The main door creaked open.
Alaric sat up straight as two figures stepped inside.
Sari closed the door behind them, but his eyes remained fixed on the other figure who walked a few steps forward and spoke in a soft, composed tone.
"You're doing well," the figure said, pulling back their hood to reveal a striking face.
Emerald-green eyes shining brighter than the gems, looking at him, gently.
Raven-black hair cascading down her shoulders in a wave of silk.
"I was worried for nothing," she added.
Alaric paused mid-bite, blinked once, then nodded. "Yeah. I'm fine."
He returned to his food, chewing slowly, and thought.
She's here now. Think, Alaric. Make her interested in you somehow.
Selene took a seat across from him, her smile unwavering despite the odd way he was acting.
He's acting weird, she thought, but kept it to herself.
Sari sat beside Alaric in silence.
Alaric found himself staring at Selene, wondering how she could be so calm, so composed.
