Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Grasping at Straws and Air

Christopher's POV

"What kind of sick bastard names their kid Christopher?" One of the Cathal brothers said as we got into the car. I was pretty sure it was Colin that said it. As I went into the back seat, handcuffed no less, I retorted back.

"The same sick bastard that was told by the doctor that a boy was coming into the world." I leaned against the back seat and blew the hair out of my face. At least they brought my laptop with us. I thought as I tried to turn to the trunk. But my shoulder was roughly grabbed and I was pushed back onto the seat.

"Eyes front sweetheart," Rory said as he slid away from me. His hot breath on my neck sent chills down my spine. I closed my eyes and imagined him grabbing my throat.

"So do you go by anything else or should we just keep calling you Christopher," Asher said as he looked into the rearview mirror. He was in the driver's seat while Noah was in the passenger seat just staring at me. I could tell he was not going to be my biggest fan here.

I let out a sigh, "Chris is fine by me."

Colin groaned. "And here I was hoping to call you Topher." HE started to laugh. I glared at him wanting desperately to connect my boot to his temple.

"Easy there lass," I moved my gaze away from the twin only to be met by Noah's. "HE might not seem like it, but whatever thought occurred in that pretty little head of yours, I would resist the urge."

I leaned forward. "And what thought do you think I had," I snarled.

His big hands pushed my hair over my shoulders and I gulped as his knuckles brushed my collar bone.

He laughed at the connection. "You were probably thinking about kicking him in the mouth."

Close enough.

"In the temple," I corrected. I continued to stare into his hazel eyes until Noah broke eye contact first.

"Oh, we got a fighter," Rory laughed behind me. I rolled my eyes at the antics of the twins. I knew that they were toying with me and if I tried anything I could have a gun pointed at my temple. Or a knife in my back. So I decided to indulge my curiosity.

"Why do you need me?" I said, trying to get the driver's attention, but he continued to pay attention to the road. I huffed out a breath in frustration as I sat back against the seat.

Great out of one prison and straight to another.

Even though I was restless and tired, I did not want to lower my guard around those four. How knows what could happen the minute I shut eyes. My eyelids were getting heavy as I quickly picked my head up and recovered before anyone noticed, or so I thought.

"Get some sleep back there, banphrionsa. WE have a ways to go before we reach our next destination."

I looked to see Asher looking down at me from the rearview mirror.

"And how do I know that any of you won't try anything?" I glared back at him.

"Well, I am insulted," Colin said with a chuckle. I felt something wrap around my shoulders and pull me close. I move my gaze to the right of me to see Rory pulling my frame into his side.

"No one is going to harm you, lamb. We are a lot of things, but my brothers and I won't take advantage of a slumbering woman."

"Besides, you are worth more to us alive…for now," Noah said as she turned back in his seat.

I could be so lucky.

I thought to myself. But what happens when I become less than face value to these men? I leaned into Rory's shoulder as he wrapped his arm over my shoulder. The scent of green apples, bergamot, and sweat filled my nostrils. I inhaled his scent and I felt myself fall deeper into sleep.

When I woke up, I saw that I was still in the car but, for some reason, we had stopped. I checked my surroundings and noticed that none of the four large men were in the car with me anymore. I looked down to see that I was still in handcuffs, but when I checked the door it was unlocked.

In my haste, I quickly got out and checked all of my sixes. I remembered what my father used to tell me.

Never let your guard down, even for a moment.

I had already broken that rule when I fell asleep on Rory. Before I could make my way, I felt my body suddenly hit the car. I groaned in pain as my body was picked up and slammed again.

"Who the fuck are you," a deep voice shouted. The smell of smoke filled my nose as I gagged at the taste.

I was picked up by my throat and lifted off the ground. When I opened my eyes, smoke was blown into my face, temporarily blinding me.

"I will ask again," this time the brute clasps his callous hand around my throat. "Who the fuck at you," his voice boomed.

I extended my arms up the length of his, trying to claw his hand and arms away from my throat. He kept squeezing into the fact that if he had not blinded me with cigarette smoke I would have lost vision by now.

I can't respond with your meaty paws around my neck asshole. My thoughts flooded trying to think of ways to escape. I went with the first thought and swung my leg up and connected with his chin. In one moment, he stumbled back and released his grip on me. I was in desperate need of air, inhaling and coughing trying to stay awake.

As he charged forward, I lifted my still cuffed hands and swung them together, this time hitting him in the temple. When my vision became clearer, lying on the concrete was a large man a few feet shorter than the twins and 100 pounds more passed out on the ground.

I rubbed my neck hissing when I felt the bruise that would be forming soon. I walked over to the unconscious man and delivered a swift kick to his head. I wanted to make sure he was down for the count.

My breath staggered as I made my way away from the car and to the gated elevator. I did not know where the Cathal brothers were, but at the moment I did not care to wonder. I leaned my head against the wall next to the elevator. Letting, the adrenaline rush died down and the pain resinated in my body. I felt my body slump over as the darkness took over.

Before I blacked out, I could hear a gruff voice speaking in a language unfamiliar to me.

"For fuck's sake. Is she dead?"

"Nope, unconscious and it looks like our unwelcome guest left a bruise on her too."

"Noah."

"Yeah I got it."

"Un-fucking-believable, the bastard comes to our club demanding answers and he fucking does this."

"Well he's dead. Looks like the lamb here gave him a fight. All I had to do was put a bullet through his head."

Sigh. "Get'er up, and take her to the spare room. Don't do anything until we get back."

If this is what I was in for dealing with these four men, I would rather bite the bullet now.
