Magnus' POV
Magnus wiped at his face roughly with the back of his hand, though his tears still fell freely. He didn't care. At least now there was something to hold on to.
The mate bond. She was still theirs.
But then, a thought gnawed at him. His eyes narrowed as he turned toward Alexander.
"Wait a damn second," he said. "How do you know all this, huh? How do you know exactly what Andra said, what she felt, why she left?"
Alexander's jaw tightened. His gaze dropped to his clasped hands. For the first time, the calm doctor seemed uneasy.
Magnus straightened, something flashing in his eyes. "Spit it out…" he ordered.
The silence stretched heavy between them until Alexander finally exhaled and lifted his head.
"Because I was the one who helped her run away..."
Magnus froze. The words hit like a blade to the gut.
