Chapter 99 - Princess Kaelira

The frozen moon hung low over the ruins of the Obsidian Vale. Crimson mist coiled at Ren Zian's feet as he stepped into the crumbling courtyard, each footstep echoing like a war drum through the silence. His body bore the marks of the last battle—the scorch across his left shoulder, the cracked Chaos Sigil still pulsing faintly along his ribs. But his grip around the obsidian-forged spear was steady, eyes locked ahead.

The battle with Serakar had taken its toll.

But more than wounds, something else gnawed at his spirit.

"You feel it too, don't you?" Caelis's voice echoed in his mind. "The scent of divine blood... but twisted."

Ren didn't reply. He had felt it the moment he crossed the veil into this cursed dominion. The next soul wasn't just hidden. She was imprisoned—bound by an oath that reeked of betrayal.

He pushed open the fractured gates. A massive statue of a woman with chains across her mouth loomed over the throne room. A cracked plaque beneath read: Princess Kaelira, Keeper of Silent Flame.

As he stepped inside, the chains of the statue rattled.

A whisper flickered through the room.

"Leave."

It wasn't a voice. It was thought woven in flame.

The Chaos Sigil on Ren's chest flared. His vision blurred for a moment, and then she appeared—hovering near the throne like a ghost of fire. She was draped in molten silk, eyes glowing like twin embers trapped beneath ice.

Princess Kaelira.

But she wasn't alone.

A ripple in space behind her cracked open, and from it stepped a tall figure dressed in priest-king robes. His features were beautiful, almost divine—golden hair, silver eyes—but his aura was rotten beneath the surface.

"You've come far, Zian of Chaos," he said smoothly. "But the Silent Flame belongs to me."

Ren's fingers tightened around the spear.

The system blinked: [New Villain-Hero Detected: Therion, Chained Saint of Celestial Order.]

Kaelira raised her hand weakly, but chains of golden light coiled around her wrist. Her power... was being drained.

Therion's smile widened. "You don't understand, do you? Each of these 'heroines' you seek—they were never meant to be free. They were offered to gods as instruments of order. You're unbinding the world."

"Good," Ren said simply—and lunged.

Their clash sent out a shockwave that shattered the stained-glass dome above. Starfire erupted from Therion's palms, slamming into Ren's spear as the two collided midair. The Chaos Sigil pulsed. Ren twisted in a tight arc, deflecting the blow and flipping over Therion's head, landing behind him.

But the priest-king was fast.

A whip of golden flame lashed from his palm, catching Ren's ankle and slamming him into a pillar.

"You think lust can undo fate?" Therion growled, voice vibrating with celestial fury.

Ren spat blood and grinned. "No. But love can break chains you don't even see."

The words hit something.

Kaelira gasped, her eyes flickering. The chains around her cracked slightly.

Therion roared. He raised both hands, summoning a divine construct—a massive burning spear of judgment.

The Chaos Sigil on Ren's chest flared to blinding crimson.

System Notification: [Emergency Invocation — Bloodfire Bloom Unlocked.] Power Type: Shadow-Enhanced Flame | Source: Lyra's Core Echo]

Flames erupted around him. But these were not normal. They danced in patterns that whispered of pain and devotion. Ren surged forward, carving through the divine spear with his blade of shifting crimson energy.

Therion faltered. His robes caught fire, revealing the darkness writhing underneath—he was no saint. He was a parasite fused with divine relics.

Ren struck again. And again.

Until the priest-king dropped to one knee, snarling.

Kaelira's chains shattered.

She fell into Ren's arms, her body weightless and fever-hot. Her eyes searched his face, uncertain. His hands cradled her cheek, not with lust—but with recognition.

"You remembered me... from the war of the Lower Flame," she whispered. "You... were the one who chose death instead of breaking the vow."

Ren nodded silently.

Therion tried to rise, but the Chaos Sigil lit again.

Kaelira stood. Her voice, when she spoke, rang with the echoes of ancient justice.

"You chained me to your order. Now, feel the flame you tried to silence."

She raised her hand. A torrent of silver fire engulfed Therion. His scream echoed through realms.

The room fell silent.

She turned to Ren.

"You sought my power. But it was never mine alone. It was born from loyalty—and what you did today was more than a battle. It was remembrance."

She walked toward him. Close now. The flames on her skin calmed, her warmth shifting from volatile to intimate. She brushed her lips against his.

The Chaos Sigil pulsed.

System Update: [Power Acquired — Oathfire Mantle: Grants immunity to divine contracts and possession. Bonus affinity with all fire-based dimensions.] Bond Level: 1/5 — Princess Kaelira.

Ren inhaled softly.

But as their lips parted, her forehead rested against his.

"Others are coming," she whispered. "And not all of them seek freedom. Some will want to claim you... or kill you."

Ren's smile returned.

"Let them come."

Far away, across broken dimensions, a new gate stirred open—this time with whispers in the air thick as venom.

And a pair of violet eyes watched.

Waiting.
