Logan, who had once wielded Mewtwo's immense psychic power, knew better than anyone just how dangerous Psychic-types could be. Their abilities were subtle and invisible, and even the smallest lapse in attention could lead to fatal consequences.
"Do you need my help?"
"Not yet. If I rely on you for everything, then what's the point of me struggling so hard… But be ready, Mewtwo. We never know what might happen next."
He communicated with Mewtwo in the sea of his mind, though the faint ripple of psychic energy didn't go unnoticed. Sabrina's amethyst crystal-like eyes immediately locked onto him, sensing that subtle shift.
Logan didn't back down. His eyes glimmered with the same purplish hue as he met her gaze directly. But unlike her, Logan wasn't a born psychic. His powers came entirely from Mewtwo—he was the receiver, not the source.
Sabrina, on the other hand, was a true psychic. Her power was interwoven with her partner Pokémon, Alakazam. Their minds were in perfect sync. Alakazam amplified her strength, and she, in turn, offered human intelligence and precision. Together, their psychic abilities were seamless—flawless, even. Sabrina, the Gym Leader of Saffron City, was truly one of a kind in the world.
Logan remembered reading a tabloid once that mentioned another natural-born psychic in faraway Unova. But that person was reportedly unstable and caused more disasters than control—nothing compared to Sabrina's calculated precision.
"You… Sabrina of the Saffron Gym… you're with Team Rocket?!" Misty's voice trembled with restrained rage. Her clenched fists and grit teeth showed how personal this felt for her.
Logan glanced at her in surprise, not understanding the depth of her hatred for Team Rocket. Something about the way she seethed with anger—this wasn't just the usual righteousness of a Gym Leader.
But Sabrina ignored Misty entirely. Her focus never wavered from Logan. A faint trace of surprise flickered in her usually expressionless eyes, though Logan had no idea what caused it.
He should've felt flattered—being stared at by such a cold, beautiful woman—but Logan felt nothing but dread. Her icy gaze chilled him to the bone. His injuries throbbed in warning: this woman wasn't here to seduce—she was here to kill.
The silent disregard only made Misty more furious. Maybe it was jealousy… Maybe it was the woman's cold demeanor… or maybe it was the fact that Sabrina's mature curves made Misty feel painfully inadequate. Still, Misty wasn't one to let emotion cloud her judgment for long. She drew in a deep breath and demanded, "How did you know we were hiding up there?"
This time, Sabrina deigned to speak. "…Your little scout was exposed the moment it entered. I foresaw your arrival."
Her voice was as exquisite as her appearance—delicate, lilting—but utterly devoid of warmth. Each word was like a snowflake cutting through the air.
"Foresee… the future?!" Misty gasped, shocked.
She wasn't talking about a Pokémon move. She meant actual foresight.
"It's not true future sight," Logan said calmly. "It's more like heightened awareness—like a sixth sense. Her psychic power gives her advanced perception of danger. She can anticipate events that others can't even sense… Not true precognition, but something damn close."
Since borrowing Mewtwo's power, Logan had found his own affinity for psychic abilities growing. Even he had a slight sense of danger now—but nothing like the level Sabrina wielded.
"…I always knew Sabrina was a natural psychic, but I never realized she could manipulate her powers like this…" Misty muttered, clearly shaken. "I'm sorry, Logan. I dragged you into this. My mistake put you in danger."
"Hey now, if apologies worked, we wouldn't need police," Logan replied with a smirk. "Besides, that didn't sound sincere at all… But forget that. Let's focus on surviving first. I doubt this is the worst of it. But if it's just her, we still have a chance. You're a Gym Leader too, Misty. What's to be afraid of?"
…Although she's clearly outclassing you in every way, Logan thought silently.
Misty blushed with a mix of irritation and pride, but Logan's words steeled her nerves. She was no stranger to hardship. No way would she cower before anyone—not even Sabrina.
"Finished talking?" Sabrina's voice rang out again, low and ethereal.
Her glowing eyes, that icy-cold beauty, her floating silhouette above them—she looked every bit a queen. Regal, cruel, and untouchable.
"…I know why you hate Team Rocket so much, Misty of Cerulean Gym. It's because of it, isn't it?"
With that, Sabrina tossed out a Poké Ball. From it emerged a monstrous, roaring Gyarados.
The massive beast thrashed its serpentine body madly, shrieking in rage. Its wild eyes showed no recognition—only pure, uncontrollable fury. It slammed into the cavern walls, shattering stalactites, its body like a berserk demon loosed from hell.
Even for a Gyarados, known for their temper, this one was far beyond normal. Its eyes were void—glazed over. It had been turned into a mindless engine of destruction.
"My Gyarados… what have you done to it?!" Misty's voice cracked. She had taken a hopeful step forward at first, but now she was frozen in horror. Tears welled in her eyes. "You monsters…!"
"Biological experimentation isn't my department," Sabrina replied coldly, eyes still closed. "It was likely injected with something as part of a trial. I don't know what."
Her indifference was maddening—calm words poured gasoline on an open flame.
"SABRINA!!!!"
Misty screamed. Her rage exploded.
Starmie, sensing its trainer's fury, unleashed a powerful Hydro Cannon. The compressed jet of water roared forward like an artillery shell, slamming into Sabrina—except… it didn't.
Her body exploded into a mist of light.
An illusion.
The real Sabrina had never been there.
The cave ceiling was left with a massive crater, but Misty had been duped—played like a violin. Her rationality, burned away in her emotional outburst, had made her an easy target.
From beside her, Logan watched with clenched fists. His conclusion was simple:
The more beautiful the woman, the more dangerous she is.
