Chapter 27 - I believe

Recently, a terrible piece of news has been spreading throughout the Kingdom of Lordaeron: it is said that a very evil cult organization has spread a terrible plague in Stratholme that turns living people into ghouls. It is now a living hell, and few survivors remain in the closed city. At the kingdom's council, some nobles even suggested that the king slaughter the city to stop the spread of the plague.

Regardless of the truth of this news, everyone has indeed not received any news from that city for several days, and the nearby outposts do not allow anyone to enter the city.

As the second largest city in the Kingdom of Lordaeron and the most important town in the west, everyone knows what the loss of this city means.

However, good news soon came: the wise King Terenas announced that a new and powerful ally had joined the Alliance and would fight the plague together with Lordaeron. This force, called Valoran, even has creatures like the mythical angels working for it. Many people in the royal city have recently seen this angel, who is covered in golden armor, and some have even received blessings from her. Therefore, ordinary people have an optimistic feeling that the crisis is about to pass.

"Faranell, double-check that we have brought all of our things," Archmage Drendan asked his deputy while checking his own belongings.

Faranell is one of the most researched mages in Dalaran in the field of pharmacy, and is also the main assistant in Drendan's alchemy laboratory. He has a special talent, especially in poisons and antidotes. This time, being able to go to the front line in person, they will definitely be able to grasp more confidence about the plague.

Faranell checked again and then replied, "Everything is brought, everything on the list, Archmage Drendan."

On the side, Uther supported his teacher, Archbishop Alonsus Faol. This respectable old man, deeply loved by the people, is already in his twilight years, short and fat, looking very kind and amiable, but he knows that his body will not be able to support him for much longer. The old man wants to make a contribution to the suffering people of Lordaeron before he dies, to the best of his ability.

Archmage Antonidas could obviously feel his weakness and asked worriedly, "Your Excellency Archbishop, can your body still support this teleportation? You must know that this may seriously damage your physical condition."

"Don't worry, my old friend," Faol waved his hand nonchalantly, "Although I am old and useless, I can still support one teleportation."

Antonidas wanted to persuade him to give up this idea, but the old man's kind but firm eyes told him that this was obviously futile.

Aiden also saw this scene in his eyes. He bowed deeply to Faol and said, "You are indeed a sage worthy of admiration by all people."

"No, no, my child, I am just doing what I think I should do. Going to Stratholme seems to me to be a more meaningful thing, otherwise I can only lie in bed waiting for the Holy Light to welcome me to heaven," Faol smiled, the deep lines around his eyes almost concealing his eyes, but still allowing people to see the firmness and yearning in his eyes.

The Archbishop looked at the Judgment Angel standing aside with a sword and asked, "Angel Kayle, is the place where the angels of your Eternal Kingdom live heaven?"

"I'm afraid not," Kayle shook her head. She recalled that in her countless years of life, killing occupied most of her memories. A real paradise should not have so much fighting, "We don't even know if it exists at all."

"Of course it exists, my angel," the Archbishop smiled and pointed to his heart, "It's here, in everyone's heart."

Kayle was silent and speechless. But only she herself understood the impact of the old man's words on her heart—although the Archbishop's short life was not even one percent of hers.

"Summoner, do you believe in heaven?"

Aiden replied, "Whether it exists or not, I am willing to believe it exists."

In order to deal with the plague in Stratholme, and the new plagues that may appear in the future, this time Lordaeron, Dalaran, and Valoran, which newly joined the Alliance, united to form a small and capable team to go to the place where the incident occurred to find a way to crack the plague.

Dalaran brought the elites of its alchemy laboratory, and Archmage Antonidas and Dreydon will all go together. Similarly, the Church will also be led by the spiritual leader Faol, with the physicians and priests who are most knowledgeable about pharmacy in the Church, to face the plague directly. As for Aiden and Kayle, representing Valoran, they also hope to do something within their power. Prince Arthas, representing Lordaeron, will also go there to collect the damage caused by the plague and compile it into data. This will become the key evidence for persuading the countries of the Alliance to unite and launch a northern expedition in the future.

When everything was ready, the archmages joined forces to cast a teleportation spell, taking the assembled people to the front line of the plague—Stratholme.

… …

Dathrohan was somewhat annoyed, tugging at his hair. A strange situation has now appeared in Stratholme: during the day, the Knights and the City Defense Army control most of the surrounding areas, but once night falls, except for the heavily guarded key areas, other places become unsafe.

Facts have proved that the cultists of the Cult of the Damned have indeed secretly organized and launched zombies to gradually erode the city. They kill uninfected citizens and resurrect them as ghouls, or pollute clean water sources and grain warehouses, causing trouble everywhere, making Dathrohan overwhelmed.

Most of the Knights' and soldiers' actions can be escaped by these cunning groundhogs. That's right, they use the city's underground water pipes to scurry and attack, and Dathrohan's men are simply unable to launch a cleanup against them.

Sensitive Dathrohan began to suspect that someone in his staff must have secretly defected to the Cult of the Damned. So now he plans to create a false impression to test this hidden tumor in the upper echelons. However, this also caused a sequela—he now looks at everyone around him and feels that he may be an undercover agent, which makes him a little neurotic and suspicious.

Fortunately, good news came yesterday that his good brother Gavinrad the Dire had survived the dangerous period, and his left arm is now gradually regaining consciousness. If everything goes well, he will be able to return to the battlefield in the future.

Now Dathrohan very much hopes that someone will share his worries. Gavinrad, who also studied under Archbishop Faol, will definitely be a good helper.

While he was troubled, the guard brought him a message: the reinforcements sent by the kingdom have arrived!

"Archbishop, how could you come here!" Dathrohan saw Uther supporting Faol, who was having difficulty walking. He knew his beloved teacher's body well, and such bumps and hard work would only make his health worse.

"Why can't I come? Look, haven't I already come? Don't worry, my child, I know my situation very well."

Uther gave Dathrohan a helpless expression. Even he couldn't dissuade him, let alone Dathrohan.

"Let's talk about the situation here first," Uther asked directly.

Dathrohan described the detailed situation in the most concise prophecy possible.

Arthas frowned after listening and said, "That is to say, the biggest threat in Stratholme now is the secret sabotage of the Cult of the Damned, and the possible internal spy threat?"

"Yes, Your Highness."

Uther took over the command and arranged, "Then let's do our respective duties and start working. The mages of Dalaran need some important specimens, and we will track down more clues about the Cult of the Damned. The Archbishop and physicians will cooperate with the mages to study ways to crack the plague. Lady Kayle, since your blessing may play a role in preventing the plague, I hope you can provide them with some help."

"Alright" Kayle nodded.

The latest novels are available at Six Nine Book Bar!

Aiden asked curiously, "Then can you directly heal those who are infected?"

"I'm afraid not, Summoner," Kayle shook her head. She knew very well the effect of her blessing. It could prevent some evil from invading the body of the blessed, but when the invasion had already occurred, blessing again would be futile. This is not a dispelling spell.

"However," she paused, "Maybe you need to summon some of my sisters to help."

"Kayle, do you think if Singed participates in the research work, will it have some positive effect?" Aiden thought that in the background of the League of Legends, the alchemist Singed is famous for plague and shimmer. After all he turned Vander into Warwick, who became a werewolf, he is probably the top expert in this field.

"I don't know, but I don't like this lunatic," Kayle shook her head.

Aiden muttered, "It seems that at this time, I can only ask the omniscient and almighty old man Zilean."

At this time, a guard came in to report: "Commander Dathrohan, that female hero Vayne is back, just outside the city, asking us to open the door."

Dathrohan and Uther looked at Aiden, who clapped his hands and said happily, "It seems that the expert in identifying traitors has arrived!"

After receiving instructions, the city defense force directly let Vayne ride a gryphon into Stratholme from the sky. The heroic Vayne's cloak fluttered in the wind behind her. She raised her head, looked at Commander Aiden, and showed a confident smile: "Summoner, I have killed that Kel'Thuzad!"

Aiden was shocked and said, "Really? Have you confirmed it?"

"An arrow through the throat."

"Such a method may not completely kill him," Aiden thought that Kel'Thuzad's body, which had been transformed by the Lich King, was actually no longer a flesh-and-blood body. Piercing the throat, which is absolutely fatal to ordinary people, is not enough to kill him. Crushing his head may be able to destroy his body.

After listening to his explanation, Vayne frowned and immediately said, "Then I will go and kill him again!"

"Don't, don't, there is something more important now!" Aiden quickly grabbed him, wiped his sweat, and sighed in his heart that Vayne was really efficient…
