Blade Demon—that was the title of Contestant Number Nine.
He was a towering, burly man, no smaller than Long Yue from before. Though his appearance was masked by the system, his build radiated a wild and unruly aura. In his hand was an enormous blade—his martial soul—over four meters long and officially named the Dragon-Slaying Blade.
The blade was dark red with strange textures etched along its edge. These patterns resembled severed dragons, as if each stroke had once felled a mythical beast. On the blade glowed four purple and four black soul rings—an eight-ring Soul Douluo.
His battle armor matched the weapon in color, also dark red, radiating an aura that could seemingly rupture the air with a single roar.
Ye Xinglan had never faced an opponent with such overwhelming presence. The sheer intensity of it was as if it could shatter the mountains and rivers. Even her signature sword-body unity was suppressed, her sword intent heavily disrupted.
"Jian—Xing—Hun!"
Ye Xinglan enunciated the three words slowly, and with each syllable, the sword shadow atop her Star God Sword surged three meters higher.
As she swung her sword with immense weight, it was as if a galaxy cascaded from the heavens. Though the two combatants stood hundreds of meters apart, the tremendous sword shadow reached Blade Demon Sima Jinchi in the blink of an eye.
Sima Jinchi's expression changed slightly, but without hesitation, he swept his Dragon-Slaying Blade upward in response.
The massive blade aura echoed with the wails of fallen dragons as it clashed with the galaxy-falling sword soul in midair.
Though the battle had only just begun, it was already nearing its climax.
The moment the sword soul and blade soul collided, the sky tore open and the entire arena trembled violently. A massive black vortex emerged at the center of their clash, swallowing stars and silencing the anguished dragon cries.
The spectators' vision seemed to freeze—until a sound, like the very world being torn apart, roared through the air.
Cracks split across the earth as dozens of massive fissures scarred the arena floor.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
A series of deafening explosions shattered the sky.
Swords and blades clashed in an all-out storm, their energies colliding across the stage.
The thunderous impacts continued for over ten seconds before gradually fading. When the dust settled, only one figure remained standing.
The Dragon-Slaying Blade now lay buried in the ground, scarred with crisscrossing sword marks. Opposite him, the girl had already vanished in the destructive aftermath of the duel.
"Good sword!" Sima Jinchi shouted, slinging his weapon over his shoulder before striding away.
Snap! The Star Dou Pod opened.
Ye Xinglan sat up with a pale face, her skin nearly bloodless.
"Xinglan-jie, are you okay?" came Xu Lizhi's concerned voice from outside.
"Li…zhi…" she murmured weakly, before collapsing back into the pod.
Xu Lizhi rushed in like a gust of wind. He no longer cared that she was nearly unclothed, quickly lifting her out of the pod and laying her on the nearby bed.
Her breathing was faint, but her pulse was steady—clearly suffering from severe spiritual and physical exhaustion.
…
"Congratulations. I didn't expect you to come this far." Tianfeng Douluo Leng Yaozhu regarded the young girl before her with sincere admiration.
She had witnessed the entire examination, and even to her, it was nothing short of astonishing. Gu Yuena's performance couldn't be described as merely flawless—it had gone far beyond perfection. It had even caught the attention of the Spirit Pagoda's Pagoda Master.
At just fifteen or sixteen years old, Gu Yuena had been appointed a preparatory Spirit Transmitter, the youngest in the Spirit Pagoda's history.
The Pagoda Master had even stated that as long as Gu Yuena reached the level of eight-ring Soul Douluo and acquired a three-word battle armor, she would be directly promoted to a full Spirit Transmitter and become one of the Spirit Pagoda's senior authorities.
Gu Yuena was now the undisputed leader of the Pagoda's younger generation—without equal.
"Thank you, teacher." Gu Yuena gave Leng Yaozhu a polite nod.
Leng Yaozhu sighed lightly. "Watching you grow day by day, it reminds me I'm getting old. The future of the Spirit Pagoda belongs to your generation."
Gu Yuena gently shook her head. "Teacher, you're not old at all. I still have a long way to go."
Leng Yaozhu smiled. "You call that a long way? With just seven rings, you defeated a Title Douluo in a near-complete suppression without even using battle armor. If that's still lacking, then us old folks might as well retire now! If you become a Title Douluo, who knows how powerful you'll be. By the way, your spiritual power has reached the Spirit Domain Realm, hasn't it? Otherwise, you couldn't have commanded the elements the way you did."
"Mm." Gu Yuena nodded lightly.
After closing the door behind her, her expression turned cold. She walked slowly to the window, gazing into the distance. From her room, she could just barely see in the direction of Shrek City.
"He'll come back… eventually," she murmured to herself.
…
Lately, all of the Douluo Continent had been buzzing about one thing—the Star Dou Battle Network Federation Challenge. With the finals underway and under the full endorsement of the Federation, it had become a national spectacle.
The Blood God Legion was no exception.
After the first round of finals, two of the remaining eight contenders were from the Blood God Legion. Gu You was one of them. The other was Qian Qian, the captain of the Legion's Honor Guard.
Qian Qian walked calmly into the lounge area, quietly ordering a black coffee.
The café was packed. The Blood God Legion always provided the best supplies, and coffee was no exception.
He scanned the room and noticed that every table was occupied—except one.
In a corner, a lone man sat gazing out the window with a faint smile, lost in thought. Though he showed only his profile, it was enough to capture attention—a face so handsome it defied reason.
With Qian Qian's sharp eyesight, he could make out every detail clearly…
