After a long night, Rem returned to his old crumbling apartment after dropping off Himeno—who had passed out—at her apartment
He was drunk, barely keeping his balance, until he stopped at his doorstep. His hand rested on the knob, but he didn't turn it; he just sighed.
"Why are you following me, quan?" he whispered. His alcohol red eyes faded back to normal as he stood up straight, fully alert.
He glanced to the left. At the end of the alley, quan stood there—half of her body shrouded in shadow, the other half glowing faintly under the moonlight.
He noticed the sword at her hip and felt a chill run through his chest. Tsk… this isn't good, he thought.
"Give me the bullet ,rem" quan said, her voice calm and steady.
Rem could've played dumb and said, 'I've got lots of bullets— which one do you mean?'
But even he knew that wouldnt be a good idea. The intent to kill was radiating from her was like a drawn blade near the neck. Any wrong word would mean losing his head in an instant.
"Damn... this is bad. If i Refuse — dead. Try to Stall — dead. Act smart — dead. Run — dead. Give her the bullet — maybe not dead. At first that seems like the sensible play, but I am not someone who takes orders from anyone least of all a half‑monkey like her
. I've got 130 lives left— that's two minutes and ten seconds. How do I kill her? How?'
But first… which bullet does she mean? Is it the one I found on the terrifier corp-
He couldn't finish his thoughts.
Suddenly, he was face to face with his own feet.
His head had been sliced clean off— just as he expected.
He watched his body fall, his gaze still fixed on his legs.
Quan finished it in a single second. She calmly raised her hand and caught the bullet that had flown from his neck before it hit the ground.
But before she could turn around—
Rem's body exploded.
A violent burst of red splattered across the alley like paint. Blood drenched the walls, the pavement, and the air itself.
Quan sidestepped the core of the blast, but the wave of blood still washed over her, thick droplets blinding her for a brief second.
She felt a sharp sting in her fingers— the ones still clutching the pendant.
When she wiped the blood from her eyes, she realized Rem had ripped the bullet from her grasp, tearing off the two fingers that held it.
She barely reacted— only a faint scowl crossed her face. She spat rem blood, then vanished into the shadows.
Rem was already sprinting across rooftops, jumping from one to another, shouting in his head:
"Death... Death... Lil D, can you hear me?"
*Yes. I hear you.*
"Good. I'll sacrifice every life I've got for a weapon that can kill her."
He turned— and saw quan's sword inches from his face.
Just before the blade reached him— Boom!
A sharp sound split the air.
It was a grotesque clump of flesh shaped into a weapon a gun shape to be precise
Almost by instinct, Rem pulled the trigger.
The bullet hit quan in the middle of her waist make red mist burst from the wound.
"tsk" quan scowled as " aaah " Rem clutched his face in agony.
Even after Rem fired, the shot didn't halt her blade. It only staggered her—enough to slow the swing, not stop it. One savage strike cleaved through Rem's lower jaw . He gasped, eyes wide and stunned. Had Rem not fired — or if the weapon had been ordinary — the blade would have taken his head.
Rem watched as his jaw fell on the ground with shock then
He looked at her— quan was kneeling on one knee, clutching her bleeding waist Blood flowed freely down , but her demonic flesh was already stitching itself back together— like time reversing.
Rem didn't waste the chance. He leaped off the building, landing in a heap of trash, then bolted toward the street.
He stopped in the middle of the road, just as a car screeched to a halt in front of him.
The driver got out, furious.
"Are you insane?! Get out of the way— " but he gasped once he saw rem state " what the hell man ! Are you al—"
Before he could finish rem raised his gun at him— Bang!
The man's head exploded.
Rem jumped into the car, muttering under his breath,
"Death… what kind of power is this?"
A faint, clinical voice answered in his head: "Every bullet you fire at her makes her bleed an amount proportional to the lives you've taken."
Rem's eyes widened. " that busted?"
"Not exactly," Death replied coolly. "Half the people you killed were barely out of their mothers' wombs, or were children. So she—or anyone—won't always bleed the same amount."
"That's fair…" Rem muttered, glancing at the rearview mirror—
only to see two glowing eyes staring back at him, pupils shaped like hearts.
"Haaaloweeen!!!" screamed Cosmo, leaping from the back seat.
She wrapped her one arm around his neck, and the other stabbing his throat over and over with a knife, shrieking with every thrust, "Halloween!! Halloween!!"
Rem grabbed the blade mid-swing, seized her by the hair" HOW DARE YOU TOUCH ME YOU FILTHY HELL MONEKY! "and slammed her face into the dashboard. Then he stabbed her— again and again— in the face and neck, until—
a sharp metallic shriek split the air.
The car itself split in half.
The upper frame tore away, crashing into the vehicles behind them in a storm of glass and steel.
Rem knew instantly— quan had cut it.
A heartbeat later, he was airborne, his torso flung through the air before crashing onto the asphalt.
The car screeched to a halt.
Cosmo stumbled out, clutching her face, sobbing hysterically.
"Ha...Halloween! Halloween!"
Quan walked slowly toward Rem's bisected corpse. The bullet meant she's after lay near head. She bent down, picked it up quietly, and turned toward Cosmo—who was crying and shouting Halloween!at once.
"Halloween! Halloween!!" Cosmo screamed, throwing herself into quan's arms.
Quan gently patted her head.
"It's alright... it's alright. He's dead. You're safe now."
Cosmo's eyes met hers. Her face began to heal— then she smiled widely "Hallo—"
Bang!
A bullet tore through quan's neck, shattering Cosmo's face into gore.
Cosmo fell, and quan stood still watching her head remains and her neck dripping like a water tap onto what was left of Cosmo's head.
"Chew on that, you hell monkey!" Rem's voice roared from behind her, clear even through the blaring car horns. His body was regenerating once more.
In a flash, quan appeared before him, sword descending.
Rem smiled, dodged the slash, and pressed his fleshy gun beneath her chin— pulling the trigger.
Her eyes widened, but she blocked the shot with her sword at the last second.
"You really think the same trick works twice?" she said, smirking.
"Heh… death really is the best teacher, dont you think" Rem replied.
Quan grabbed his collar and hurled him into an oncoming car.
He hit the grill head-first, his body mangled beneath the tires, spinning grotesquely until the wreck crashed into another car—
BOOM!
Fire erupted across the street.
People screamed. One bystander pulled out his phone to film—
Bang!
His skull exploded before he could hit record.
Panic spread as they saw the man state his Blood poured down the pavement reaching their feet
"Oi! There's someone in the fire!" shouted another, pointing.
A black figure stumbled out of the flames, skin cracked and charred. The flesh began to knit itself together, new muscle crawling over bone.
it was Rem walking out of the fire naked, his eyes burning in the haze, holding a pulsating gun made of flesh and veins.
He raised it toward the terrified crowd.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Bodies dropped one after another. The sound of gunfire echoed through the inferno.
Tears streamed down Rem's face as he whispered,
"quanxi... how could you do this to innocent civilians?"
He noticed a girl crawling away, dragging her legs that gave up on her from fear, sobbing as she cursed it
He walked up to her, knelt, and pressed the gun to her head.
She froze, looking up at him with wide, terrified pleading eyes—then
her head split clean off.
Rem blinked, stunned.
Then turned—
Quan stood behind him, sword dripping with the poor girls blood
Her face as calm as death.
"I understand your power now," she said coldly. "You steal the lives of those you kill. No wonder you refuse to die—like a damn cockroach. Before I end you, answer one question."
Rem stepped back, his voice trembling. "A–ask."
"Two years ago," she began, "there was a journalist I admired… you could say she was my type. I followed every broadcast, bought every magazine. Then the truth came out—she had been manipulating multiple groups of young men for her own desires, and worse, she was pregnant by one of them.
A few days later, her body was found near a landfill. A bullet in her stomach… and another in her head. At first, they suspected one of her victims , but each had a solid alibi. Rem… you were in that area back then at that time. Did you kill her?"
"Huh?" Rem froze, caught off guard. Then, quietly, he asked, "A pedo - journalist… and pregnant, right?"
Quan nodded.
Rem exhaled deeply, and the words fell from his lips without restraint.
"Then yes. I killed her."
The moment the word left his mouth—
A Dozens of fleshy arrows pierced him in an instant, tearing through his chest and shoulders. His body disintegrated into a cloud of blood and viscera.
'Huh… what just happened?' was the last thought he had before his head exploded into fragments.
Silence.
Quan's hand—still shaped into a bow of flesh and sinew—slowly returned to normal.
"Rem…" she murmured, but there was no answer.
She stepped closer, cautiously, eyes scanning his ruined body.
"I know you're still alive. I've seen how many you've killed. You still have lives left."
She stopped a few meters away, waiting.
Then—
"He's not coming back now"
A soft voice echoed behind her.
Quan spun instantly. Whoever snuck up on her wasn't human. no normal person could sneak up on the strongest Devil hunter like it was nothing
But what she saw made her heart race—
not with fear, but with something else... love ,lust
A tall woman with flowing red hair and golden eyes like a rising sun.
She wore the Devil Hunter uniform, yet her presence felt divine.
"Who are you?" quan asked, drawing her bow hands again.
The woman smiled faintly. "No one important. I just came to collect an important coworker. You don't mind, do you?" She stepped closer, placing her hand gently on quan's cheek.
Quan froze, her eyes averting the woman's piercing gaze.
"N–no, of course not," she stammered.
The woman smiled softly, patting quan's head like she was a well-trained dog.
"Good girl."
Then she walked toward what was left of Rem, kneeling to pick up his remaining heart ,along with the bullet near his head remains
Quanxi hesitated, then called out, "W–wait! Can I at least know your name?"
The woman turned, her smile faint but radiant.
" makima "
