Chapter 5 - First Day

[Novice – Primus]

The best class a student can get into.

Why?

Well... because this class comes with privileges that others can only dream of.

Like earning extra merit points for simple tasks, access to advanced classrooms, and most importantly—receiving a weapon on par with second-year cadets, even as a first-year.

It's definitely good to be here.

But everything good has its downside.

And the downside? This is the class where all the main characters gather. Which means it's also the one most likely to get dragged into chaos—dangerous quests, villain attacks, and dramatic nonsense that could level a city.

You might be wondering:

"Then why was Jake supposed to be in the Obscura class if he's a main character?"

Well… Jake—me—isn't a character from the original webnovel.

Jake was created by the game studio. An original character. A nobody. Just a filler to complete the class selection.

So the fact that I somehow got into Primus?

Yeah. That's weird.

It doesn't make any sense.

Standing in front of the classroom door, Ji-Hyun didn't hesitate. He stepped forward and pushed it open.

"Well... what am I hesitating for?" I muttered. "Let's just go inside."

The moment the door opened, I stepped into a room that could only be described as a dream for any aspiring cadet.

The walls and floors were made entirely of polished white marble, glowing faintly with embedded mana circuits. Those circuits flowed beneath the surface and branched out toward every desk like veins pulsing with magic.

The desks were arranged in five tiers, each row rising higher than the one in front—like an auditorium. Everything felt pristine, elegant, and intimidating.

A classroom built for elites.

It was quiet. Ji-Hyun and I were the first to arrive.

I took a seat in the middle row, right at the edge of the aisle—close enough to blend in, far enough to stay unnoticed.

Ji-Hyun chose the front row. Figures.

[08:01 AM]

Class wouldn't start until [08:30].

So… what the hell was I supposed to do for the next 30 minutes?

"Wait... Why don't I just check the relationship system?"

"System," I muttered.

The Commander class relies on cooperation. Our strength scales with how close we are to our allies.

And that's why this system exists.

___

[Relationship System - Active]

List of Friends:

1. Seo Ji-Hyun — Friend – Lvl. 1

2. …

※Note: Well, it's understandable that YOU only have one friend.

___

Did the system just mock me?

Whatever.

"Well... I'm really curious how strong Seo Ji-Hyun is. Let's check his stats," I muttered.

___

[Profile – Seo Ji-Hyun]

Name: Seo Ji-Hyun [Disguise]

Age: 17

Class: [Hidden]

Rank: [Hidden]

Affiliation: Atlas Academy

Talent: [Hidden]

Relationship: Friend – Lvl. 1

Stats: [Hidden]

※Note: Seo Ji-Hyun does not trust you enough. Build more trust to unlock their stats.

___

"So Friend tier isn't enough to gain Seo Ji-Hyun's trust."

The relationship system uses a tiered structure. Every level-up builds toward the next stage of connection. Once a tier maxes out, it evolves into the next, and the level resets.

Each person has their own threshold of trust. Some may open up when you're still just acquaintances. Others… might not reveal anything until you're practically soulbound.

___

[Relationship Tiers]

1. Stranger Lvl. 1–5

2. Acquaintance Lvl. 1–5

3. Friend Lvl. 1–10

4. Best Friend Lvl. 1–15

5. Trusted Person Lvl. 1–20

6. Bonded Lvl. 1–25

7. Soulbound Lvl. 1–30

___

"I need to make more friends… If Ji-Hyun's the only one on the list, there's no way I'm surviving to the end of the story."

Just then, the door slammed open.

A boy rushed in—blue hair, blue eyes, glasses, and the cleanest uniform I'd ever seen. Like it had been steamed five minutes ago.

And the most noticeable part is his handsome face.

That could only be Ryuma Kento—the sharpshooter.

"Aaaaahhh... I'm late!!"

His voice cracked like someone had just told him his entire family was dead.

It was… dramatic. Too dramatic. He even teared up.

I checked my smartband.

[08:07]

Still early.

"He's being too overdramatic."

Ji-Hyun stood up from his seat and walked toward the panicking Ryuma.

I couldn't hear what they were saying from here, but Ji-Hyun was probably trying to calm him down.

"It sure is a loud morning," I muttered, leaning back in my seat.

I waited a few more minutes until class officially started.

◇◇◇

An instructor entered the room, holding a thick book in his left hand. He had dark skin, white hair tied neatly behind his back, and a piercing emerald eye that scanned the classroom like a blade.

"Good morning, class," he said, his voice thunderous—each word vibrating through the air like it carried weight. "My name is Kaelen Noctar, and I will be your homeroom teacher. I'm ranked 327 overall and 81 in the magician rankings."

The classroom practically jolted to life. Students who had been dozing off snapped awake. A wave of murmurs spread like wildfire.

"Did he say 327 overall!?"

"And 81 among magicians?"

"No way—he's hot and powerful?"

You might think 327 and 81 aren't high ranks—but remember this:

There are around 8 million Heroes in the world, and only 5,000 of them make it into the global rankings. As for magicians? There are only 300,000 in total, and a mere 100 are officially ranked.

So yes—this teacher is considered high-ranked.

"There will be no formal studies today," Instructor Kaelen continued, his voice carrying through the room with an authority that silenced the chatter. "Instead, we will head to the warehouse to choose the weapon you'll be using for the next three years. We will also conduct your overall stat evaluation."

He turned, already making his way out the door. "Get up. Let's move."

Every student quickly rose and began filing out of the room in a line behind him.

"I guess I'll follow for now," I mumbled, sliding out from my table row.

Just as I stepped into the aisle, someone bumped into me from behind. Hard.

I turned to see who it was—a girl, just a few centimeters shorter than me.

She had striking pink hair, with a silver tiara perched atop her head. Her uniform had been custom-modified to resemble a dress, making her look like a noble princess straight out of a fairy tale.

"Ugh... Move!!?" she snapped.

I immediately stepped aside. "Sorry," I muttered.

Only after she brushed past me did the realization hit.

Red ruby eyes. Pale skin. Rose-tinted lips.

There was only one word to describe her: Beautiful.

The kind of beauty that looked like the god themselves had sculpted her with the utmost care.

And I knew exactly who she was.

Elana von Herana.

The Queen of Crimson.

The game's main villainess.

The unplayable character with the most gruesome and tragic endings—and ironically, also the most beloved by fans.

I stood there frozen for nearly a full minute, dumbfounded.

Until Elana snapped me out of it with a sharp glare. "Are you deaf? The instructor has already left the room."

"Ah—right!" I yelped, jolting into motion as I ran out the door.

◇◇◇

After Kylen left, Elana von Herana—now alone in the classroom—let out a long, tired sigh.

"I don't remember seeing that commoner's face on the student list. Who is he?" she muttered.

"Well, he does have a forgettable face. That might be why," she added, smirking like someone who had just mocked the entire world.

With a toss of her hair, she turned on her heel and strode out to join the others at the warehouse.

To be continued…
