Adrianne chuckled and shook her head. “You are wrong on many accounts. I don’t want a spouse, you see, and most importantly, the tarnishing of my reputation is something I wanted to happen.”
Nox furrowed his brow. What kind of woman would refuse a good husband and willingly damage her reputation? Apollonia was a rare case, but why would her attendant feel the same way?
“That way, I could avoid a certain someone…”
Despite her relaxed composure before, a slight shade loomed over Adrianne’s face, one which was hardly noticeable. She seemed struck with fear or remembering some bad memories.
Nox did not push her to reveal who or what was bothering her.
“Also, being able to dedicate your all to someone doesn’t mean you have to give up everything you have for them.”
Adrianne smiled upon seeing Nox. Though the darkness on her face lingered, her voice exuded conviction.
“It just goes to show that your life has meaning because of that person.”
