He met it clean, and for a split second it was in the top corner.
Then Donnarumma went full length across his line and got the fingertips of his right hand to it. The ball flicked up off his glove, over the bar and onto the roof of the net.
"And what a save from Donnarumma!" Clive Tyldesley said. "That was in."
The away end groaned. The City fans clapped the save, and a fair few of them clapped the cross as well.
"That's De Bruyne," said Rob Green. "How many times have we seen that ball from this gantry? Pace on it, curl on it, Højlund's done nothing wrong with the header. Donnarumma's just stretched every inch."
De Bruyne jogged over to take the corner at the North end stand, and the applause went with him. It was an odd sound. Everyone in the stand wanted the corner cleared and Napoli beaten, and they clapped him all the way to the flag anyway. He glanced up at them, gave a small lift of the hand, and set the ball down in the arc.
