Alyssa didn't sleep. She spent the night in Eleanor's cramped apartment, the two of them hunched over laptops, dissecting the files. Browsing for clues, checking for mysterious transaction and what will provide a solid trail and evidence.
"This doesn't add up," Eleanor muttered, pushing her glasses up her nose. "The money trail leads to Hayes Industries, but the approvals were routed through a subsidiary. Dominic might not have even seen them."
"Poor guy.... He may not even know about it"
Alyssa rubbed her temples. "Or he's covering his tracks."
"Yeah, I don't really think he's that clean" said Alyssa.
Eleanor gave her a look. "You really think he's that good of a liar?"
She paused for a second..... Alyssa didn't answer. She had seen the flicker of genuine shock in Dominic's eyes. But shock could mean many things. Especially for someone like Dominic. He seems too good with techs.
Her phone buzzed an encrypted message from an unknown number.
" You're being watched. Don't go home."
Alyssa's blood ran cold.
Eleanor saw her expression. "What?"
"We need to move. Now."
They barely made it out before the first gunshot shattered the apartment window.
"So soon..." Alyssa muttered.
