The top eight had finally been decided.
One of the participants, due to severe injuries, could not take part in the next round. That participant had originally been set to face Long Yue. In other words, Long Yue would now advance directly into the semifinals without a fight.
However, no one believed that Long Yue had gotten off easy. In truth, the two contestants who had battled so fiercely in the previous round had clearly done so knowing that whoever advanced would face Long Yue—someone they couldn't possibly defeat. So, they had chosen to go all out in a bid to at least secure a spot in the top eight.
The news coverage was overwhelming, spreading across all major channels and publications.
Of course, many headlines screamed things like "Shrek Get Lost!"
But undeniably, the backlash also served as a twisted form of recognition—Shrek Academy's strength was now acknowledged, albeit begrudgingly.
Vice Chairman Tang Bingyao offered his congratulations to Elder Cai, expressing that the Federation would reward the outstanding performers of this tournament. Of course, such matters would be handled after returning to the Douluo Continent.
Next came the quarterfinals—four would emerge from the eight.
Gu You's opponent was Yuanen Yehui.
She calmly forfeited the match…
Long Yue and Lin San both advanced as well.
In the semifinals, Lin San did not follow Yuanen Yehui's example. He chose to face Long Yue head-on. The outcome, of course, was no surprise. He lost.
Even though he displayed greater power than in his match against Xie Xie and used his one-word battle armor to create some trouble for Long Yue, he was ultimately still defeated. From beginning to end, Long Yue hadn't even used his own battle armor.
Similarly, Gu You won his semifinal with ease.
The final match was now set.
This battle was officially declared by the organizers as the clash of two Dragon Kings.
It would take place the following morning, after a day of rest.
This match was regarded as the most significant showdown of the entire tournament. In many gambling circles, the odds between the two were almost even.
In the hotel—
"Dragon King versus Dragon King, this is getting interesting," Gu Yue teased as she looked at Gu You.
"No. It's not Dragon King versus Dragon King," Gu You shook his head.
"Then what is it?" Gu Yue asked curiously.
"Dragon God versus Dragon King."
Yuanen Yehui sat quietly in her room, cultivating. She had always been diligent. Even with her exceptional talent, she never let herself slack. Only she knew that her cultivation speed was not actually that fast. Though her two martial souls were both top-tier, they did not complement each other. In fact, they even repelled one another. Only by perfectly balancing them could she continue to improve her strength.
She had always worked hard because she had to become strong. Only with enough power could she complete that mission—that one thing that haunted her dreams and defined her purpose.
Xu Xiaoyan had already fallen asleep at the edge of the bed. Le Zhengyu, however, remained awake. He lay on his side, watching her as she slept, eyes full of gentle affection.
Ever since the day he was injured, she had been caring for him. They hadn't exchanged many words. Everything felt natural and unforced. But that simplicity—that warmth—meant more to Le Zhengyu than anything.
He had been born into a rigidly stratified family. Within that family, the purity of one's bloodline—and even the specific branch you were born into—dictated your status. He had been lucky. He was the heir of the main bloodline—the future head of the family. From a young age, he had grown up surrounded by admiration, respect… and plenty of jealousy. But he had never cared.
He had always thought, I am who I am. I am the representative of the Holy Angel family.
Only after arriving at Shrek Academy did he truly understand—he wasn't the strongest among his peers. The Holy Angel Martial Soul was powerful, but he had not yet mastered it. He still had a long way to go to become truly powerful.
Back in his family, everyone treated him like a star. When he was only ten years old, his family had already introduced him to girls of matching status, hoping he'd find one he liked.
But at that time, he had been at his most rebellious. The more someone was pushed in front of him, the less he liked them. Especially those girls who acted fake just to get close to him—some pretending to be cold, others overly sweet, and some overly refined. To him, it had all felt like acting.
So he'd decided to enroll in Shrek Academy. He wanted to escape the constraints of his family. He wanted to see the world outside—and experience the fireworks of life.
And he found those fireworks. He was lucky. He met her…
Gu Yue lay on her back on the bed, staring at the ceiling. She wasn't asleep. She didn't even feel like cultivating. Even she didn't know why.
Her emotions were restless. Tomorrow was the final. He would be facing Long Yue.
Sigh...
Gu Yue let out a soft sigh. Maybe this is fate. But where does his bloodline come from? It feels like destiny is moving things beyond our control.
But so what if it is destiny?
A flash of silver light sparkled in Gu Yue's eyes. Even if fate stands in our way, I'll destroy that fate with my own hands.
She sat up suddenly. In her mind, she heard again the words they had exchanged that day…
…
Morning.
Outside the hotel, a soul car was already waiting. Today was the final match of the individual competition. To avoid unnecessary delays and to ensure Gu You arrived at the venue promptly, the organizers had sent a vehicle to escort him.
This match was hailed as the ultimate battle between Monster Academy and Shrek Academy. So, all participants from both academies were allowed into the waiting area to observe the fight.
Eight people boarded the car. Surrounded by escort vehicles in front and behind, they drove straight toward the Star Luo Grand Stadium.
Today, not only was the stadium packed to its limits, but even the areas outside were overcrowded. Every prime spot in front of the big screens had been taken. Many had arrived the night before just to secure a good view—some had even brought tents.
To witness this match up close, the people of the Star Luo Empire had truly gone all out.
Everyone wanted to see this ultimate battle with their own eyes.
Inside the stadium, every seat was already filled.
On the main platform, Emperor Dai Tianling sat in the center. Seated beside him were Monster Academy's Dean Enci, the Douluo Continent's delegation leader Tang Bingyao, and Shrek Academy's Outer Court Dean Cai Yue'er. All of them were present today.
Cai Yue'er had originally been reluctant to sit on the platform, but the Empire's warm invitation had made it hard to refuse.
Without a doubt, there were political motives behind this. In the end, Elder Cai had agreed to come.
The weather today was perfect…
