Chapter 3 - Playtime

The sweet metallic scent of Anzel's blood filled the air as the thick liquid oozed out from between the creature's mouth. Anzel withered in pain as he struggled to free himself, but the creature's grip was too strong. He gritted his teeth before plunging the knife deep into the havok's neck in a quick burst of strength.

The creature howled in pain and released its grip, giving Anzel the chance to break free. Anzel dodged to the side before firing a rapid burst of bullets. They penetrated the beast but did not seem to affect it. The bullets just sunk into its skin and the gaping hole around the injury sealed itself in mere moments as the creature regenerated.

Although the attack didn't hurt the creature, it made it stumble backward and fall from the side of the tenement onto the burning street below. Anzel felt his heart beating uncontrollably as rain began to fall from the dark clouds above.

He held a wild smile across his face, peering down through the now dissipating smog at the havok's twitching body on the floor. He backed away from the edge to regain his thoughts. Anzel looked behind him into the city beyond, cylindrical-shaped tenements poking through the haze.

For a moment he considered running but the creature had already gained his scent and first-generation Axis gear would only get him so far. He doubted if he could even get past one of the city's many chasms that would lead him into the next city district without running out of power.

With that thought out of the way, he began to think of any weakness the havok could hold. It was only for a short moment but he could have sworn he saw that the creature held two small slits in its face. Slits that Anzel could only guess to be its eyes. I can use that to my advantage. Perhaps blind the creature in order to deliver a fatal blow? No, that won't be possible. The damn thing is immune to bulletsand taking time to aim for such a small window would have devastating consequences.

He then checked the remaining ammo in his gun. One bullet left. He thought before a genius idea formed within his mind. One that would cause him a lot of pain, yes, but it couldn't get any worse than this right? It was a long shot but it could work. It had to work.

One thing was bothering him, however, and that was the fact that the creature had not yet come up to strike at him again. "The kid," he whispered to himself before dashing over to the tenement's ledge once again.

What he saw left him petrified. The small boy who had been following him was now face to face with the Havok below. Something was odd however as the boy seemed to be…Damn it! The hell is that kid thinking?! Anzel cursed to himself as he saw the boy slowly approaching the creature; the very creature that had once been the boy's little sister.

"Hehe! Big brother! Big brother! Are you here to play with me too?" The creature roared in its unnaturally high-pitched voice. It was ecstatic to see its brother finally emerging from the shadows to come out and play.

"Big sis, i-it's me. Wha—" The boy started to say before hesitating a little. The creature took one massive step forward and yet the boy did not waver. "Sariza, is that really you?" The creature did not reply, but the boy thought he saw a flicker of recognition in her face. "Do you remember me?" He asked, cautiously taking a step forward.

The creature let out a wide smile, and the boy felt a wave of fear wash over him. "I know you're scared, Sariza. I am too," the boy said, his voice trembling. "But I'm here to help you."

"I want to play, big brother," the creature said. "Come and play with me."

The boy took a step back, his heart nearly pounding out of his chest. "I can't play with you like this. It's not safe."

The creature let out a low growl "I don't want to hurt you, big brother," the creature said. "I just want to play." The boy took another step back, his hands trembling.

"I can't play with you Sariza. I'm sorry."

That was when the creature grew furious. It took two massive steps forward, just inches in front of the boy's face. For a moment Anzel thought that the creature would rip the boy to shreds that instant, but for a long moment nothing happened. Anzel moved in a flash, leaping off the edge and landing on the city street safely by slightly shifting his gravity upwards to slow his fall. Just as he was about to bolt toward the boy, the creature spoke again.

"Boring," it said in a long drawn-out voice that sent chills racing down Anzel's spine.

The creature then opened its mouth so wide that it encompassed the boy's entire head. Wet saliva showered down on the boy's face as he simply stood there, the empty shell of a human. The creature sank its teeth down into the boy's neck with a loud sticky pop as blood sprayed in any which direction, some of it landing upon Anzel's face.

The creature's gnashing teeth were now painted red with the blood of its brother. It pulled away from the soft slender body of the boy, tearing out the bloodied spine and slurping it down like a noodle. The spine's outline made a clear appearance as it slowly slipped down the creature's wrinkly throat. It smiled once more.

"Yummy!" The creature let out through the thick pool of blood in its mouth.
