"One down. That makes the other one a lot easier."
Son Goku pulled his hand back and swept his gaze over the broken arena.
He was looking for Caulifla.
Vincent Fox frowned slightly as he watched Kale fall out of bounds. In his memory, Kale and Caulifla should have used Potara Earrings to fuse. After that they unlocked a second stage and even forced Goku to bring out the second phase of Ultra Instinct.
"Found her."
Goku spotted Caulifla sprawled on the floor and smiled.
"Sorry, Cauli. I'll have to toss you out of the ring."
"That depends on whether you can."
Caulifla forced herself up, a confident smile spreading across her face.
At the same time she reached to her left ear, took off the earring and put it on the other side.
"Potara Earrings?!"
Goku recognized it at a glance.
He had used those same earrings more than once to fuse with Vegeta.
Right in front of his shocked eyes, Caulifla's figure turned into a green light and shot toward the falling Kale.
At the same time, under the edge of the arena, another green beam blasted up from the void.
"Not good."
Vincent's expression hardened. He saw the two beams colliding right next to him, the two girls about to merge.
Boom.
He didn't hesitate. Flames gathered in his right palm and he hurled a blazing fireball at them.
But for the Potara, any outside interference was pointless.
Out of the burning flames a slender figure slowly took shape.
Whoosh.
She pierced through the fire, flashed past Vincent and flew straight at Goku.
"What?!"
Goku only saw a blur. When he turned his head there was already a familiar yet brand new figure behind him.
"I am the fusion of Kale and Caulifla. Call me Kefla."
The Potara on her ear shone. That was the thing that made the fusion possible.
"Cheating. That is straight up cheating."
Beerus exploded from the stands.
He threw his arms up in protest and at the same time finally understood. So this was why Champa had been so confident.
Up on the main throne, the two Zeno-samas stared with sparkling eyes, like kids watching the best scene in a cartoon.
"What is that? Fusion? So cool."
"Yeah. Fusion is so cool."
"Fusion. Fusion. Fusion."
The Grand Priest listened to them and turned, smiling as he addressed the gods.
"So. Using the Potara Earrings to fuse does not count as cheating. From now on all contestants may use Potara to fuse."
"Take your earrings off. Now."
Beerus grabbed the Supreme Kai of Universe 7, yanked the earring right off his ear and clenched it in his fist.
"We just need a chance to send it over…"
He stared hard at the battlefield.
After introducing herself, Kefla struck without mercy.
She was too fast.
Goku only felt his vision blur and then a heavy force struck his abdomen, sending him flying.
"Too weak."
Kefla mocked, then turned to look at Vincent in the distance.
"You're next."
Swish.
Her body flickered and she appeared in front of him.
The pressure of a real enemy was right in his face, so Vincent cranked himself to max in an instant.
Three Color Haki.
Byakugan.
Flame Form.
All at once.
This was Vincent's strongest configuration.
"Pointless."
Kefla sneered. Her fist was already there.
"So fast."
Even the Byakugan didn't slow her motion by much.
As for Observation Haki, the moment Vincent heard the sound her punch had already landed.
Way faster than sound.
He had no choice but to cross his flaming arms and block.
Boom.
Kefla's punch hit his arms and triggered an explosion.
Fire pillars shot up and both of them were swallowed by flames.
A second later Vincent burst out of the fire and bolted away.
Kefla's power was too much. In that short exchange she had thrown several more punches. Vincent could only defend. If he kept getting forced back like this there would be no chance to win.
He had to break the rhythm first.
But Kefla was not about to let him leave.
She moved even faster and the instant she broke out of the flames she was back at his side.
"Where do you think you're going?"
She looked at Vincent with open ridicule.
Just then Goku lit up the Twentyfold Kaioken again and tore across the field.
"Kamehameha!"
The blue beam screamed over. Kefla was caught off guard.
Vincent used the chance to widen the gap again.
"Haah!"
Kefla didn't like being pinned down. She chose to power up.
Her aura blasted out and erased the Kamehameha. Then several green energy spheres appeared in her hands and she threw them at Goku.
"Try these."
Whoosh whoosh whoosh.
Goku saw the energy balls rush at him and started hurling Ki Blasts and energy discs to meet them.
Boom boom boom.
Explosions overlapped, sweeping the whole arena.
Goku didn't dare to underestimate her. He charged another Kamehameha and swept it toward where Kefla had been.
"Haaaaaa."
The ground split open, the arena was chewed full of holes.
"If nothing went wrong, that should have finished it."
Beerus stared at the fight, a nervous fist clenched.
Everyone in Universe 7 looked just as worried.
Inside the blast, Kefla pushed against Goku's Kamehameha. Her whole body was scorched and covered in wounds.
"Haaaaa!"
Her aura shot to the sky.
Backed into a corner, Kefla powered up again.
Second Stage.
Terrifying green lightning shredded what was left of the arena around her.
In almost the same instant she flashed behind Goku.
Without hesitation she kicked him square in the neck.
Thud.
Goku was sent flying. The blue aura around him shattered and he fell back to his base form.
"Goku lost?"
On the stands, Krillin stared blankly.
Goku lay on the ground and did not move.
"That's it?"
Kefla sneered and walked toward the fallen Saiyan.
"If you can't stand up, I'll put you out now."
A bright green ball appeared in her palm and she slowly tossed it forward.
If that hit, Goku really would be out of the tournament. After that anyone could walk over and knock him out of bounds.
Right then, a clean, pure ki erupted into the sky.
