Uncharacteristically, Ishtar wasn't her usual boisterous self. She simply stared intently at Asher. She wanted to say, "It's alright, you've done well, no one else could have done this much. At least you successfully weakened Tiamat's power and made her like this." She wanted to say, "You've done well." ...She wanted to, but she couldn't.
"It failed."
Asher stared blankly at Tiamat in the distance. Her current size was only slightly larger than a normal human, yet she still exuded an oppressive feeling that made it hard to breathe. Whether Asher's words in Tiamat's dream had influenced her, or if her consciousness had somehow recovered, Tiamat's self-seal was clearly much stronger than before, which could be judged from her current size.
However, she was still advancing towards Uruk. The
goddesses beside them clearly saw that Asher had failed. Urged by Merlin, they finally rushed forward, attempting to stop Tiamat's advance. No one knew if Tiamat would break her seal the moment she entered Uruk. She had to be intercepted outside Uruk.
Mordred, Jeanne, Quetzalcoatl, Gorgon, and a host of Heroic Spirits rushed towards Tiamat. As she looked up, she once again let out a sound:
"Aaaaa"
The sky seemed to be stained blood-red, countless sparks instantly spreading, as if the world had ended. The soldiers of Uruk climbed the city walls in an orderly fashion. Once Tiamat came within firing range, even if they couldn't cause significant damage, they would do their utmost to stop her advance.
Asher remained motionless, simply staring blankly at Tiamat. Merlin's hypnotic magic could only be used once, and it was only used unexpectedly. That opportunity was gone now; nothing he did would matter.
Boom!
Fire erupted behind Tiamat. The suburban forest was burning. That was merely the disaster caused by Tiamat's unconscious retaliation after being attacked by the goddesses earlier, and this was even after her reinforced self-seal. It was clear that without the seal, the Heroic Spirits' Noble Phantasms would likely be completely unable to stop Tiamat.
"It's over, Asher," a voice suddenly said beside him. Gilgamesh had approached Asher at some point. He looked at the Heroic Spirits entangled with Tiamat. He raised his hand and stroked Sleipnir's head. "Do you regret it?"
"Regret won't help; I did indeed fail," Asher said, not looking at him. "After this, stopping Mother is up to you. I'm useless now."
Gilgamesh gazed at Asher's face. "Are you serious?"
Asher didn't answer.
"Fool!" Gilgamesh's voice suddenly rose.
Asher didn't understand his meaning, so he turned to look at Gilgamesh.
Boom!
Perhaps finally angered by the continuous attacks, Tiamat counterattacked. Some kind of power seemed to be unleashed from her center, and a dark red fire spread, accompanied by a terrifying explosion that echoed through the sky. Gilgamesh showed no sign of wavering, merely sternly admonishing, "Utterly foolish! To possess such strength, yet to have such a weak and fragile mind.
You truly disappoint this King, Asher!"
"I've done my best... what do you want me to do?" Asher said softly. "Go and stop Tiamat with you? I'm sorry, I can't."
"Then, what about the opposite?" Gilgamesh said.
"What?"
"I said, the opposite," Gilgamesh repeated. "Since you cannot join us in stopping Tiamat's advance, since you still feel regret, why not stop us?"
"Do you know what you're saying?" Asher looked at Gilgamesh.
"This King knows exactly what he's saying. Without the resolve to risk everything, how can one claim to have done their best?" Gilgamesh stared at Asher with a stern gaze. "Answer this King, did you truly do your best? Have you tried every possible method and still cannot save Tiamat, so now you will watch her fade away?"
Gilgamesh slowly closed his eyes.
"This King once felt anger for someone, but it wasn't because a dear friend died, but because his death was unreasonable. He wasn't even a sacrifice; it was merely because this King offended the gods, and they inflicted divine punishment," he opened his eyes. "You still have a chance."
Asher looked at Gilgamesh with a complex expression, softly saying, "You might regret this."
"This King will not regret his words or actions," Gilgamesh said, a rare smile appearing on his face as he watched Asher rush towards Tiamat. "Go! This is the last order I give you as your Shishou. Don't live a life of regret, Asher!"
Boom!
Another terrifying explosion echoed from afar. Goddess Quetzalcoatl finally decided to unleash her Noble Phantasm. If ordinary attacks couldn't stop Tiamat's advance, then only a Noble Phantasm could halt her.
"Blazing Flames, Burn Even Gods"
But just as Quetzalcoatl was about to unleash her Noble Phantasm, a faint voice came from afar. Quetzalcoatl couldn't make out what the other party was shouting, but she saw a brilliant golden light separate the Heroic Spirits attacking Tiamat. So, everyone looked in the direction of the attack.
Excalibur.
"King Arthur, do you know what you're doing?!" Merlin exclaimed in surprise, but the next moment, Asher had already flashed beside Quetzalcoatl. Under her surprised gaze, he grabbed Quetzalcoatl and spun her around, smashing her into the oncoming Gorgon.
Merlin, off to the side, finally reacted. He covered his forehead with a sigh, about to step forward and stop Asher, who seemed to be acting recklessly, but he was kicked in the back. The person then pressed Merlin down onto the floor.
"Don't look at me like that, I'm really good at stabbing people in the back, you know?" Mordred bared her teeth, a triumphant smile on her face, as she noticed Merlin turning his head.
"Where's your chivalry, Mordred?" Merlin shouted, trying to struggle, but found there was no room to struggle at all.
"What's chivalry compared to Father?"
"You're not stopping your father, but instead stopping me?" Merlin asked incredulously.
"Everything Father does is right," Mordred said.
"He might be acting recklessly right now... even doing something wrong."
"That's still right," she said stubbornly.
"Aaaaa"
Feeling another human approach, Tiamat sang again. Heatwaves spread from her center, stopping Asher's continued approach. "Stop shouting," he said softly. But Tiamat didn't stop her singing. She parted her lips and sang again to stop this human's advance.
"Aaaaa"
"I told you to stop shouting!" Asher stared intently at Tiamat. Seriously... stop shouting. If this continues, you'll die, you know? Now you've threatened human history, so you must die. Even if you don't die, you'll have to go back to the Imaginary Number Space and continue sleeping, and then stay there forever and never come out.
If that's the case, why are you still shouting? Aren't you going to break your self-seal? Do you intend to destroy Uruk with this body that's only slightly larger than a human? Is this how you get revenge on your children?
At this rate, the one who will ultimately be destroyed is only yourself!
Lightning spread from Tiamat's center, illuminating the dark night. Asher slowly walked forward. He didn't know what he was thinking, only that he wanted to stop her, to make the bastard who caused this situation, who hid back in the Time Temple, know that his plan had failed, utterly and completely failed.
But he truly didn't know what to do. Just getting close to Tiamat would result in being struck by the descending lightning. It seemed the only option left was to send her to the Underworld. But for some reason, Tiamat, while singing, did not advance further. She was just continuously singing, continuously releasing her magical power.
Merlin finally broke free from Mordred's hold, about to step forward and stop Asher, who seemed to be acting recklessly, but he was pulled back by someone else.
"Even Goddess Ishtar, you too..."
"Why?" Merlin couldn't help but ask. He noticed that at some point, the Heroic Spirits who had been trying to stop Tiamat's advance had all stopped attacking.
"Mother is crying," she said, looking at Tiamat.
Merlin froze, looking up. Tears indeed streamed down
Tiamat's face, but the lightning's range in mid-air was also gradually expanding. Yet, Asher charged into Tiamat's presence, facing the lightning.
"If you shout again, I'll have to cover your mouth."
Under the astonished gazes of everyone, he leaned down, licked away Tiamat's tears, his lips sliding down her wet cheek, and then he enveloped Tiamat's lips with his own.
