Kevin went to brew a pot of hot tea and then found himself staring at two abnormal creatures in the living room, doing nothing but wasting time.
At the two farthest ends of the elongated small coffee table sat the vampire girl, who looked on guard, and Lily, who was furious. The tension between them was palpable, with cold air and a wild atmosphere constantly surging in their interlocking gazes. Kevin could almost see visible grayish-blue air masses rotating above the coffee table. The tea was already on the table, but the two superwomen had no intention of using this opportunity to resolve their conflict. In this liver-shaking, low-pressure atmosphere, Kevin could only continue to shrink his neck, using his fragile constitution as an ordinary person to bear the double pressure from the werewolf and the vampire, while striving to come up with a way to make the two believe each other's words:
Lily insisted that the vampire in front of her wanted to suck the landlord's blood, and that everything the latter said was just a made-up story to escape because she couldn't beat her (Kevin wondered where this idiot got her confidence from), and that Kevin had been charmed by the vampire's magic and was therefore rambling nonsense. The vampire girl, on the other hand, insisted that Lily wanted to coerce a human to take advantage of the opportunity to lurk in human cities, and that everything Kevin said was due to werewolf threats...
This created a deadlock: They didn't believe each other, nor did they believe the third party, and there was no fourth party to be found on the scene...
Oh, actually, there was a fourth party on the scene, a black-and-white kitten squatting not far away eating. This magical creature named "Gun" was oblivious to the cold wind in the living room, guarding a basin of cat food like it was guarding the entire heaven. Kevin almost suspected that this clueless cat was also an "abnormality."
"Um," finally, Kevin, the host, had to break the silence. He first turned to the source of all the misunderstandings, the vampire girl, "So, Miss Vampire, about last night..."
"Please don't use the term vampire," The black-haired, straight-haired girl with a simple appearance but an innate cold and elegant demeanor slightly furrowed her brows. "Only those instinctual blood-drinking servants are considered vampires. We who can restraining the crimson ** are nobles among the bloodlines. Humans misunderstand us deeply and always get it wrong. You can call me Weilili, but my full name cannot be told you yet.
Oh," Kevin nodded, although he didn't know the difference between a blood-feeding servant and a high-ranking vampire, nor what the crimson ** was, he could tell that the black-haired, straight-haired girl in front of him was actually easy to talk to. "Weilili, right? So you weren't attacking us last night? Actually, you wanted to help?"
"I saw a human with a werewolf, and I didn't know if you were deceived or threatened," Weilili nodded. "Originally, I thought of snatching you away directly, no matter what curse the werewolf had cast on you, their inferior magic would be easy to deal with. But last night, I was not in good condition and was actually... injured by a concealed weapon. Beasts are beasts; they use every means possible in battle, with no sense of beauty."
"Pretentious," Lily snorted. "Can't fight is can't fight, and you come up with so many excuses. Look at me, where am I coercing the landlord? He can run and jump, and I'm not choking him."
The cold wind around Weilili suddenly intensified: "The claws of werewolves carry curses, do you think I don't know such common sense?"
Upon hearing this, Lily surprisedly looked down at her hands: "Wow, am I that powerful?"
Kevin decided to ignore this idiot and turned to look at Weilili, with a sincere face: "Look, I'm really not coerced! I swear to heaven that Lily didn't cast a curse on me!"
Weilili immediately nodded, and just as Kevin happily thought that this vampire... this noble blood girl had finally come to her senses, her face became stern and more serious: "Don't worry, I know you must be hindered by the curse and don't believe in my strength, that's why you dare not speak the truth. Wait until I recover my strength, and I'll show you that this wild dog who only throws bricks is no match for a high-ranking vampire!"
Upon hearing this, Lily immediately slapped the coffee table, and a large, even crack appeared on the surface: "Who are you calling a wild dog?! You winged rat!"
Weilili no longer suppressed her hostility and stood up abruptly, with a layer of frost covering the coffee table in front of her and the sofa behind her at a visible speed: "Think you're so tough? Let's fight again! It's because of you guys who can't control your instincts and make trouble everywhere that the situation has turned out like this!"
The killing intent originally contained around the coffee table finally spread out under the release of its owner, accompanied by two angry shouts, followed by howling winds and faint wolf howls. The oblivious "Gun" finally realized that something was wrong, quickly took a couple of bites of cat food and darted upstairs, leaving Kevin looking at his furniture, distressed: "My coffee table..."
I don't know how he managed to withstand that killing intent.
Don't worry, landlord, I'll pay for it," said Lily, who was indeed a good girl, immediately realizing her mistake and quickly apologizing to Kevin even in her anger.
Kevin had fully understood that the werewolf in front of him was an idiot, and the vampire was stubborn! Don't be fooled by Weilili's seemingly normal appearance; in reality, she might not be much smarter than Lily. These days, it seems like capable individuals can't live without some personality flaws, right?
Just as Lily and Weilili were about to start a fight in the living room, Kevin's originally abundant patience was finally worn thin. He pounded his fist on the coffee table and roared with the most imposing voice he could muster: "Enough! This is my house!!"
This roar and punch were actions Kevin, the slow-paced good-natured man, hadn't taken in years. But the deterrent power of a dormant panther unleashed finally showed a bit. The vampire girl and the werewolf girl finally realized they were in someone else's home, and one of them also realized she owed the landlord a new coffee table. So they both stopped abruptly, their four eyes staring unblinkingly at Kevin.
"What are you looking at me for?" Kevin was startled when he managed to quell the two "outcasts" with a roar. He hadn't expected to have the courage to roar in front of these powerful creatures who could kill a person with a wave of their hand (and successfully controlled the situation after roaring). But then he felt that having such a heroic feat in his lifetime was worth it. At this moment, looking at the four eyes on him, he felt a surge of confidence. "Look at yourselves, one is an idiot, and the other is stubborn! I'm the one involved here, okay? Don't you ignore the opinions of the involved party and arbitrarily draw conclusions for others, will you?! And besides, does this... does this fit your identities? When did werewolves and vampires start risking their lives to protect humans? Let me, the most confused guy here, figure this out first, and then we can sort out your misunderstandings, okay?"
Kevin had been holding back this question for a while. These days, with information exploding and cultures blending, who doesn't know the stories of vampires and werewolves? If you search the fantasy movie database casually, at least two out of ten movies are related to these two species. In Kevin's mind, bloodthirsty and irrational werewolves and venomous and cruel vampires were as eye-catching as two symbols. But what was going on with these two?
If he couldn't figure out this problem, he wouldn't even find a good rhythm to make a fool of himself!"
To everyone's surprise, Lily and Weilili spoke in unison: 'I'm not like those wild animals!'"
Then the two girls looked at each other with some surprise and snorted, turning their heads away. It was obvious that they only believed their own sincerity.
"I don't know what's wrong with the other members of my race. It seems like they can't live without fighting humans. But I've been with humans since I became conscious," said Weilili, crossing her arms. "And I instinctively... hate other vampires. Don't ask me why. I don't know. It's been like this since I was a child. And I can't stand seeing other 'outcasts' fighting humans. They're too stupid. That's it."
"I've never seen other 'outcasts,'" Lily sniffled, seemingly annoyed by Weilili's "scent". "I woke up in a very cold place, probably a snowy plain, and I was already in human form when I woke up. I was adopted by an old lady and grew up with humans for decades. We only moved when they started to suspect my unchanged appearance. I like humans. I'm used to humans. What's the problem?"
Kevin looked at these two abnormal creatures and decided to believe them.
Believing them or not was the same anyway; he couldn't defeat any of them.
