Ding! Ding!
Gu You raised both arms in perfect rhythm, two faint green lights flaring in his palms as his hammers came crashing down.
'That's it! That's the feeling! It's back, it's back!'
Feng Wuyu flicked his spiky red hair with a blissful expression.
"He…" Shen Yi twitched at the corner of her mouth, pointing at Feng Wuyu.
"Just his usual old habit," Cai Yue'er said with a soft smile.
A string of dense, explosive bangs echoed out.
Both types of ore had incredibly high density, making them exceptionally hard to forge — let alone to fuse.
Boom!
Sparks flickered across the surface of the Dragonbeard Crystal. The originally golden ore now shone even purer, the fine needle-like structures inside completely dissolved and softened.
The Dragon Abyss Meteorite began to glow with black light as its unique devouring property activated, pulling the Dragonbeard Crystal toward it, tightly merging the two into a larger block of ore, a shimmering blend of colors dancing across its surface.
Seeing this, Gu You's face lit up with delight.
He wasn't especially skilled at fusion forging, especially when it came to combining ores like this. But it seemed the innate devouring property of the Dragon Abyss Meteorite had shortcut the process for him — now all he needed was to elevate the material through spirit forging.
Still, he knew this wasn't something he could rely on forever. What would he do when he didn't have ores with such properties? Solid skill was what mattered most. He silently resolved that after this success, he needed to seriously resume his forging studies.
A streak of light shot out from the fused ore's surface.
Thousand Refinements activated — the ore began to open!
Gu You spun his body smoothly, hammering without the slightest set rhythm.
A flick of the wrist here, a twisting pivot there — fast and sharp.
Watching this series of movements, Feng Wuyu's mouth slowly fell open. 'This hammering style… did this kid invent it himself?!'
Cai Yue'er kept her gentle smile, betraying no reaction.
Boom, boom, boom, boom, boom…
A barrage of thunderous hammer strikes echoed, each louder than the last, filled with perfect rhythm, cadence, and a deeply immersed forging state — all clear signs of Gu You's extraordinary forging level.
The fused ore continued shifting form, its glowing surface subtly transforming. It seemed to be taking on the qualities of the Life Essence Hammers, soon radiating a soft green light. A faint gray layer on its surface silently faded away as the material slowly shrank.
The pounding continued without pause. As the wild hammering pressed on, Gu You's strikes grew heavier and heavier. The fused ore's glow intensified, his Life Essence Hammers beginning to emit a deep hum, the very air in the forge swirling with energy.
Boom, boom, boom—!
Amid the clanging hammerfalls, six spirit rings unknowingly rose beneath Gu You's feet. His green life-attributed ring gleamed gold as he poured soul power into the process, channeling his fourth ring's life energy traits to purify the fused ore and imbue it with vitality.
Gu You's goal was to craft a two-word battle armor. His previous humanoid armor had been ruined, and he didn't intend to repair it — instead, he planned to fuse it directly with his draconic form's armor, re-engrave the arrays, and craft wing pieces from thin sheets of Life Essence Stone.
The problem, though, was the material cost. Two sets of battle armor were expensive. Dragonbeard Crystal was still relatively accessible on Douluo Continent, but Dragon Abyss Meteorite was another story — a rare extraterrestrial metal with only tiny reserves in the entire Federation, barely enough to make a full armor set.
That's why fusing it with other metals was the only practical solution.
BOOM!!
On the forty-eighth strike, Gu You spun his body in a full 360-degree turn. He was struggling to control his strength now, but confidence surged from within: 'I'm Gu You!'
The six rings encircling him suddenly vanished, replaced by two purple-blue rings. His rich blood energy erupted, massively boosting his strength. He raised the hammers — and brought them down!
With the final blow, a deafening bang!
On the forty-ninth strike, the fused ore shone brilliantly, its glow intensifying. Thousand Refinements complete — success!
The light lasted for over ten seconds before gradually fading. Faintly, a delicate dragon's roar echoed from within Gu You's Life Essence Hammers, subtle purple dragon patterns flickering across their surfaces.
Feng Wuyu, who had been standing quietly behind him, took a deep breath as his dark red eyes glowed faintly.
Bloodline resonance!
Feng Wuyu could feel his own martial soul resonating toward Gu You, his very aura shifting — an indescribable sensation.
The forging continued, the hammers pounding steadily, the glow brightening — until…
Spirit forging completed.
It worked. It actually worked!
Feng Wuyu stepped forward, clapping Gu You's shoulder vigorously.
"Old lunatic, does this really count as an alloy?" Gu You asked, still a little dazed. He wasn't sure if this was truly fusion forging or just a new alloy arising from the ores' natural properties.
"Of course it counts! Why wouldn't it?" Feng Wuyu beamed. "Before spirit forging, forgers just follow routines — they're basically skilled craftsmen. But at the spirit forging level, a forger truly develops their own intuition. And how you wield that intuition is what matters most.
"The biggest difference between a five- or six-star forger and a four-star is this: from now on, you're no longer working with single metals — you're working with alloys you understand."
He paused for a moment. "You know, spirit forging is about giving metal life. You've completed spirit forging many times before. So tell me: during spirit forging, especially when you're imbuing life, what's the hardest part?"
Gu You thought for a moment. "It's the process of imbuing life. As the metal is forged, it gradually gains spirit. When that spirit builds up enough, the metal reaches a threshold for transformation. At that point, we forgers use our own life force to awaken the spirit and truly breathe life into the metal, completing the spirit forging. But because metal doesn't have inherent life, the degree to which we can awaken its spirit is critical for success."
"Exactly! Smart kid — I always knew you had the makings of a divine craftsman," Feng Wuyu said with satisfaction. "Now, do you understand why some metals are harder to awaken than others? It's all tied to their innate qualities. The better the metal, the higher the chances of successful spirit forging.
"Creating life — it's one of the most sacred acts in the universe. In the moment life is created, an energy is born that we can't fully perceive. It's almost undetectable to us — but for lifeless materials…"
