As he spoke, Jiang Wuyue raised his hand and gave Gu You two heavy slaps on the shoulder.
They weren't light by any means, but Gu You accepted them with a smiling face.
"Thank you, sir. By the way, about that meal I earned today?" Gu You asked.
Jiang Wuyue waved his hand generously. "Go ahead and eat. The lower-numbered windows serve the best food. I suggest you go to window one. I lost, and I accept it!"
At least the man had a straightforward personality—and he even pointed out where the most expensive food was.
"No need to borrow from you for now, sir. Thank you." Gu You smiled at Long Yuxue and headed for window one.
Only then did Jiang Qiyue turn to look at her brother, clearly curious. The surrounding soldiers who had been watching began to disperse. Although they were curious about Gu You, nothing took priority over eating during meal time.
After all, getting to eat one more meal in the Blood God Legion meant surviving one more day…
Jiang Wuyue smiled bitterly. "That kid's a freak. His strength's unbelievable—even stronger than mine."
"No way!" Jiang Qiyue's jaw dropped. "Didn't your last strength test hit over thirty thousand kilograms? Don't tell me you were holding back?"
Jiang Wuyue's mouth twitched. "Holding back? Do I look like the type? But yeah, he's good. That kind of power would be best used in our melee battalion. I'm going to ask the higher-ups to assign him to us."
"He's part of our Special Ops division. Don't even think about it," Long Yuxue's cold voice floated over.
"Special Ops?" Jiang Wuyue was stunned. "Yuxue, you want this guy too? But Special Ops is mostly about reconnaissance and long-range strikes. What good is someone like him to you?"
Long Yuxue didn't bother to explain. She simply pointed toward window one. "Seems like your situation isn't looking great."
Jiang Wuyue instinctively turned and looked. The moment his eyes landed on what was happening, his expression changed drastically. "Is that brat crazy?" he bellowed, striding quickly toward the food counter.
At window one, trays of food were being brought out one after another. They were already lined up across the platform in front of the counter, and they were still coming.
In just a short time, over a dozen servings had been laid out.
There was a reason why no one lined up at windows one, two, or three. In the Blood God Legion, all meals required military merit. And meals from window one cost the equivalent of the merit gained from a low-intensity combat mission. To put it plainly—just one serving from window one was enough for a third-class soldier to be promoted to second-class.
While later promotions required exponentially more merit, that still showed just how outrageously expensive the meals were.
The food in the cafeteria was always served in generous portions—enough to fill even the biggest eater. And yet, here were more than a dozen trays.
Even a lieutenant colonel like Jiang Wuyue couldn't afford this kind of indulgence.
"You brat! What the hell are you doing?" Jiang Wuyue shouted angrily.
Gu You turned to him with an innocent look. "Didn't you say I could eat my fill, sir?"
Jiang Wuyue's momentum stalled. "Yeah, I said that—but that doesn't mean you can waste food. Don't you know waste is a crime in the army?"
Gu You straightened up and answered seriously, "Sir, rest assured—I won't waste a single bite."
"You think you can finish all that? Let me remind you—meals from window one include precious natural resources and spiritual ingredients. They're incredibly nutritious. You won't just be unable to eat it all—you won't even be able to digest it. Aren't you afraid you'll burst?"
Gu You smiled. "Then how about another bet, sir? If I can finish it all, next time—"
"Get lost! Who's betting with you again? Just return the food!" Jiang Wuyue snapped in frustration.
A voice floated out from behind the counter at window one. "Sold items are non-refundable. Captain Jiang, you said it yourself—willing to bet, willing to lose."
Jiang Wuyue's face twitched. Promotion from lieutenant colonel to colonel required an enormous amount of merit. He'd been accumulating points for over a year and still had two-thirds to go. One meal like this would wipe out a tenth of his savings. It hurt more than losing a limb.
Gu You, meanwhile, had already started eating with gusto at the counter.
Gritting his teeth, Jiang Wuyue paid the bill. But when he turned back around to glare at Gu You, his anger froze on his face.
Because in the time it took to pay, three servings from window one had already vanished. Gu You was halfway through his fourth.
The massive bowl of snow spirit bird stew—made from an entire snow spirit bird—was gone in moments. In Jiang Wuyue's view, a giant bird leg entered Gu You's mouth, and the next instant, the bone came out clean. The soup bowl was empty in just a few breaths.
His eating was fast, but not sloppy. It was like watching a well-oiled machine. While Jiang Wuyue was still stunned, another tray had already been polished off.
Far in the distance, both Jiang Qiyue and Long Yuxue were stunned.
"This guy might be handsome, but who could afford to feed him?" Jiang Qiyue gulped.
Long Yuxue's lips curved into a playful smile. "If I'm not mistaken, didn't someone just double down? Do you have enough military merit? If not, you can borrow from me. You said earlier we can't break the rules—so I'll go with the standard 100% monthly interest."
"No, Yuxue!" Jiang Qiyue wailed. "I'll go broke! I've been saving merit forever just to make major! What kind of monster did you bring here? What am I supposed to do now? Please, Yuxue, help me beg him. You brought him in!"
Long Yuxue shrugged. "You reap what you sow. I can't help you. Good luck."
By the time Jiang Wuyue watched Gu You finish every last one of those dozen-plus window one meals, his jaw was practically on the floor.
Then Gu You turned to the cook behind the counter and asked, "Any more?"
"Nope, that's all for today," the chef replied.
"You can still eat more?" Jiang Wuyue blurted out.
"I'm not even full yet. But forget it. I'll stop here," Gu You said, nodding contentedly.
"Seriously?" Jiang Wuyue blinked, looking like he might cry. 'Looks like my promotion's going to be delayed for a long time…'
After barely finishing his meal, Gu You turned toward Jiang Qiyue and Long Yuxue…
