Three days passed quickly, slipping by almost before anyone noticed.
During those three days, Su Li barely practiced, choosing instead to spend each day at the dojo, where he personally guided the members of the secret mobile unit. Thanks to his careful instruction, the high-ranking personnel advanced rapidly, with their respect and admiration for him growing stronger by the day.
Sui-Feng, in particular, was always the first to arrive, and from dawn to dusk, she clung to the scroll as if her life depended on it—eating while watching it, showering with it placed carefully on the counter, and even sleeping while hugging it tightly. The scroll had practically become an extension of her body, and unsurprisingly, her learning speed surpassed everyone else's by a wide margin.
This dedication made Su Li very pleased, and when he offered her special praise, she blushed furiously and ran off, leaving Su Li utterly confused by her reaction.
The three days flew by in the blink of an eye, and now, it was finally time to leave for the Human World.
Su Li, brimming with energy and with his spirit thoroughly refreshed, could barely contain his excitement at the thought of entering the city—bars, karaoke, fashionable babes, the vibrant chaos of Kabukicho—all of it swirling in his mind until he practically felt himself floating with anticipation. Staying in Soul Society even one more second felt unbearable, like he would suffocate from how old-fashioned and rigid everything was.
As he walked toward the meeting point, Su Li practically glowed with enthusiasm, and when passersby noticed the haori draped over his shoulders, they saluted with respect, receiving in return a bright smile that left everyone stunned and whispering to themselves in amazement, wondering what had happened to Captain Su Li to make him look so happy.
Soon, he reached the designated square, and as he looked at the familiar scene before him, Su Li grew nostalgic. The last time he stood here, he had been a mere intern Shinigami, nervously preparing for a trial mission in the Human World, and now, just one month later, he had returned as a team leader.
Youth truly is fleeting, and the transformation from intern vice-captain to actual captain in such a short time felt like a surreal twist of fate.
Before Su Li could sink further into that sentimental mood, a familiar voice interrupted his thoughts.
"Aha! Captain Su Li, we meet again!"
Turning toward the voice, he saw Matsumoto Rangiku smiling radiantly.
"Miss Rangiku, what a coincidence. Long time no see," Su Li greeted her with a grin, though he was already beginning to suspect this was no coincidence.
"Heehee, this isn't coincidence—it's fate~," Rangiku chuckled, her smile playful and teasing.
Su Li froze for a second before realizing what she meant—Matsumoto Rangiku had been assigned as his vice-captain for this mission. He couldn't help but laugh softly at the thought, as this really did seem like fate.
Last time, she was the one leading the mission, and now, she was assisting him, a full reversal of roles.
"Then, I'll be counting on you," Su Li said with a smile.
"Captain Su Li, I'll be in your care too," Rangiku replied with a wink as they made their way together toward the gathering area.
Looking ahead at the dozen tall gates and the bustling crowd of Shinigami, Su Li felt a little awestruck. In front of the crossing gates, waves of Shinigami moved steadily, most of them clearly from the 13th Division, as indicated by their armbands, which made perfect sense given that purification work in the Human World was their constant responsibility.
Mixed among the crowd were young, fresh-faced Shinigami standing nervously in front of the gates—new recruits heading to the Human World for the very first time.
With internships spread across several different locations, Su Li didn't hesitate in choosing Karakura Town, seeing no need to consider alternatives, since other locations didn't interest him in the slightest.
Karakura had already been assigned to someone at vice-captain level—Matsumoto Rangiku—so no wonder she had called it fate, since this marked their second time being paired up for the same place.
As Su Li and Rangiku approached their team, Su Li, seeing the group of new recruits with faces full of youthful excitement, couldn't help feeling a little strange; not long ago, he had stood among them, yet now, he was their captain—a truly unpredictable turn of events.
The new recruits, upon spotting their leader, were visibly stunned.
"Wow!! Is Captain Su Li leading us? This is amazing!"
"I didn't think it'd be him!! Now I feel completely safe!!"
"The youngest and strongest captain in history taking us on our internship?! I'm not nervous at all now!"
"Tsk! Can that overly affectionate woman keep her hands off Captain Su Li?! Has she never heard of personal space?!"
The group buzzed with excitement, their eyes brimming with admiration as they stared at Su Li.
In just three days, Su Li had defeated Zaraki Kenpachi and ascended to the role of Second Division captain, and the news had spread like wildfire throughout Soul Society.
Now, everyone knew of the youngest and most terrifyingly talented captain to ever rise in its history, with his fame reaching unprecedented heights.
At every dinner table, in every shadowed alley, Su Li's name was mentioned with awe, his stories told with a mixture of respect and fan-like enthusiasm.
Even underground publishers jumped at the opportunity, printing fan-novels centered around Su Li that sold like hotcakes across Rukongai.
As for those who had once been his classmates, they no longer remembered that Su Li had once been at the bottom of the class. Now, they insisted he had merely pretended to be weak, hiding his genius behind humility, with some even claiming they had "seen through him" all along.
Su Li was speechless but found himself amused, understanding all too well how people think—when someone is weak, others highlight every flaw, but when that same person becomes strong, the world rushes to rewrite the past, explaining away old shortcomings with the narrative of hidden brilliance. That, after all, was simply human nature.
Before long, it was time to depart. Traditionally, the instructor would deliver a short motivational speech before departure, but Su Li had no patience for ceremony or formality, his thoughts already lost in the rhythm of the modern world.
He couldn't wait another second.
So, without any pomp or delay, Su Li raised his voice and shouted with unrestrained excitement:
"Let's go to the Human World!
Target—Karakura Town!"
