Chapter 23 - Contract With First Demon King

With Tokito's collapse, silence descended upon the throne room. The ominous power threatening the Demon Kingdom had finally been contained by those who loved him. Yet Tokito's condition remained shrouded in mystery. As he sat upon the throne with his eyes closed, everything had begun.

When his eyes shut, he found himself in a moss-covered tunnel. Slowly, he walked through it, shivering at the dripping water from the ceiling and the crumbling walls around him. Standing in the middle of the tunnel was a demon, arms crossed, gazing directly at Tokito. As he drew closer, he realized this demon was small in stature, with tiny horns, black hair, and sharp teeth.

"Hehehehe… Why are you here, Masajuka Tokito?"

Tokito had no doubt—it was the same presence that had been speaking to him in his dreams. When he reached the demon, he dropped to his knees and began to cry. The demon stared in confusion, unsure of what Tokito was doing. Then Tokito looked up and met his gaze.

Tokito: "Please… Give me all your power. I can't bear being this weak anymore."

"Hehehe… Wasn't a third of my power enough for you?"

Tokito: "To kill him… I need all of it."

The demon narrowed his eyes, folding his hands behind his back. He leaned in closer to Tokito's sorrowful face, studying his resolve. Satisfied, he whispered into his ear.

"Kih… kih… kih… A human like you can't handle my full power. You'll lose your soul."

That didn't matter to Tokito. Time had stopped for him the moment he died. Having once given his life to protect the one he loved, he was now ready to sell his soul again—for the sake of those he still wished to protect.

Tokito: "Even so… I choose to protect them. If I can eliminate all the traitors, they'll be safe."

"Love? Safety? Are such things really necessary, human? Kih, kih, kih… The power I hold could even kill the Hero—but it's dangerous. You'll lose everything that makes you human."

Tokito: "I can't endure this pain anymore. Just give me the strength to kill them… After that, you can do whatever you want with me."

"Very well. I'll give you all of my power. The terms of the contract are simple: I take your soul as collateral, and in return, your body will wipe out every last traitor."

Tokito: "I accept every term you offer. What do I have to do?"

The demon turned Tokito's face toward the wall and pointed.

"To your right lies the light—go there, and you'll return to your body. To the left is darkness—if you choose it, I will devour your soul, and you'll enter my world."

Tokito looked both ways. Without hesitation, he turned left toward the darkness. The demon grinned as he watched him go. Suddenly, his shadow began to shift.

From the shadow, a girl emerged. She had a sweet face and star-patterned clothing. Though it looked like she had no arms, they were hidden inside her outfit. On her head was a pink hat with bear ears. Her hair was a pale, luminous blonde. The demon turned to her, gently patting her head.

"Hehehehe… This human has chosen us, Nefi. He will become your older brother—and my child. Activate Code DHO. Awaken the Cruelty Spell. Fully activate it."

"But father… Big brother can't handle this. His body might never use magic again. In the worst case… he may never wake up."

"Hehehe… That fool asked for this himself. Let him enjoy life in my paradise… while we turn the world into our hell."

"As you wish, Father."

.

"Code DHO is forcibly activating! Access granted to the Cruelty Spell."

.

"Cruelty Spell is now active."

.

Unaware of what was happening, Tokito walked deeper into the darkness—until a light appeared at the end. When he reached it, he found himself in a paradise. Lush green grass, thriving plants, leafy trees, glistening fruits, and playful animals filled the landscape. Oblivious to the coming chaos, Tokito simply enjoyed the peace of this heaven.

From afar, the demon watched him, monitoring his condition. Tokito truly no longer cared about the world, and being in this place brought him peace. While he wandered the paradise with a calm heart, his body was already leaving the city… heading for Hafil Village.

"Why did you abandon the ones you loved?"

It was a whisper, carried on the wind—spoken by the demon from afar. The Demon King wasn't supposed to give up so easily. He began walking toward Tokito across the grass. Tokito sat on a tree branch, eating an apple while gazing at the sky.

"What's the point of idling here?"

This time, the demon shouted. Tokito glanced down at him, uninterested. The demon clenched his teeth. With a single kick, he struck the tree, shaking Tokito loose. He fell, landing on his back but quickly rising.

"I just don't understand… Why would you sacrifice yourself for people you love?"

"What do you think a life is worth?"

Tokito bowed his head to the grass. The demon kicked him hard, sending him flying.

"Because of you, everyone in that kingdom will be wiped out in war!"

Still, Tokito didn't care. To him, what he did was necessary. Another kick sent him crashing into a large rock. As the demon approached again, he demanded answers.

"Human, I'm asking you—why did you choose death?"

"That's none of your concern!"

Tokito's eyes blazed with anger. He shoved the demon back and stood. The demon growled and turned away. Tokito was beyond hope. As the demon stormed off, shredding the grass, Nefi was waiting nearby.

"What happened, Father? He's not changing his mind?"

"That bastard isn't coming back."

The first Demon King shed tears—this wasn't what he had wanted. He had hoped Tokito would use the power to destroy them all.

"If we can't convince him, the Cruelty Spell will reach full power. If that happens, there won't be a world left for our plan."

"I'm aware!"

The demon slammed his hand into a tree, shattering its trunk and incinerating the branches. Nefi looked at him in worry. Seeing her concern, he hugged her. Nefi peeked over his shoulder at Tokito.

"Father, why don't we bring big brother back?"

"I thought of that too, daughter. But I can't. We made a contract."

"What happens now, Father?"

The demon laid down on the grass, arms outstretched, staring at the sky. Nefi quietly sat beside him, plucking blades of grass as she gazed at his face.

"Hehehe… The world I came from once looked like this, Nefi. I recreated it, imagining my old home."

"If big brother dies… what will happen to us?"

"Forget that fool. He's of no use to us now."

"But we could still stop it anytime… I don't want to lose him!"

"When we made that contract, we were both sealed. I took his soul, and in return, granted his wish."

The demon showed her a glowing purple curse on his hand. Strange symbols etched in an ancient alphabet burned across it. When he touched it, his hand vanished.

"Do you understand now? This seal can't be broken. There's no going back."

Nefi stood up to go to her brother. The demon had his eyes closed, so he didn't see her walk away. Slowly, with a sorrowful face, Nefi approached Tokito and sat beside him after fixing her dress.

In truth, Tokito wasn't dreaming—his consciousness was here. That's why, while he slept, time in the real world was moving faster. As night fell and stars painted the sky, Tokito awoke to find a little girl staring at him.

"A-An angel…?"

Nefi's face wasn't human. She was a being born from nothingness. Adopted by the Demon King, he had given her the body she now wore. Created with emotions stronger than any human's, her origins were unclear—but she now belonged to the first Demon King.

"I'm not an angel, big brother. Even if you forget all of this, I'll never forget you."

Tokito scratched his head in confusion, staring at her for a while. Her golden hair, star-patterned clothes, and bear-eared hat captivated him. He reached out and touched her cheek. Her face turned bright red with embarrassment.

"B-B-Big brother! That's embarrassing!"

"You're such a sweet girl with soft cheeks. What's your name?"

"I've always been by your side, protecting you. I'm the screen you've always seen. My name is Nefi."

"So you're the one who's been showing me everything…"

Tokito laughed. Nefi laughed too. Together, they laughed through tears. Tokito sat up properly. When Nefi tried to hug him, he pushed her away.

"We can't be that close. That demon over there will punish you."

Nefi looked hurt, her eyes welling with tears. Unable to bear the sight, Tokito pulled her close and hugged her warmly, wrapping his arms around her small back. They both cried into each other's shoulders.

While Tokito cried here, his body continued to terrify everyone outside. Destroying the prison and heading toward Hafil Village—his physical form would soon be confronted.

Yet Tokito remained unaware, simply holding Nefi close in that peaceful paradise.

After a while, Tokito stood and took her hand. They walked together, passing trees and admiring the view. The emerald mountains, vast forests, and gentle animals reminded him of the world he had once come from.

After Tokito and Nefi had disappeared into the distance, the First Demon King slowly began to open his eyes. Rubbing them gently, he stood up and splashed his face with water magic. As he looked around, he realized he was alone. His voice echoed with growing desperation as he began calling out.

"Tokito! Nefi! Where did you go? Where did you vanish to? Wait a second… Don't tell me—don't you dare do it!"

Yes—his fear was not unfounded. Nefi was trying to sacrifice herself. That's why she had gone away with Tokito. Realizing what she might be about to do, the First Demon King ran in panic, searching everywhere for them. He had to stop her before it was too late.

"Please don't leave me, Nefi! Don't sacrifice yourself for him!"

Crying as he wandered through the forest, the Demon King searched every possible place—behind every tree branch, through the brush, in caves, and in every corner of this world. He slammed his fist to the ground in frustration, causing a tremor to ripple through the land. His anger was enough to obliterate anything in his path.

Meanwhile, Nefi and Tokito had walked a long distance and finally reached a mountain. It was an ordinary mountain—except for the dragon's nest perched at its peak. Tokito carried Nefi on his back and began to climb. With powerful leaps, he reached the top and tossed Nefi gently into the nest, then jumped in himself.

"This must be the nest you mentioned, Nefi. But… why did we come all the way here—to a dragon's nest with eggs? That was quite the journey."

Nefi looked at her brother's face. When Tokito noticed, he looked back at her. Seeing his face, Nefi felt her heart tighten. She grabbed his clothes and pulled him closer, her expression suddenly serious. Tokito blushed slightly, caught off guard.

"Big brother… what would you say if I told you… there's a way to save your body?"

Tokito was surprised. He hadn't expected a question like that. Clenching his fists, he hesitated—unsure how to answer. Nefi stared at him, full of anticipation.

"I… I don't know. This place is so beautiful… I don't want to go back. But… part of me still misses that world. I shouldn't abandon the demons who love me."

"I knew it… You always had two sides—one gentle, and one indifferent. But you don't have to stay here. We'll come to you."

Nefi suddenly pushed Tokito back and stepped away. He didn't understand what was happening. When he tried to get closer, Nefi's magic stopped him in his tracks.

"What do you mean—"

Before he could finish, a screen appeared in front of Nefi. It looked like Tokito's screen, but it was glowing red. Tokito stood in silence, watching, not knowing what she was doing. Nefi gave him one last glance, smiling softly before turning toward the screen.

"Admin Code: Magic Suppression."

.

"Admin Code activated. The contract made by Masajuka Tokito is being sealed. This process will consume all of Nefi Revilian's magical power and soul. Are you sure? Y/N?"

.

Yes.

.

"Contract between Masajuka Tokito and First Demon King Kando Revilian has been sealed. Cruelty Spell has been fully deactivated."
