Having Ayla retort wasn't strange, but hearing her retort so sarcastically rendered a usually sharp-tongued Talia speechless.
Fuming, she slapped her palm against the table and noisily pushed the chair back, the noisy screeching sound filling the quiet air as she got to her feet.
Before she could say a word, Silas reprimanded Ayla icily, "Ayla, you're being disrespectful to Mother. All she did was point out something you did wrong. You owe her an apology for this rudeness."
Elena chose this time to call out to them shakily, "Mother, Silas, please take it easy with Mrs. Locke. She must've had a bad day at work last night and didn't realize when she lashed out at Mother instead."
Pausing, she inched toward Ayla and reached out to hold her hand, her brows scrunching up worriedly.
"I know you didn't mean to be rude, but you still did wrong talking back to her. Apologize quickly before she gets really angry."
Talia huffed, whipping her head to the side.
