Petra vigorously shook her head to clear her thoughts. She knew what she had to do as a last resort to preserve her life.
Taking a deep breath, she approached the tall bookshelf beside her bed and pushed it aside.
The seemingly fixed bookshelf silently slid open, revealing a small iron door.
A smile crept across her sweat-drenched lips as she pulled out a book from the shelf, causing the iron door to open quietly and reveal a narrow, intricate passage inside.
Liepherr Castle’s secret passage was as thorough and complex as the one in the palace, if not more so, and except for immediate family members, no one knew about it.
Petra slowly stepped into the passage and reached out to grab the iron door again.
“Stop.”
However, a low and calm voice from a woman Petra knew too well came from behind her, making her suddenly freeze in place.
