“You can sleep longer if you wish. I shall remain here at your side,” Damien whispered, his arms still securely wrapped around her.
Chloe took a deep breath, steeling her resolve. She did not wish to burden him further by using her distress as an excuse. She would remain strong and resolute, no matter what rumors the gossip rags might publish today. “Your presence has dispelled my weariness.”
“Even better,” Damien said, a meaningful look in his eye. As his hand reached out to stroke her face, Chloe gently brushed him aside. With a gracious smile, he acquiesced, supporting his head with his hand as he continued to gaze at her. Despite his smile, Chloe was well aware that his eyes were scrutinizing her every movement to gauge her well-being.
