"The entrance is just ahead. Please be very careful. Once you enter this tree, you might encounter danger at any moment," Kiara Sesshouin warned kindly. In front of them appeared a tunnel-like passage, bottomless. Even Asher tried to see through it with his eyes but couldn't.
Undoubtedly, there was unknown danger ahead.
"From the moment I left Camelot, I haven't thought about danger or no danger. Anyway..." Asher, carrying Kiara on his back, stepped into the tunnel.
"Let's just die."
"Are you doing this to help King Arthur solve this problem? Are you afraid that there will be another round of divine sneak attacks on Britain, so you want to resolve the matters of the Nordic country in advance?" Kiara asked.
"And also investigate the secrets of the Nordic country," Asher said.
"You're not denying my guess?" Kiara smiled. "What a kind person." Asher couldn't be bothered with her. He always harbored doubts about Kiara. No matter how gentle or amiable she appeared now, it was ultimately just a facade. No, it wasn't a facade; her gentleness and amiability were genuine, but her self-love was also genuine.
"Am I burdening you? Is carrying me like this very tiring?" Kiara continued to ask.
"No, it's about the weight of two buckets of water. I guess your weight shouldn't exceed two to three buckets of water," Asher said. Kiara,? (lying prone) on his back, indeed wasn't heavy. Even with the considerable added weight of her two heavy chests, it didn't seem to affect Asher's stamina much. Perhaps this was the result of years of consistent training. They were currently walking towards the tunnel's exit, and Kiara had been casually observing their surroundings from the beginning, seemingly unconcerned about anything, until she heard Asher's words. Only then did Kiara's smile slowly stiffen, and then she said in a somewhat unnatural tone:
"I think, regardless, describing a woman with two or three buckets of water is quite rude."
Asher smiled, "I was just giving a more accurate description. If I really tried to guess your weight, that would be even more rude. Besides, what I meant to express was that your weight isn't particularly heavy for me."
"Is that a compliment?" Kiara raised an eyebrow.
"No," Asher raised his right hand, and a golden halo appeared behind him. He grabbed a weapon. "Most women's weight isn't heavy for me..." He threw the weapon. The winged guard that had just appeared was pierced through and vanished into particles. He paused, then added: "My mother's weight is an exception." If Tiamat returned to her original form, she could probably crush him into paste.
Several halos appeared in front, shooting at several guards silently approaching from behind. They glowed, as beautiful as angels from heaven, but disappeared instantly after being pierced by Asher's weapons. After dealing with those suddenly appearing guards, the faintly surging aura in the tunnel quietly subsided. They probably realized that this intruder was
not something they could stop.
Rumble... rumble... Thunder suddenly echoed in the tunnel. Then, a white steed ran up to the two of them from the distance.
"Is this...?" Asher was a little bewildered.
"It should be a mode of transport for the Nordic country, right?" Kiara guessed. Asher's Sleipnir couldn't be summoned here. More accurately, it wasn't that he couldn't summon it, but that the magic he used to hide Sleipnir's true appearance wouldn't work, so he simply gave up on summoning the Pegasus. But he didn't expect a new mode of transport to appear on its own now. The white steed let out a soft neigh. It had a saddle on its back, and with just one glance, one could tell it was a fast, good horse.
"I see, a mode of transport?" Asher glanced at it, then walked around the white horse and continued forward. This time, even Kiara couldn't help but gently pat Asher's head.
"Aren't you going to ride the horse to leave here?"
"I don't know if it's friend or foe. If it's an enemy, it will attack me the moment I get on," Asher said.
"That's what you say, but you just want to keep carrying me like this, right? I can guarantee you, this child," Kiara pointed at the white horse, "will absolutely not attack us. I don't feel any killing intent from it."
"You're wrong, I didn't want to carry you, and honestly, carrying you in a place like this is very troublesome. If an enemy ambushes us, I might not be able to protect you," Asher put Kiara down. "Since you're sure this horse is fine, then let's ride it."
"You trust me that much?" Kiara was surprised.
"No, I just think if you wanted to ambush me, you've had countless opportunities along the way," Asher shook his head. Asher had been wary of Kiara ever since they started their journey, but now his vigilance wasn't as strong. He vaguely felt that Kiara wouldn't make a move here, as she had countless opportunities along the way but didn't take them.
"Since it's not trust, are you betting I won't ambush
you?" Kiara chuckled.
"I'm just betting you won't suddenly go crazy," Asher said quietly, then walked forward, patted the white horse, and mounted it. Then he extended his hand to Kiara.
"Let's go. Hurry up. We've probably already been discovered the moment we entered the World Tree."
"Thank you," Kiara smiled politely, took his hand, and mounted the white horse. Before, Asher didn't know this woman was such a chatterbox, and he didn't know what she was thinking. As the white steed moved towards the exit, she kept talking about all sorts of random things. However, Asher paid no attention, he was on alert for his surroundings. He couldn't be like Kiara, who acted like she was sightseeing and chatted casually after arriving at the World Tree.
"Mr. Asher, do you dislike people?" Perhaps feeling that Asher wasn't interested in anything she said, Kiara simply switched to asking questions.
"I like them, but it depends on the person," Asher said. "I like Shishou and Mother, and my Sister. Of course, I can't like enemies."
"Our thoughts are completely different indeed. I like everyone," Kiara chuckled.
"You only like yourself, right?" Asher retorted. The laughter stopped abruptly, leaving only the sound of hooves. After a long pause, a hint of coldness crept into her gentle voice: "Is liking oneself not a normal thing? Does anyone dislike themselves? It's just that I often need to use kindness to save some believers, although this kindness is merely hypocrisy."
"Even if your kindness to others is fake, it doesn't matter. If you can pretend to like others, you're already qualified as a nun," Asher said.
"Even if this kindness is false, it doesn't matter, right?" Kiara murmured.
"...Provided you know how to control your desires," Asher added, although he didn't think Kiara would listen to his guidance, as her philosophy was to unleash desires freely.
"Is that a form of guidance for me?" Kiara chuckled softly. "I think what you said makes a lot of sense. Whether it's hypocrisy or not, as long as it's not discovered, it will always be true kindness."
Asher looked at Kiara with a hint of surprise. He was beginning to lose his grasp on her depth. From her current words and actions, there was no trace of a "Beast" at all; he didn't feel any madness in her words. Of course, it could just be a disguise.
Kiara continued, "But completely unleashing desires is also a way"
"Shh." Asher suddenly raised a finger to his lips, and Kiara's voice stopped abruptly. "Do you hear something?" Asher turned his head, asking in a hushed tone.
"What?"
"The sound of a river," Asher whispered. He suddenly realized, to his horror, that it had become foggy at some point. Kiara truly hadn't lied to him; once inside, they indeed needed to hold hands to avoid getting separated. The white horse they were riding began to go wild. Its eyes had turned red at some point, and it constantly thrashed its body. After throwing Asher and Kiara off, it charged through the fog and disappeared.
Asher quickly steadied Kiara, who had fallen off the horse with him, then surveyed the surroundings. As if realizing something, his eyes slowly widened.
"What is this place?" Kiara was also looking around, but she couldn't see anything; the surroundings were
completely shrouded in mist.
"It should be the Land of Mist," Asher said softly.
"The Land of Mist?"
"That is, Nibelungen. This is the legendary Land of the Dead."
