Chapter 49 - The Second Update: Realisation

The TeddyEmperor was sitting in his chair on the bridge. His gaze was fixed on the countdown before himself; The update was seconds away. "Where is that NPC?" He asked.

The scene from hours earlier was playing through his mind, the test subject moving in weird ways, muttering words he could not make out. His chin was resting on his closed fist and his expression bored.

"Why do I even care where she is?" He asked himself. "Is it because she reminds me of Lana? No… Lana makes me happy, she infuriates me. Once I don't see any more use in her, I will kill her."

[INITIATE UPDATE]

[SYSTEM IS UPDATING]

"Alright-t-t-t…" The TeddyEmperor started to stutter. Thousands upon thousands of lines of code were shooting through his mind. His chin slipped from its resting position and the TeddyEmperor dropped to the ground. "He noticed everything. Every single system and character's data was flowing through him. For the first time he noticed it, his plushies were truly… "Alive."

He pressed against the overwhelming headache and stood back up, looking around the bridge. All the Teddys on the bridge had him surrounded, worried filling their tiny faces. "Captain…" They muttered, nervous for his safety.

He felt something moving in his eyes. "What is this?" The headache had not yet subsided and, for the first time in a long while, he cried. His friends, his children and most important companions were now able to look at him, feel with him and speak. Finally, he knelt down and opened his arms in a hugging motion( like a loving parent in a movie waiting for their child to run up to them).

The Teddys did not waste even a second to think or look at him, instantly running up and into his arms. The two dozen Teddys spaced themselves out evenly, climbing across his body and hugging him. "Are you hurt?" One of them asked.

"No…" He wanted to speak when he noticed something in the code still flowing through his mind. "Wait!" He saw something, the place where the two subjects' data were usually positioned was half empty.

His eyes darted around the remaining lines of code, trying to make sure it was Lana that remained. "That stupid one is gone… right?" But he knew he was wrong.

The Teddys who were cluttered onto his body, hugging him, spoke in a whisper: "Sure, daddy."

[My Lord, break the orb of the statue.]

Captain Teddy was relaxing, sitting below the statue of their hero, Lukas. The pedestal high enough that passing plushie copies could not see her.

There were hundreds of Geddos copies running around, having freed themselves from their constraints and using their abilities to kill one another. Their desire to be the only one, the true Geddos, was high. It was the reason for the constraints and the reason that Logi hunted others. But now that the update had come to pass, they gained the ability to age things hundreds if not thousands of years into the future, instantly turning other Geddos copies into ashes and dust.

For the Geddos copies, the Super Citadel had turned into a war zone, for the Teddy copies on the other hand had it turned into a construction site. They started building and constructing new buildings, having gained the ability to create matter in small quantities. And the Pheddie copies? They could reflect any damage against themselves to others, or that of others to themselves, which was the only reason the Geddos copies stopped trying to test their abilities against them.

"What a cute ability," Captain Teddy muttered, creating butterflies and moths made of light to fly around her. The update and the chaos around the Super Citadel helped her take her mind off of prior events. A small smile covered her snout.

Staring at the flying creatures of light she had created, she noticed someone sitting atop a building, a smile on his snout as well while he was staring at her. "Well, it seems you calmed down a bit. " he chuckled. It was Logi and to Captain Teddy's surprise, he was not taking part in the fight.

"Logi," she greeted him as he hopped down onto the pedestal. "Aren't you scared about being attacked?" She sat up, resting her arms on her legs and looking at him with compassion.

Logi chuckled. Suddenly, multiple black fireballs flew at him and vanished against the air, glowing for just a moment blue while vanishing.

"A shield? But how does it not age away, like everything else?" Confusion plagued her expression.

"How would something die of old age that is not affected by time?" Since his shield was not made with the technology found naturally in the simulation, but was made from magic, it did not age. He crouched down, grabbing Captain Teddy and jumping out of the way and up onto a building.

The sudden grab and jump temporarily scared Captain Teddy. The squeaked like a frightened bird and stared at him angrily as he put her back down. She turned to look down and… "Where—"

"The top of the council's tower. Above the highest floor," Logi said. "Usually, you get an incredibly beautiful view from up here, but these idiots ruined it." He wanted to bring her up here to help her relax a slight bit more, but below them, like two ant colonies atop one another, there was a war below them. "Still amusing though."

Captain Teddy stepped to the edge to look down and realised for the first time, she was absolutely terrified of heights. One of the things unique to her. She tried speaking, but could not get even a breath out, terrified as she was. She stepped back from the edge, getting a safe distance before settling down to look up into space.

Logi rested next to her and the two shared a few moments of silence and awe, not noticing the insignificantly small silver dot in the distance, growing ever closer.
