Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Complicated Relationship

For the first time, Matthias shed tears when he learned the truth about his wife's disappearance. His right hand repeatedly hit his chest as he stared at the document file regarding the accident his wife had two years ago. He deeply regretted holding a grudge against his wife even though she had gone through various obstacles in her life.

"I shouldn't have scolded her earlier. I should have treated her better earlier."

The young man widened his eyes. "Wait a minute! Have you met Victoria? Didn't you tell me yesterday that you only wanted to send her the marriage certificate?"

"Yes, I originally intended to lure her. But I didn't expect to meet her last night at the hotel." Matthias clenched both of his fists tightly. "But, why has everyone been hiding Victoria all this time? Even her family never told me?"

"Have you forgotten what happened between your family and Victoria's family all this time?"

"Yes, even now Victoria's family is still asking for funds from my family. Actually I'm confused, what has Victoria's family been doing all this time to keep asking for financial assistance."

"But, do you really want to persuade her to come back to you? It seems like it would be hard to see you as if you were rejected now."

"Anyway, I will use any means to make her obey my orders. I don't want her to be involved in danger again. The fatal accident she experienced at that time was not an ordinary accident."

On the other hand, Victoria was still locked up in her residence with her best friend. Honestly, she was confused about what to do now. Should she cancel her engagement with Ansel or not. Even though she really loved him, just because of this one strange document, she couldn't marry the man she loved.

Jennifer could only surrender as she stared at her friend who was anxious because of this complicated problem. She held her friend's hand tightly.

"Victoria, should you just go back to Matthias?"

"What? You want me to be that bastard's wife?"

"Because you two have been destined to be together for a long time. But, you're the one with amnesia. Maybe if you two spend more time together, I'm sure that as time goes by, you two will truly fall in love."

"Then, what about Ansel? I promised him that I was serious about marrying him?"

Jennifer's lips were tightly closed. Actually, she was also confused about what kind of scenario to design for her best friend. Talking was very easy, but if she was told to act, she was afraid that Ansel would be shocked and hurt to hear it.

"You had to hurt Ansel a little bit by force. You shouldn't have been with Ansel from the start. But after that incident, only Ansel cared about you, while your ex-boyfriend cheated on you."

"What should I do if I could meet Matthias again? My life would definitely not be happy. He would definitely continue to torture me." Her right hand held her friend's two hands. "I heard that you also just came back from abroad a few months ago. Surely you also don't know what really happened to me two years ago."

Jennifer nodded. "I even know this happy news because we used to communicate through chat. But, what I know is that your relationship with Matthias was very harmonious back then. I really support you getting married."

"Don't expect me to marry him because I really love him! Anyway, I have to use whatever means possible to make Matthias really give up chasing me."

This time Victoria took the initiative to meet Matthias in person. She knew Matthias's cell phone number because Matthias had given her his business card before they parted ways at the hotel. Victoria invited Matthias to meet at a tower that only they visited. This tower is usually crowded with visitors, but for some reason, tonight, no one visited. Even though this place is known as a suitable place for couples to date.

Victoria stared blankly at the twinkling cityscape in the darkness. She was actually very nervous about meeting Matthias again, even though she had previously been confident that she didn't want to meet him again. Now she, who looked like a lowly woman, wanted to meet the perfectionist CEO.

"It seems like you can't stand not seeing me even for a day."

Victoria immediately turned around, welcoming the handsome CEO with a sarcastic smile. "Don't misunderstand. My purpose in wanting to meet you now is to clarify our true relationship."

"Isn't it obvious? We've been married for two years. Why do you still want to find out?"

"Is it true that you didn't manipulate the marriage certificate?"

Matthias rolled his eyes. "Why would I do something stupid and waste my time! Besides, it's already been proven by the photo of the two of us."

"Then, I have to borrow your phone now. I wonder if you still have our photos on your phone or not."

Matthias took his phone, then put it back in his jacket pocket. "I don't want to give it to you."

"Why? Was it true that our relationship in the past was not harmonious? You proposed to me under duress because it was to benefit our families, right?"

"It's not because of that. Actually, I keep a lot of photos of us from the past."

Victoria laughed lightly, folding her arms. "What a coward!"

"I'm not a coward! But, rather than approaching you just because we've been married for two years, I'd rather open a new page with you."

"Then you should let me go now! I already have a dream that I want to achieve! I am so sick of seeing you!"

"Is that true? Did you seriously say that just now?"

Victoria kept shaking her head while looking down. "I really don't want to marry you. Because of that annoying marriage certificate, now I'm really trapped in a marriage that I don't want."

"But, I really want to marry you." His eyes were fixed on the diamond ring hanging on his wife's neck. His eyes started to fill with tears, not because he was sad, but he was very happy. Indicating that his wife still didn't want to let him go even though she now had amnesia.

"How about we just have a contract marriage?"
