“My days as a scullery maid were nothing but an endless stream of rebukes for being distracted,” Marguerite confided. “They would chide me, saying if I could find the time to arrange my hair at dawn, then I should devote that time to mastering the skill of making pie instead.”

“It was your consistently impeccable appearance that captured my attention,” Chloe replied, her eyes softening. “Even at the grandest balls in Swane, I never saw a noblewoman with her coiffure as exquisitely arranged as yours. I knew immediately that you were the perfect person to assist me.”

Marguerite blinked rapidly before closing her reddened eyes and laughing. “Please let me know whenever you are ready to leave for Swane, my lady.”
