Chapter 37 - Military Base

The Great Oni

Volume (1) Benoni Chapter (37)

Because the wound Li Fan had dealt was not very severe, Ta Mantaw regained consciousness after only a few minutes.

After the brief haze had passed, he remembered everything that had just happened.

"I actually lost to someone at the Emperor rank," Ta Mantaw muttered. He sat up and looked around.

He was still in the spot where he had blacked out, and the surroundings were filled with ruins.

The young man who had defeated him was wearing a new black short-sleeved T-shirt, sitting on a chair and using his phone.

Beside him, the former leaders of Ta Mantaw's demon gang were standing respectfully.

"Ah, you're awake. Good. I have a question: where is your organization's headquarters?" Li Fan asked with a smile when he saw Ta Mantaw wake.

"Our headquarters? What do you want with it?" Ta Mantaw, now ragged, stood straight and replied.

Aside from the pain at the spot Li Fan had struck, Ta Mantaw had no major injuries and was still fine.

"Hmm, I just want some money," Li Fan said, smiling without the slightest change in tone.

"Ah… all right then, I can guide you," Ta Mantaw said, dusting himself off.

Their headquarters had one person at the Martial Emperor rank and about three at the Martial Empire rank.

Moreover, that Martial Emperor had excessively used Black-Rose medicine, making his physical overall ability three times greater than that of a normal Emperor.

Therefore, they probably would not bother trying to hide their headquarters from this young man any longer.

If that young man walked into their headquarters alone, it would surely become a great spectacle.

Should they worry that Li Fan's strength exceeded the Martial Emperor rank?

In both his conscious and subconscious mind, Ta Mantaw had not accepted that such a thing was possible.

Although the total cultivation stages went beyond the Martial Emperor level, in the entire cultivation world the Martial Emperor rank was still regarded as the absolute peak.

Even the leaders and elders of all six great families, four clans, five major sects, and eight academies had only reached the Martial Emperor rank.

In this world, even the mightiest royal family possessed only nine Martial Emperors, and there was no rank above Martial Emperor called Martial God-King.

Thus, when he heard the young man say he would go with him to their organization, Ta Mantaw accepted without much resistance.

"I can guide you."

"But there is one thing," Ta Mantaw said firmly.

Li Fan raised an eyebrow.

"Say it."

With a serious face, Ta Mantaw spoke.

"First, give me a set of clothes."

Li Fan: "…"

Although Ta Mantaw himself drove the car, they had to leave the city and drive for about nine hours.

Therefore, it was now around six in the evening.

Because he did not know the enemy's exact strength, Li Fan had not brought A his half brother along.

After being bored for the full nine hours, he began chatting with Ta Mantaw.

By now, they could not be called close friends, yet it could be said they had at least become acquaintances.

While driving on the highway, Ta Mantaw suddenly changed course and headed into a dusty forest.

"damn, are we almost there?" Li Fan said impatiently.

"Yes, almost—just another half hour," Ta Mantaw assured him and kept driving.

About forty minutes later, a large city wall suddenly appeared in their view.

Since it rose out of nowhere, Li Fan was a bit amazed, but as someone who had read many stories he could easily guess it was a concealed formation.

The city wall was only about ten meters high, and many soldiers were patrolling with guns.

At a glance there were roughly two hundred soldiers, and around fifty were gathered at the single city gate.

Ta Mantaw drove up and stopped near the gate.

The soldiers aimed their guns at the car, ready, and one soldier approached.

Ta Mantaw rolled down the window and showed his face.

"Major," the soldier saluted and granted them entry.

"Oh, looks like you hold a high rank here— they don't even ask anything when you bring a stranger," Li Fan smiled and said.

"That's right. There are about ten thousand people here, but only around ten outrank me," Ta Mantaw said proudly.

"All right. I'll personally take you to the leader—no need for you to look for him," he continued.

"You're a pretty decent guy, haha," Li Fan replied, eyeing Ta Mantaw strangely.

This fellow had been helping him a great deal.

Ta Mantaw stepped out of the car.

"Let's go. From here we have to walk—gkh—"

Li Fan did not let Ta Mantaw finish; he plunged his fingertips into Ta Mantaw's heart and killed him.

The Demon Energy Master activated automatically, absorbing Ta Mantaw's power.

"Hmph. If you hadn't tried to kill me, I wouldn't have done the same," Li Fan muttered, wiping the blood from his hands and tossing Ta Mantaw's nearly desiccated corpse aside.

The nearby soldiers, startled, immediately opened fire on Li Fan.

"Bang! Bang! Bang!"

Bullets powerful enough to kill even a Martial Lord ripped through the air at high velocity, rushing toward Li Fan.

"Whoosh—" the bullets halted one meter before him, unable to advance.

"He's a high-level cultivator—run!" one soldier shouted.

At that instant the bullets reversed course, pierced through the soldiers' legs and arms, and left them unable to continue the attack.

"Da… da… da…" Li Fan hummed, waiting for more enemies to arrive.
