Chapter 516 - Chapter 516: Meaning

When Lorgar voiced his request,

the figure seated upon the divine throne—Orsaga—glanced down at the kneeling group and let out a casual, amused chuckle.

"Teachings?"

"Very well. What troubles you?"

Despite being a Daemon God, he was not opposed to answering questions.

At his reply, the countless attendants around the hall cast envious glances toward Lorgar and the others.

They knew well that their master almost never lied.

If one could seize this rare chance and ask something truly profound, the reward would be immeasurable.

Ignoring the attendants entirely, Lorgar steadied his breathing and asked, voice trembling:

"Your Eminence, from the moment I gained awareness, I believed that my life would be devoted to my creator. I honored him as my god and lived solely to fulfill that purpose."

"But not long ago… I realized that such thoughts were entirely one-sided. My so-called purpose has been shaken, and I now question the meaning of my own existence."

"So I beg you—tell me.

What is my reason for being?"

Who am I? Where am I? What should I do?

Questions that had tormented philosophers across all ages—questions easy to fall into and hard to escape.

And Lorgar Aurelian, standing before Orsaga, was clearly another victim.

Orsaga listened, crossed one leg over the other, and without a hint of hesitation replied:

"Your purpose—and the purpose of the entire material universe—is very simple."

"In the plainest terms: you are Toys."

"Toys for myself and the other four Chaos Gods."

"That is your greatest meaning."

He spoke without dramatics, without metaphor—only the blunt truth.

"?"

Everyone froze.

Even Lorgar stared in stunned silence, unable to fully grasp what he had just been told.

Orsaga was not surprised.

Their vision was too narrow; even when given the truth outright, mortals and demi-mortals struggled to comprehend.

He snapped his fingers lightly.

Darkness swallowed the hall.

The radiant chamber dissolved into utter blackness—so dark one could not see their own hand.

Only a tiny speck of light shone at the center.

Orsaga stepped down from the throne, approached the speck, and pinched it between his fingers.

"This," he said calmly, "is what your universe looked like billions of years ago—a single mote of light."

He flicked it back into the void.

The darkness slowly peeled away, revealing a vast cosmic vision.

Five colossal figures surrounded the mote.

"Let us begin a new game," one said.

Before the onlookers' eyes, the five beings ignited the speck, watching it swell into a glowing nebula.

They kneaded and stretched the cosmic matter like dough, shaping it to their liking.

A bloated figure scooped a ladle of steaming broth from a cauldron beside him and flung it over the newborn cosmos.

Where the droplets fell, microscopic spores and bacteria began to multiply wildly.

Soon after, primitive flora and fauna emerged.

A winged figure snapped its fingers.

The laws of growth and expansion permeated the universe.

Matter could evolve, adapt, transform—

and life began to change according to its environment.

A towering brute exhaled across the galaxy.

Creatures gained the instinct to struggle and compete, learning to kill and devour to rise higher.

A bird-headed figure murmured a few strange syllables.

Mindless creatures learned to think.

They discovered curiosity, cooperation, creativity.

They were no longer bound to the simple instincts of beasts.

The final figure—a graceful, alluring form—laughed softly.

Her voice dissolved into desire itself, seeding the hearts of all living beings.

From that desire blossomed emotion—love, hatred, jealousy, joy, grief.

Under the slow grinding of time, nebulae became galaxies, galaxies became billions of star systems,

and countless species appeared and vanished.

The vision faded.

The grand hall returned.

Orsaga reclined lazily on his throne, yawning, and spoke:

"That is the origin of your Universe—its creation and its birth."

"No grand conspiracy.

No profound reason.

No inevitable destiny."

"It all began because the five of us… were Bored."

"Your universe is merely our game board."

"Before you existed, we created and destroyed countless Universes. Whenever we grew tired of one, we shattered it and formed another, beginning a new cycle."

"So the meaning of your existence is simple: you are toys."

"If there is anything special about you, it is only this—your Universe attracts more of our attention than others."

He raised his hand.

A shining point of light appeared on his palm.

"This is the location of your universe."

Around it, more lights flickered into existence.

"And these are other Universes."

Lorgar frowned, trying to understand.

"So… we are at the center?"

Orsaga nodded, pleased.

"Correct."

"Your universe is located at the central region among all Universes."

"And unlike the others—if those universes are destroyed, they remain gone. But when your universe is destroyed, it eventually reforms."

"It begins a new cycle on its own."

"That is why we call your universe the material universe, and the others secondary universes."

"Because of this anomaly, the five of us suspect your universe hides some secret."

"But despite countless cycles and endless ages… we have found nothing."

"No matter how many times we reset it, nothing changes."
