Chapter 301 - Chapter 302: Dual Identity

Xun Zhesheng and Gan Botao understood that having been sent onto this battlefield, they had no other choice. Although they weren't clear on what the Saintess was truly planning, for them, the path was simple: if they could defeat Lin Yun, this entire situation could be resolved.

Lin Yun, for his part, was well aware of this. However, he was in no hurry to finish these two off. If he killed them now, it would allow the sacrificial formation to rapidly take shape, which was not an outcome he wished to see.

So, the moment Lin Yun made his move, the result was already predetermined. He revealed only a fraction of his true strength, yet it was more than enough to completely suppress both Xun Zhesheng and Gan Botao.

"You two can waste as much time here with me as you like; it will be futile," Lin Yun said. "With your meager abilities, you can do nothing to me. If I were you, I would have given up by now."

Lin Yun looked at the two men, truly unable to understand. They had already reached this point, yet they still showed no signs of giving up. Even if their brains weren't working properly, they should have realized by now that this was all connected to the Saintess.

In fact, they understood perfectly. Both Gan Botao and Xun Zhesheng knew it was highly likely they had been pushed out here to die. But even so, what could they do? As elders of the Crimson Ghost Sect, they had long been prepared for this. While they didn't wish to die just like this, it was the sect's command, and they had no way to resist.

Besides, it wasn't a situation of certain death just yet. If they could defeat Lin Yun, they could seize a chance at survival from this battle. Even if they failed in the end, they would at least die with the noble reputation of heroes.

Seeing their utterly unrepentant expressions, Lin Yun just shook his head with a helpless sigh. He summoned his sword box, placing one hand lightly upon it.

The moment the box opened, several swords flew out from within. The situation was urgent; Lin Yun couldn't afford to waste time here. These two had to be dealt with quickly. But for him, there were many ways to defeat them. Lin Yun didn't plan on killing them. Perhaps he could get some useful information from them later. It was crucial to make use of them.

When the two elders saw the multiple flying swords Lin Yun had summoned, their expressions turned grim.

"Is this the kind of sword cultivator we know?"

Over so many years, numerous examples had created a rigid stereotype of sword cultivators. They naturally refused to believe that the man before them was a sword cultivator in the true sense. Gan Botao even felt that he must have misjudged something somewhere.

Xun Zhesheng just shook his head. "I can't be sure if this boy is what we think he is, either. But now, we truly have no other options."

His eyes burned as he stared at Lin Yun. Even though he was filled with doubt about the young man's state, he quickly made his decision. The two of them then took the initiative and charged toward Lin Yun; they wouldn't wait for him to strike first.

Lin Yun knew that these two were trying to seize an opportunity. For them, this battle had been strange from the very beginning. The best way to solve the problem now was to use their own advantage to suppress him. However, the power Lin Yun had displayed earlier was already enough to make them deeply worried. They knew that with their own abilities, they were no match for him. Their best bet was to attack now and try to overwhelm this young man.

Lin Yun, however, was well aware of their every thought and felt no concern.

Just then, he summoned Xiao Bai.

A moment ago, the two elders had been brimming with confidence. But the instant they saw Xiao Bai, their expressions turned grave. Who would have thought that as a sword cultivator, Lin Yun would also have his own spirit pet? And a powerful one at that.

"How is that possible? Isn't this boy a sword cultivator? How does he also know the techniques of the Beast Taming Sect?"

Xun Zhesheng and Gan Botao were once again shocked. They had seen many powerful experts from years past, but someone as unconventional as Lin Yun was a true rarity. Every new move he made seemed utterly unbelievable in their eyes. Even though they had been mentally prepared, the current situation still left them speechless.

Lin Yun couldn't be bothered to explain anything to them. He simply focused his mind and went all out. He, too, wanted to end this battle quickly so he could find out what was inside that tomb. But he couldn't kill these two, otherwise he would be fulfilling the Saintess's plot to sacrifice them.

This task might be difficult for others, but for Lin Yun, it was not.

With Xiao Bai's control and Lin Yun's own understanding of the battle, the two elders were immediately beset with a massive headache. Each of Lin Yun's swords executed a completely different sword style, yet they were all able to coordinate with one another. This interwoven net of slaughter was extremely difficult for the two of them to handle.

Even the magic treasures that Gan Botao and Xun Zhesheng deployed didn't last long before they were instantly destroyed by his formless sword Qi. After losing their precious treasures, they were naturally furious, but there was nothing they could do. Lin Yun's ability was on full display. No matter how much more time they were given, the result would be the same.

From a distance, Fang Yu'er watched the battle, falling into a long silence. Before, she had thought that choosing Lin Yun might have been a mistake. After all, he, too, had been dragged into this great disaster. No matter how strong he was, he was ultimately facing the formidable Crimson Ghost Sect.

But she had never expected so many unforeseen changes to occur in this battle. A seemingly ordinary young man was able to hold his own against the Crimson Ghost Sect, and even overwhelm them in many aspects. This made Fang Yu'er begin to wonder: was there still a glimmer of hope for her?

On the battlefield, Xun Zhesheng and Gan Botao were under immense pressure. They had a sliver of confidence before, but when their magic treasures were destroyed, they suffered from the backlash. Although it wasn't enough to defeat them instantly, it had a significant impact on their ability to fight a prolonged battle.

And now, with the addition of Xiao Bai, the situation became even more severe. Xiao Bai's immense strength, coupled with its bizarre movement techniques, was the perfect counter to Xun Zhesheng and Gan Botao.

The two of them were beaten so badly they could only hug their heads and scurry away like mice.
