anymore," Lü Bu said, voice echoing.

"You are iron sharpened by struggle. You are my blade."

"We fight not just for land—but for the right to exist. For the dream we forged in fire."

The soldiers slammed their fists to their chests, voices rising.

"IRON TO THE CORE!"

"FOR ZHAOLING!"

"FOR THE WARLORD!"

The once-scattered survivors were now something greater—an elite, disciplined force ready to defy an empire.

🛡 Defenses Set

Wei Yun organized the outer barricades. Arrows were soaked in oil. Hidden trenches were filled with spikes. Boiling pitch waited atop the ramparts.

Zhaoling had no walls made of stone—but they had hearts that would not bend.

"If we fall," Wei Yun told the militia, "we fall like legends."

"But we won't fall."

The Battle Begins

At dawn, the drums of Lady Mei's army echoed like thunder.

Lines of soldiers advanced, siege rams crawling toward the gates. A flag with Mei's sigil—red snake over steel—fluttered above them.

"Give them nothing," Lü Bu whispered.

Then—he raised his halberd.

"LOOSE!"

Flaming arrows lit the sky.

Explosions rocked the front lines as pitch and fire consumed the first wave. Screams tore through the air, mixing with the clash of steel and the roar of war.

Mei's rams reached the gate—but hidden traps triggered beneath them. The machines exploded in flames.

The soldiers inside Zhaoling fought like devils. The Iron Core struck with precision, never breaking rank. They weren't just fighting for land—they were fighting for the very idea of freedom.

Face to Face

In the midst of chaos, a path cleared.

And there she was—Lady Mei, clad in red armor, blade drenched in frost and blood. Her eyes met Lü Bu's across the field.

"You dare defy the South?" she shouted.

"I dare to dream," Lü Bu answered, stepping forward.

"And I don't bow to tyrants."

They clashed—steel on steel, snow turning red beneath them.

Mei was fast. Deadly. But Lü Bu was no longer just a warrior—he was a leader, forged through battle and belief.

With a final, thundering strike, he shattered her sword and sent her crashing into the snow.

"Tell your lords," he said coldly, "Zhaoling is no longer prey."

Lü Bu stood atop the gate, staring at the horizon. Blood still dripped from his blade.

"We've bought time," Wei Yun said, limping to his side.

"We've bought belief," Lü Bu replied.

"Now we build something no army can burn."

Below them, the Iron Core knelt.

And above them, the world shifted.

It was a banner.
