Chapter 5 - Chapter 5 - Seven Days to Scarce

"Hm… what is that smell?" Dave said.

"Smells tasty to me," Chuck replied.

Are you guys already awake?! Breakfast is ready.

Chuck gasped, "You scared me, Rafael."

My bad…

"Did you cook all this? The chicken smells so nice and tastes great too. Not bad — for once you did something great," Dave said while eating.

Is that an insult or a compliment?!

"Depends on how you see it," Dave responded.

"This tastes so good! What do you call this dish?" Chuck asked.

It's buttered chicken. It's easy to make.

Brumble arrives with his workers.

OH! Brumble, there you are. I've been waiting for a while.

"I am very sorry that I'm late. Also, I could only bring a few men because the city suffered from a critical attack last night. They need more manpower to fix the wall," Brumble responded.

It's fine, as long as you guys can finish the construction of my walls.

"Thank you. We will start now." Brumble and his men took the materials to be used for building the wall, and they started the construction.

"Hey, Rafael, I'll go back to the city — just going to check the condition they're in," Dave said.

Sure, also take this money. Buy some food, also a boat and fishing materials.

"Why do we need those?" Dave asked curiously.

Just buy it. I'll explain to you guys later.

"Fine, I'll head out now," Dave left with Dominicus.

Hm… what to do. Oh right, I forgot I haven't even finished the guidebook.

"Um… hey Rafael, I need to go back to the city. I forgot to bring some clothes and my staff," Chuck said.

Alright, just make sure to come back before dark.

"Bye, Rafael," Chuck left.

Let's continue reading this book. What's this? Every 10th day, a champion-type zombie will appear. If you manage to defeat a champion-type zombie, it will drop a treasure chest that contains an artifact that could help you in future battles. I bet the first champion-type zombie we'll face is Scarce. Who knows how strong he will be? The normal type and enhanced are far stronger than a catastrophe-mode zombie, and aren't champion-type zombies supposed to show up every 30 days? Sigh…

"What's with the long face?" a man suddenly spoke.

Huh…? Niccolo? It's nothing. Who are those guys behind you?

"Just like I said last night, I brought my men here. Introduce yourselves to our boss," Niccolo said.

"Boss, my name is Degen, and I'm a long bowman."

"And I'm Seraphina. I'm a sorcerer."

Rafael's jaw dropped. What?! An elf?! A sorcerer?! W-where did you find these guys, Niccolo?!

"On the road, when I was wandering. I just gave them some food, and after that, they just followed me around," Niccolo replied.

Do you know how hard it is to find an elf — let alone a dark elf?

"I don't know… Woah, you're already building the wall for your fortress. Those dwarfs sure work fast," Niccolo said.

Yeah, I hope they finish the walls fast. The real battle will begin within a few days. We need a wall to protect ourselves. A champion-type zombie will appear within 7 days. I'm sure he'll be the strongest one we'll ever face — for now.

"So that's why you've been worried since earlier. Fret not, my friend. I haven't even lost a battle yet. I hope that champion-type, whatever you say, entertains me. I'm looking forward to our battle," Niccolo replied.

Sure thing. Destroy them, Niccolo.

"Well, that's the spirit. Well, I'm going to train now. Hey Degen, Seraphina, let's spar," Niccolo said.

Degen and Seraphina both replied in unison, "Okay!"

I forgot — I haven't checked their stats. I hope their stats are off the charts.

[Name: Degen] [Class: Long Bowman] [Nobility: Knight] [lvl: 13]

Bloodline: Dark Elves 100%

Str: S+

Dex: SS

Agi: A+

Vit: A+

Int: S

Will: A+

Traits

Agile - Plus 5% Agi

Thrill - Plus 10% Str, 5% Will

War God Mark - Plus 15% Str, 10% Vit

[Skills]

Bullseye - Precise hit on enemies.

Shadow Steps - Cancels the noise of footsteps.

Her stats are off the charts! What will happen if she transcends? Same for Dave and Chuck. The more strong allies, the better. Hm… how strong is the sorcerer?

[Name: Seraphina] [Class: Sorcerer] [Nobility: Knight] [lvl: 16]

Bloodline: High Elves 100%

Stats

Str: D

Dex: C

Agi: A

Vit: C+

Int: S+

Prodigy - Plus 15% Int

Blessing of Life Mark - Plus 20% Vit, 5% Will

[Skills]

Infernal Flames - Flames that cannot be extinguished until the target dies

Explosion Bombardino - Bombards the enemies

What! Those skills are overkill! It's really convenient having a sorcerer on the team. Well, time to read the book again. What's this? My class has a guide? Oh! I can register my allies so they can receive the buff from me. How does registration work? Hm? Oh, there it is — double-tap the character details to be registered. Who should I choose… oh, Niccolo.

Rafael double-taps Niccolo's character details.

What's that — a commander? I didn't see that in the book. Let me check where it is… Commander… commander… I see! Here it is: you can make an ally a commander-type unit. You can assign troops under their command. Woah — pretty neat. I'm going to make Niccolo a commander. Oh, I forgot to register the two elves.

Now that I'm done, I should check Brumble's work. Hey Brumble, how's it going?

"It's faster than I expected, to be honest. I think we can finish this tomorrow," Brumble replied.

That's good news. Can I ask you — how much would the second wall cost?

"At least 30 gold coins, if you want it to be the same good quality."

Ok. I want you guys to start after finishing the first wall. Is that good?

"It's fine for us, as long as you pay us money."

The sun is setting. Why are Chuck and Dave still not here?

"Rafael, we're going back now. We'll continue this tomorrow," Brumble said.

Sure. Be careful on your way back.

"Hey Rafael, these two will showcase their abilities later," Niccolo said.

Fine by me. They can attack the zombies in the bastion. It's quite useful — they have more vision.

"Where is the crybaby and the other dude? Why aren't they here yet? It's almost nighttime," Niccolo wondered.

You mean Chuck and Dave? I don't know either why they're still not here. It's already getting late, but don't worry — I'm sure they'll be fine.

"I'm not worried about them!" Niccolo sounded furious.

Jeez… don't be mad.

"I am not!"

Then stop shouting. Oh, look — there they are! Hey, you guys! What took you so long to get back? You made Niccolo worried.

"I am not worried!"

"Um… Sir Dave was drunk, making a ruckus in the city. I had a hard time putting him to sleep. Thankfully, I found a caravan and put him and his stuff there. It was quite heavy. Also, his horse was quite a good helper," Chuck said.

Dave, drunk, said, "Well, because a horse is a man's best friend."

Degen replied, "I thought dogs were man's best friend?"

"Who said you that?! He must be drunk when he said that!" Dave shouted, infuriated.

Chuck put him to sleep."No worries, I'll put him to rest." Niccolo knocks the lights out of Dave. "How dare you talk to Degen like that."

Chuck, take him to the caravan. Jeez, he reeks.

Chuck nodded and took Dave to the caravan.

The fog is getting thick now. I didn't expect that they would come sooner than I expected. Now is the time — let's get ready.
