Chapter 275 - Chapter 275: Sundae's Garchomp

As Snorlax charged with devastating momentum, the entire battlefield trembled violently beneath its massive weight. The ground cracked and shifted with each thunderous footfall, producing continuous seismic vibrations that echoed across the arena. Its raw power proved so overwhelming that even the front rows of audience seating shook noticeably, every spectator clearly feeling Snorlax's relentless advance reverberating through their bodies.

"What an absolutely heavyweight charge!" Brock exclaimed emotionally, instinctively bracing himself against the tremors to avoid toppling from his seat.

"Sundae's Nidoqueen won't survive this collision," Gary observed with characteristic calm certainty.

"After all, it's Red's Snorlax," Leaf agreed matter-of-factly.

"Nidoqueen, quickly use Superpower!" Sundae commanded desperately, her voice betraying obvious panic at the approaching juggernaut.

Because trainer Sundae had already lost her composure, Nidoqueen found itself equally compromised. The Poison-type could barely raise defensive positioning, its muscles tensing as it prepared for the inevitable collision with Snorlax's overwhelming assault.

Nidoqueen released a final defiant roar, every fiber of its body contracting to meet the incoming charge head-on.

The collision detonated across the battlefield like an explosion. The concussive force generated violent shockwaves that rippled outward with such intensity that the nearby referee instinctively retreated several paces, fearing the raw energy might endanger his physical safety.

After the brutal contact, Nidoqueen's entire body rocketed backward through the air before crashing with devastating impact against the distant ground. The creature collapsed completely, its eyes rolling back as consciousness fled entirely.

"Nidoqueen is unable to battle!" the referee announced, waving both flags decisively.

"You performed admirably, Nidoqueen," Sundae said helplessly, withdrawing her Poké Ball to recall the unconscious Pokémon. She studied her two remaining Poké Balls with visible contemplation, calculating which remaining Pokémon possessed the best chance against Red's unstoppable Snorlax.

Gigalith would struggle equally against that monster. My starter Pokémon remains my best option...

"I'm counting on you, Garchomp!"

With steely determination burning in her eyes, Sundae hurled her premier ball with force, unleashing her trusted starter Pokémon onto the battlefield.

White light materialized, revealing Garchomp—a magnificent creature with a distinctive shark-like appearance. Its body featured a deep blue coloration with two prominent horns protruding from its head, sharp teeth filling its mouth, and three visible gill slits carved into each side of its neck. The creature's claws gleamed white against its skin, each limb and thigh bearing two dangerous bone spikes that appeared lethal.

"That Gible from before has matured considerably," Red observed with calm recognition.

"Contestant Sundae has sent out an extraordinary Pokémon, completely unfamiliar to this commentator's comprehensive theoretical knowledge! I must apologize for such ignorance!" the announcer declared somewhat embarrassedly, clearly unprepared for this particular Pokémon's appearance.

After all, the announcer's previous experience covered primarily Kanto and Johto League tournaments.

"Professor, what species is that?" Ash asked, instinctively turning toward Professor Oak beside him.

"Garchomp is a pseudo-legendary Pokémon originating from the Sinnoh region, holding equivalent status to our Kanto region's Dragonite," Professor Oak explained formally to the assembled group. "Its dual typing combines Dragon and Ground characteristics. Due to apparent aspiration for aerial mobility, Garchomp's final evolutionary form has mastered genuine flying capabilities despite its terrestrial nature."

"I see!" Ash nodded enthusiastically, although his expression suggested an incomplete understanding of the technical explanation.

"You didn't even listen properly," Gary complained with resignation.

"Gible... Garchomp," Leaf murmured thoughtfully, processing the evolution progression.

Garchomp, immediately materializing above the battlefield, deliberately showed off its aerial prowess by circling directly above Snorlax. The Dragon-type gazed downward at the grounded Normal-type, its expression radiating obvious provocation and challenge.

"Its temperament remains insufficiently mature," Red remarked with mild disapproval.

The docile Snorlax, however, completely disregarded Garchomp's deliberate taunting. Instead, the creature's thoughts centered on something far more important—what delicious food might Red provide as a reward following this victory? This pleasant anticipation caused Snorlax to drool slightly while releasing satisfied chuckles.

"Garchomp, use Dragon Breath!"

While Snorlax remained momentarily distracted, Sundae seized the opportunity, commanding a tactical sneak attack designed to systematically drain the Normal-type's stamina reserves.

Garchomp, hovering above, instantly parted its mouth and released brilliant blue dragon breath spiraling downward toward Snorlax with destructive intent.

Snorlax, recognizing the incoming threat, responded with obvious irritation by summoning Ice Punch. The creature's fist, radiating frigid energy, collided directly with the Dragon Breath, utterly obliterating its power within moments.

"Garchomp, follow through with Outrage!" Sundae pressed relentlessly, refusing to grant Snorlax any counterattack opportunity.

Garchomp instantly unleashed terrifying, murderous intent, attempting to psychologically intimidate Snorlax's fighting spirit. Yet the creature discovered that such psychological warfare proved completely ineffective against Red's unwavering Pokémon.

Above, devastating blue dragon energy enveloped Garchomp's entire form, transforming the creature into pure, destructive power incarnate. Garchomp, now wreathed in ethereal dragon-form energy, flapped its wings and dove toward Snorlax below with breathtaking velocity. The momentum appeared so impressive that audience members couldn't suppress their amazement—few had anticipated that Sundae possessed such a formidable ace-level Pokémon hidden within her reserves.

"Heavy Slam," Red commanded calmly, completely composed despite the approaching onslaught.

Snorlax immediately deployed its massive body, ramming against the descending Garchomp with concentrated force. The collision produced violent, concussive sounds that reverberated throughout the arena.

Yet what countless spectators anticipated never materialized. Instead, an embarrassing scene unfolded before their eyes.

The previously majestic Garchomp, knocked backward by Snorlax's Heavy Slam, stumbled awkwardly across the ground after barely contesting the exchange. The Dragon-type had entirely lost its previous arrogance and commanding presence.

"For Garchomp's small frame to withstand my Snorlax is too much of a stretch," Red said leisurely, his observation cutting directly to the physical reality of their matchup.

This cannot be happening. Why can't I achieve victory against this creature?! Garchomp thought frantically, internal frustration mounting as it confronted repeated failure.

Throughout past battle experiences, Garchomp had only suffered defeat at the hands of a select few Pokémon. Red's creatures composed two of them—practically nightmarish adversaries in Garchomp's combat memory.

Garchomp's provocative display regarding Snorlax's inability to fly actually stemmed from deep psychological trauma inflicted by Red's formidable Pidgeot during Garchomp's weaker developmental stages. In desperation born from repeated failure, Garchomp had come to regard Red as its natural enemy—every Pokémon Red deployed seemed specifically designed to thoroughly dismantle its pride.

"Snorlax, use Ice Beam," Red commanded next.

Snorlax slowly opened its cavernous mouth, releasing a penetrating Ice Beam toward Garchomp below. Witnessing the incoming attack, Garchomp frantically flapped its wings, desperately dodging to avoid the quadruple super-effective damage Ice Beam would inflict.

"Keep sweeping across," Red instructed without hesitation.

Snorlax rotated deliberately, continuing its Ice Beam barrage with relentless precision, denying Garchomp any opportunity for meaningful resistance or counterattack.

"Garchomp, seize this moment and use Flamethrower!" Sundae commanded urgently.

Immediately after issuing the command, Sundae called across the battlefield, her voice carrying obvious pride.

"To specifically counter Garchomp's Ice-type weakness, I specially trained my Garchomp to master Flamethrower! Fire-type superiority should neutralize your Ice Beam assault!"
