My dearest sister Chloe,
It has been three months since you returned to Swanton. Seeing your photograph splashed across the newspaper caused me such laughter. Throughout the history of Swanton, there has probably never been a king who has displayed such unabashed affection for his queen during her coronation ceremony.
You are trying to smile with all your might in the photograph, but the bewilderment in your eyes is so clear that I could picture the scene vividly.
The headline emblazoned across the page was spectacular: “Presumed Dead, Swanton’s Queen Dedicates Two Years to Fostering Diplomatic Relations with the Duchy of Carter.” You’ve no idea how satisfying I found the sight of Arnaud crumpling the newspaper then and there.
