Chapter 35 - Yearning XXXV: Averted

[The warehouse shook as the battle erupted between Reina, Ryou, Shin, and the three Arches-Yvach, Steag, and Irisyvell.]

[Reina moved with fierce precision, her gunfire slicing through the shadows, forcing Yvach to shield himself behind a pillar of raw energy.]

Yvach: gritting his teeth

You won't break me that easily.

[Ryou charged at Steag, whose agile movements made him a difficult target. The two exchanged a flurry of brutal blows-steel against raw power-with Ryou using his strength and tactical instincts to land critical hits.]

Steag: smirking

You're tougher than I thought.

[Shin faced off against Irisyvell, whose dark aura seemed to suck the light from the room. The two clashed in a dazzling display of speed and skill, each strike echoing with deadly intent.]

Shin: determined

I won't let you win.

Irisyvell: cold smile

You have no idea what you're up against.

[Despite the overwhelming power of the Arches, Reina, Ryou, and Shin pressed forward-every shot fired, every strike landed, a testament to their unwavering resolve.]

[The fight was brutal, the air thick with energy and tension, as both sides fought for dominance in the heart of the warehouse.]

[Amid the swirling chaos of energy blasts and clashing steel, Reina kept her eyes sharp, analyzing every movement of her opponents. Despite Irisyvell's overwhelming presence and aura, Reina sensed something-a brief hesitation in the Arch's otherwise flawless assault.]

Reina: thinking There... a flicker. Just for a second.

[Irisyvell unleashed a sweeping strike of dark energy, but the attack slightly overextended-her balance shifting just a fraction too far forward.]

[Without hesitation, Reina lunged, her weapon aimed precisely.]

Reina: focused, determined

Now!

[She fired a direct, powerful shot that caught Irisyvell off-guard, hitting her squarely in the shoulder. The impact forced Irisyvell to stagger back, a rare crack in her cold composure.]

Irisyvell: growling softly

You're bold... but this isn't over.

[Reina steadied her breathing, readying herself for whatever came next, knowing she had seized a crucial advantage.]

[Still reeling from Reina's precise strike, Irisyvell narrowed her eyes and glanced sharply at Yvach and Steag.]

Irisyvell: commanding

Pull back. We've pushed too far here. Gather everything-arms, data, and the mechanical core. We relocate to the next site immediately.

Yvach: gritting his teeth

Retreat? After all this?

Steag: snarling

You're letting them slip away?

Irisyvell: icy calm

This isn't a defeat. It's strategic. We live to fight another day-and on our terms.

[Without hesitation, the two Arches signaled their forces to withdraw, hastily securing crates and important devices.]

[The warehouse buzzed with the frenetic energy of a rapid evacuation, as the mafia syndicate prepared to vanish into the shadows once more.]

[Ryou lunged forward, determined to intercept the fleeing Arches.]

Ryou: You're not getting away that easy!

[But before he could close the distance, Steag produced several small, sleek devices from his belt-smoke bombs glowing faintly with an unnatural hue.]

[With a swift flick, he hurled them onto the floor, and thick, swirling smoke rapidly filled the area, choking the vision of everyone nearby.]

Steag: smirking

Time to disappear.

[Coughing and blinded by the sudden fog, Ryou stumbled back, frustrated.]

Ryou: shouting through the haze Damn it! They're slipping through!

[Shin moved swiftly beside him, shielding her eyes as the smoke thickened.]

Shin: We need to regroup and track their trail. They won't get far.

[As the smoke lingered, the sounds of hurried footsteps and crates being hauled away faded into the distance-leaving the officers grasping at the vanishing shadows of their enemies.]

[As the thick smoke slowly began to dissipate, the officers coughed and wiped their faces, frustration and tension heavy in the air.]

Ryou: gritting his teeth

We almost had them...

Shin: still scanning the area

They slipped right through our fingers.

[Reina stepped forward, her voice steady and authoritative.]

Reina: Enough. We did everything we could. This was never going to be an easy takedown.

[She looked each of them in the eyes, her calm resolve grounding the group.]

Reina:

They retreated because they know we're coming. That means we're making an impact. We'll find them again, and next time, we'll be ready.

[A brief silence fell, the weight of her words settling in.]

Reina:

Let's regroup and plan our next move. For now, we hold the ground we've gained.

[Slowly, the tension began to ease as the team absorbed her confidence.]

[Amid the crackling tension of their clashing weapons, Sera and Leviathan circled each other, each strike punctuated by the weight of their words.]

Leviathan: voice cold, eyes piercing You don't understand what's at stake. Trust me, and I can show you the truth beyond this endless fight.

Sera: gritting her teeth, dodging a swift strike Trust you? After everything they have done? You've only ever fed to their chaos and lies.

[They collided again, the impact sending a shockwave through the warehouse.]

Leviathan:

And yet, you follow their orders blindly. How is that any better?

Sera: fierce, steady

Because I fight for a future where people don't have to suffer under your shadow.

[Leviathan's expression flickered, a hint of pain beneath his cold exterior.]

Leviathan: You think your way is the only way? You're too naive.

Sera: eyes blazing

Maybe. But I'm about to change your mind. Completely.

Leviathan: And what do you mean by that?

[With a sudden burst of speed, Sera closed the distance, baton crackling with raw energy. Their fight intensified - not just a battle of strength, but of wills and convictions.]

[Amid the whirlwind of blows and sparks, Sera's voice cut through the clamor-steady, almost pleading beneath its strength.]

Sera: Leviathan... you don't have to be chained to this. You can free yourself-stop being the monster they made you out to be.

[Leviathan parried, eyes narrowing, the usual smirk replaced by something heavier.]

Leviathan: bitterly

And you're pursuing me now, huh? From what? From everything I've become since?

Sera: firm

From the pain, the lies, the endless cycle they gave us. You're more than their pawn. More than this war.

[For a moment, Leviathan's guard faltered. His grip on his weapon loosened just slightly, a flicker of doubt breaking through.]

Sera: stepping closer, voice softer but fierce

Let go of the past. Fight with me, not against me. Together, we can change everything. I... don't want to fight you through the last.

[The space between them pulsed with unspoken truths - a fragile bridge in the midst of their fierce battle.]

[The tension between them crackled, weapons locked as Leviathan's eyes searched Sera's face, disbelief and something deeper swirling within.]

Leviathan: voice strained, almost vulnerable

Why do you even worry about me... after all this time?!

[Sera's breath hitched, but her gaze never wavered. Her voice was fierce, raw, and honest.]

Sera: Because... because you're too important and I love you for that, idiot!!

[For a moment, Leviathan faltered-his grip loosening, the fierce edge in his eyes softening just a fraction.]

[The battle around them paused, if only briefly, as that truth hung between them like fragile glass.]

[Sera's eyes softened, but her voice remained resolute as she stepped closer, the weight of her words cutting through the chaos around them.]

Sera:

Ever since I was trapped in that hellhole, you were the only one who cared for me-even after Seraph left.

You were my only hope, the one I trust, Ren.

[She took a deep breath, determination shining through the pain.]

Sera:

If I can free myself, so can you.

I can help you. I want you to reach your own freedom... together.

[Leviathan- now known as Ren Mizushima, his expression flickered, the conflict raging in his eyes-caught between the darkness of his past and the fragile light Sera offered.]

[Leviathan's hardened expression softened, a long, low breath escaping him as if a weight he'd carried too long was beginning to shift.]

Ren:

You... always were stubborn.

Maybe... maybe I've been fighting the wrong battle all along.

[He lowered his weapon slightly, eyes meeting Sera's with a flicker of vulnerability.]

Ren:

If you truly believe there's a way out... then I'm willing to listen. But! That doesn't mean I'll side you up.

[For a fleeting moment, the fury of the fight paused - replaced by something fragile, yet powerful: hope.]

[He glanced toward the distant sounds of retreat-the muffled orders and hurried footsteps of the Arches pulling back.]

[Turning sharply, he called out with authority to his fellow elite.]

Ren:

Fall back. The Arches are retreating. We regroup and plan our next move.

[As Leviathan gave the order to retreat, the elite pawns exchanged sharp, annoyed glances.]

Kria: folding her arms, voice icy

This isn't how we end things. We should finish this now.

Lilith: coldly

If Leviathan hesitates, it only weakens us all.

NeRu: quiet but sharp

Delay only gives them more chances to strike back.

[Despite their irritation, the elites reluctantly began to pull back, their movements tense and eyes burning with frustration.]

[As the elite pawns began their withdrawal, each cast a sharp, chilling warning over their shoulder toward their foes.]

Kria: voice icy, piercing

Enjoy your temporary victory. We'll be back-and next time, there won't be mercy.

Lilith: smirking coldly

You think this ends here? You're only delaying the inevitable.

NeRu: calm, almost whispering

Be ready. The shadows you hide in will become your prison.

[Their words hung heavy in the air as they vanished deeper into the darkness, leaving behind an uneasy silence.]

[The dust settled, and the heavy silence weighed down on the group.]

[Kei dropped to one knee, panting hard, sweat streaming down his face from sheer exhaustion.]

[Shirou grimaced, clutching his injured knee, blood trickling through his fingers.]

Shirou: gritting his teeth

This knee... it's worse than I thought.

Shizuka: Shirou!

[Shizuka hurried to his side, eyes wide with concern. She gently placed a hand on his shoulder, her voice trembling slightly.]

Shizuka:

Shirou... you shouldn't push yourself so hard. You need to rest.

[She scanned his face, worried by the pain she saw etched there.]

Shizuka: softly

If you keep going like this, you might make it worse...

[Mio joined in, kneeling beside them with a supportive look.]

Mio:

We all feel it, but you're the heart of this group. Please, take care of yourself.

[Despite their exhaustion, the team's concern for Shirou was unmistakable-a reminder that even in battle, some wounds cut deeper than others.]

[As the vigilantes caught their breath, the sound of approaching footsteps echoed-Reina, Ryou, and Shin arrived on the scene, their faces tense but composed.]

Reina: assessing the situation

Everyone, fall back. We've done enough here for now.

[She turned to the surrounding officers from various factions, who were already moving to secure the abandoned crates and equipment.]

Reina:

Units, focus on confiscating all remaining SoveCle tools and weapons. Make sure nothing valuable slips through.

[The other police factions worked efficiently, sweeping the area and collecting the discarded illegal goods.]

[The team regrouped, knowing that while this battle was over, the war against SoveCle and the Arches was far from finished.]

[Hours passed. The once chaotic warehouse district was now eerily silent, littered with debris and remnants of the fierce battle. The flashing police lights had faded, replaced by the soft glow of the evening sky.]

[The team was back at the Investigation Unit headquarters. A few officers lingered, writing reports and sorting through the confiscated items from SoveCle's operation. The smell of antiseptic hung in the air-proof of the wounds treated earlier.]

[On one of the couches, Shirou sat with his leg bandaged, a slight grimace on his face every time he moved. Shizuka sat beside him, still visibly shaken from the fight, holding a cup of warm tea.]

Shizuka: softly

Does it still hurt?

Shirou: forcing a small smile

I've had worse... but thanks for asking.

[She lowered her gaze, gripping her cup tighter. The memory of him rushing in to protect them flashed in her mind, making her chest tighten.]

[Across the room, Kei was sprawled on a chair, his jacket half-off, looking exhausted.]

Kei: groaning

Man... that was one hell of a day. I swear, these guys are getting more insane by the minute.

[Mio, seated near him with a bottle of water, replied in a calmer tone]

Mio: Insane, yes. But... we held our ground.

[Ryou, Shin, and Reina entered the lounge from the briefing room. Reina's voice was steady but carried the weight of everything that just happened.]

Reina:

Everyone did well today. We've crippled one of their major operations... but the Arches won't stay quiet for long.

[A heavy silence fell over the group as her words sank in. Outside, the night deepened, the city lights shimmering like distant stars-an uneasy calm before the next storm.]
