“Damien once told me that my family wishes for my happiness above all else,” Chloe said.
Alice nodded fiercely, her words failing her.
“Do you think you could help me believe him?” Chloe’s dark eyes widened as they grew moist with unshed tears, her voice rising in agitation. The eldest daughter of House Verdier, known for never losing her composure, began to sob uncontrollably. “I love him, Alice. He is as dear to me as my own life, perhaps even dearer.”
“Oh, Chloe…” Alice whispered, drawing Chloe into an embrace.
“Please… help me, Alice. Help me save him, I beg you.”
Chloe had never allowed herself to show her raw emotions before Alice, but her tears now soaked through the thin fabric of her sister’s nightgown. After listening attentively to Chloe recounting the events, Alice grasped her sister’s frail arm.
“Whatever it takes, I’ll find out where he is. Just give me a little bit of time.”
