Chapter 4 - Young Blood - Chapter 4

Renan woke to a gentle breeze brushing against his body and the warm sunlight on his skin.

He slowly opened his eyes, realizing he was in his soft bed.

The memories of the night before returned to him little by little—everything felt like a dream, and the fact that the sun was touching his skin without causing any pain made him believe that maybe it had all been just that.

A dream.

Or rather… a nightmare.

Fights, deaths, blood. Those were things he had never seen in real life before, and even though he believed it had all just been a bizarre dream, it still left him feeling slightly nauseous. He had truly been like a monster the night before, and his body still felt tired — after all, he had taken quite a beating before Luna rescued him. However, the wounds were already healing quickly.

The boy got up and left his room. He was in his apartment, a small place with only a living room-kitchen combo, a bathroom, and his messy bedroom. But it was somewhat airy, with a large window through which he could see the city.

He turned on the TV just to keep the home from being too quiet and went to the bathroom to take a shower and get ready for the day. It was Monday, so he would have to go to college soon.

There was news playing on the TV, and he didn't pay much attention, but it was clear the broadcast was talking about what had happened the night before.

"Many screams were heard the past night! Criminals and gang members were found dead in alleys and isolated areas with deep wounds. Some say it's the work of a new kind of serial killer, some say that there's a monster on the loose. The police claim it's nothing of the sort and that their investigators will resolve the situation as quickly as possible," said the news anchor. Then the news moved on to something else.

"It... Can't be..." Renan said getting out of the bathroom, his body wrapped in the towel.

He listened to that part of the news. It was oddly similar to the memories he had of the past night. But was just a coincidence.

He tried to make sure of what had happened by grabbing his phone, which was lying in a corner of the couch exactly where he usually left it. He checked his messages and saw that his last conversation had been with Luna, his girlfriend, and that they had made plans to meet up and have some fun.

Renan remembered meeting her. They had both been drinking, even though he didn't really like alcohol, and then she had started talking about vampires and showed him some kind of stone. They'd played around with the idea of making pacts and things like that.

She had even mentioned having a plan to take over the world or something, but that had to be just one of her jokes.

Still, something didn't feel right, and he immediately typed a message asking her what else they had done the night before, because he couldn't quite remember everything clearly.

She replied instantly.

"I turned you into a vampire and we killed another one so you could take control of the city as the true Young Blood of Ravenport." That's what Luna's message said.

The boy laughed to himself... It was exactly the kind of thing she'd say to mess with him. Of course she would say she turned him into a vampire and had him kill the top vampire of the city where they live.

"Sure," he texted, and then sent a little heart emoji.

The girl responded with one back.

"See you tonight," she texted back adding a devil emoji to it.

The boy sighed and then looked around for his backpack — he had to head to college.
