Chapter 8 - Wedding celebration

Originally planning to leave, Humphrey Walker was taken aback by the scene before him.

To him, it was a huge irony that such a trashy couple could receive such enthusiastic applause.

"I've never seen a proposal like this before. No flowers, no diamond ring, no romantic setting. Just kneeling on one knee to take home an ugly duckling—it's both pitiful and laughable!"

Hearing Humphrey's words, Navid Byrd frowned slightly, suddenly realizing he might have forgotten something important. The proposal had been rushed, and he hadn't had time to prepare much. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a black token.

He handed the token to Priya Yarrow with sincerity. "This is a medal I've earned through years of hard work. I'm giving it to you today, and from now on, you represent me."

Priya accepted the gift graciously, even though she couldn't quite tell what it was.

But that didn't stop her from liking it. To her, what mattered was Navid's intention; flowers, rings, and gifts were not important.

"Oh my goodness! A piece of rock is enough for a successful proposal? I've seen it all today! This ugly duckling is a disgrace to the Yarrow family—cheap and lowly!" Sierra Yarrow said with an exaggerated eye roll.

A piece of rock? Navid shook his head inwardly at Sierra's words. This was the unique token of the War God King of the entire Great Summer. Holding it was like holding the lifeline of the nation. If Sierra knew its true value, she'd probably regret it to the point of fainting!

"Priya Yarrow, you're really something! Years ago, you lost your last chance to heal your appearance to save this loser, and now you're foolishly letting him trick you with a rock. In the future, don't ever tell anyone you're a Yarrow!"

Sierra mocked with a frown, though she couldn't quite understand why her taunts left her feeling a bit hollow. It was as if she had suddenly lost something that belonged to her.

The feeling was inexplicable but undeniably real.

Suddenly losing interest in mocking the couple, Sierra looped her arm through Humphrey's and prepared to leave.

"What's the rush? Since today is a special day for them, and the way home is so far, why not give them a ride as a gesture of congratulations?" Humphrey Walker squinted as he spoke.

"Whatever you say. Why are you just standing there? Hurry up and get over here!" Sierra Yarrow impatiently glared back at Priya Yarrow.

The distance home was indeed far, so Priya didn't think much and started to step toward the car.

But Navid Byrd held her back, and thankfully so, because Priya avoided an embarrassing situation.

Just as she was about to step in, Humphrey suddenly slammed the luxury car door shut. He laughed loudly, "My car isn't for dogs!

A car worth millions, you're not worthy of stepping inside!"

Seeing this, Sierra's interest was piqued again.

She rolled down the window and looked at Priya, whose face was flushed with embarrassment. "In three days, we're having our wedding celebration at the Star Sea Hotel.

Everyone in town will be sending us their blessings. Priya, where are you planning to have your wedding?"

Priya felt a wave of awkwardness wash over her.

A luxurious hotel, a grand wedding—those were things she couldn't even dream of.

"Do we even need to ask? Probably in that doghouse of theirs, just a shabby sleepover," Humphrey chimed in. "Besides, who would attend their wedding? It would be too embarrassing!"

Priya's expression slowly returned to normal. So what if there was no wedding?

As long as she could live happily with Navid and their daughter, that was all that mattered.

Now that her grandfather was gone, the entire Yarrow family was under Sierra's control. Priya was no longer the pampered heiress she once was.

Even if a wedding were held, there wouldn't be anyone to offer their blessings.

It was just a shame that she had always dreamed of wearing a wedding dress, a dream that seemed unlikely to come true in this lifetime.

Navid Byrd suddenly pulled Priya Yarrow into his arms, gently stroking her hair with affection. "Weddings are something the groom should handle, silly. You just wait and see."

"I heard the Star Ocean Hotel is the most luxurious place around. In three days, we'll have our wedding there! I'll give you a fairy-tale celebration!"

"Are you out of your mind? Do you even know how much it costs to hold a celebration there? Do you have a membership card?" Humphrey Walker looked at Navid as if he were a fool.

Even with the power and status of his family, securing a wedding there wasn't easy. And Navid, who was a nobody, was just talking big without any limits!

"Exactly! People like you would be kicked out just for standing at the entrance of the Star Ocean Hotel. Do you even know your place?" Sierra Yarrow chimed in.

"Enough. It's okay if we don't have a wedding. Let's just live our lives quietly. I don't need all these flashy things," Priya said, holding back Navid from arguing further. She shook her head, trying to reason with him.

In truth, she did like the idea of a wedding celebration. What girl doesn't dream of wearing a wedding dress and marrying the man she loves? But given their situation, Priya, with her strong sense of pride, would rather have nothing than see her man reduced to empty boasts and grand promises.

Seeing Priya being so understanding and mature, Navid's heart was filled with tenderness. He silently vowed once more to bring the best of everything to her.

The wedding had to be grand! It had to be magical and romantic! His wife, as the queen of the world, deserved nothing less than the very best.

Sitting in the luxury car, Sierra Yarrow and Humphrey Walker exchanged snide remarks, freely insulting Navid Byrd and Priya Yarrow.

Navid, however remained silent, making a subtle gesture with a faint smile on his lips.

Half a minute later, the roar of an engine shook the ground beneath them. Navid picked up his slightly startled daughter, quietly gazing toward the street corner.

"Oh my gosh, is that the legendary luxury car?"

"It must be! I remember that license plate number—J99999!"

"Three years ago, I heard a mysterious billionaire spent a fortune to get that plate, but no one ever saw it on the road!"

The onlookers quickly gathered at the street, chattering excitedly. Humphrey and Sierra Yarrow, being from wealthy families, knew better than anyone the story behind that license plate.

Back then, the richest heir in the city tried to bid for that plate but ultimately lost. In the elite circles, tales of the mysterious buyer who won the plate have been circulating ever since.

"He's a true god-level tycoon!" Sierra Yarrow thought, amazed. "He bought the license plate and would rather let it gather dust at home as a toy." She never imagined she'd see it on the street today! Sierra was utterly captivated by the limited-edition luxury car.

The whole setup must be worth over 300 million!

If she could sit in that car, even for just a minute, she'd probably faint from happiness.

As whispers spread through the crowd, a woman with a cold demeanor and unparalleled beauty stepped out of the luxury car. She walked toward Navid Byrd with an expressionless face, bowed slightly, and respectfully said, "Master."

What? Did I just hear that right?

Sierra rubbed her eyes in disbelief. Was this scene just an illusion? The woman driving the luxury car called that loser "Master"? Was she crazy?

In the midst of everyone's shock, Navid took Priya Yarrow's hand, picked up his daughter, and got into the car, driving away without a second glance.

Sierra and Humphrey Walker exchanged bewildered looks, unable to comprehend what had just happened. They couldn't understand why such a luxurious car would come to pick up Navid.

In their eyes, Navid was less than nothing, the lowest of the low in society. How could someone like him possibly ride in a luxury car? It made no sense!

Humphrey was stunned, and after a while, he suddenly slapped his forehead in realization. "This has to be a show! Navid must have rented the car to put on a front.

Someone as poor as him could never afford such a car."

"Yeah, that must be it. He's just pretending to be rich!"

Sierra Yarrow nodded in agreement, absolutely convinced that Navid Byrd couldn't possibly own those luxury cars!
