Chapter 25 - 24

She always made it so difficult. Every woman on this island would be happy for Caleb's attention. Any other man would have been thrown off by her self-sufficient manners and left her alone, but not him. He needed to try harder, he thought as he put his left hand atop hers. Sylvie looked down at it and tried to move her hand away.

He wouldn't let her move it. Sylvie looked up at him then. She saw the passion in his eyes. His handsome features were lightly dusted with soot from the fire. His hair was disheveled as well as his clothing.

She was pleasantly surprised and overwhelmed at what Caleb had just told her about the bravery he and the Wolf had just exhibited. The animal was so in tune with everything going on on this island. Two coincidences had already occurred. She still didn't want to admit that the Wolf was an omen. The way Caleb was holding her hand and looking into her eyes was something she had dreamed about.

He wanted her just as much, if not more than she wanted him. It was a wonderful feeling to know her feelings if she ever admitted them aloud, would be well received and wonderfully reciprocated. Caleb leaned over. He gently cupped the right side of her face. His thumb gently grazed her full, bottom lip.

Sylvie was shocked by the intimate gesture. He kept making her feel like she was a treasure. The thought of his betrothed, the island Banker's daughter, came to mind. As much as she wanted him, he wasn't hers. He had a bright future.

No matter how much she wanted him now, she couldn't destroy that for him. She knew he wanted her to lean in and let him crush his soft lips atop hers and kiss her madly. Sylvie could not lead him on. It would be cruel. For both of their sakes, she gently touched his hand and moved it away from her blushing cheek.

"You should go." She whispered, scared if she said the words too loud, it would anger him.

She saw the defeated look in his beautiful eyes. He removed his hand and spoke, "Of course, you are always right, my Sylvie. I brought some supplies with me. If you need anything, just send for your friend since he apparently already knows the way." He emptied his satchel on the ground in-between them.

It was an array of supplies. Sylvie was grateful to him.

They both stood up then. He walked towards the door. Sylvie stood a few feet in front of him.

There was a lingering silence that hung between them. Sylvie knew he wanted to say more. She was correct in her assumption when he spoke, "This is my last time coming here."

She somehow knew this was coming.

She waited for him to say more. Then, he did. "Unless we run away together."

Sylvie rolled her eyes at his conclusion. She felt like he was being dramatic. It made her mad. "Goodbye, then Caleb."

He looked stunned at how quickly she had replied with her goodbye. It almost felt like a slap in the face. He lost his cool then and began yelling at her shotgun round questions. "Why? Won't you run away with me?"

"Ugh...This again? Caleb-"

"Dammit, Sylvie! Do you know how much danger you are in? How much danger I'm in?" He exploded.

"Danger? How are we in danger?" She was confused by his panicked admission.

"Because I have been involved in this."

"That's not bad." The expression on his face was letting her know maybe it was. "So, what? You helped kids get out of a fire."

She tried reassuring him that he had done a good deed. Not a foolish one.

"How would I be able to help with the fire if I had never known a fire was being started? Maybe those orphans were supposed to" He didn't finish his dark thoughts. He seemed agitated. He continued. "Maybe I shouldn't have helped you." He looked away.

His words stung. She knew he was scared for her. Sylvie spoke. "Caleb, where would we run? I have no living family outside of this island. Not to mention the mainland is filled with bloodshed and war." She rested her thin hand on his stubbly cheek. "Maybe in another life, you and I would have been able to defeat Fate and be together, but this is not that life. Caleb, you must look out for yourself and your family. I understand."

As painful as that understanding was, she got it? He wanted her the same way she wanted him. It would be too dangerous for both of them to be together. Sylvie knew this was the right thing to do. And suddenly, his lips were crashing down on hers.

She stumbled into his arms and wrapped her arms around his neck for support. He held on to her small waist with his large hands. She was distracted, however, by his kiss. It stole her attention, and the feeling zinged through her body, delivering chills all over. She came to recognize it as lust.

He followed her up against he pulled her up against him. There was no way she could protest she had been caught off guard. And now her brain caught up with her lips. She was enjoying him being a very skilled kisser. Her hands couldn't seem to make fists hit him and push him away.

Both of her extremities were enjoying their current position, which was resting on his broad, sexy, strong shoulders. This was something she had secretly dreamed about. She never thought he would be interested in her in that way. He was proving her wrong with each kiss. He wanted her.

He was burning for her and the kiss they were sharing left little doubt for Sylvie if they were indeed compatible. Her body was responding to him in ways she had never thought possible. Sylvie felt his tongue gently delve into her mouth. The feeling aroused her more. A little moan escaped her lips.

Sylvie knew she should be ashamed of her wanton behavior, but at this moment, she couldn't seem to muster up enough concern. Her hands moved to both sides of his face while his hands slid further down and gently squeezed her bottom. She jumped at the flirty gesture, then giggled at her silly reaction, which broke the kiss. Caleb hadn't known what had taken over him. One minute they were arguing and the next, he found himself kissing her.

He hadn't known how it would go. Sylvie was considered a wildcard, or that's what the islanders believed. Caleb knew better the moment his lips claimed hers. Sylvie melted like rich, creamy butter and tasted just as sweet. Caleb had only meant for it to be a small kiss, but she overtook him.

He found himself seizing the moment. Sylvie reciprocated the kiss. He wondered how far she would want to go. Caleb loved Sylvie and wanted her. If he could take her to bed, he knew there was a high chance he could get her to change her mind and be with him.

All of Caleb's thoughts melted away when Sylvie touched him. He needed her. He kissed her until her lips were red and swollen. He had her pinned against the closed front door now. Sylvie didn't seem to notice or mind.

She was consumed by him just as he was by her. His hands felt good as they wandered all over her body. He enjoyed the thought. Sylvie didn't know if fate would ever smile on her like this again. She wanted Caleb. She finally admitted the realization to herself with no guilt.

This was something they both wanted. Caleb gently yanked her tunic out of her trousers. Sylvie watched as recognized the immense pleasure he was taking in undressing her. When he saw she wasn't going to protest, he undid her trousers.

The flirtatious grin on her face made her irresistible to him. Caleb kissed her again. Sylvie hungrily kissed him back. He slid his hand inside of her trousers and found her sweet place. It was wet and ready for him. That realization turned him on instantly. Sylvie was shocked by his hot brazen touch. What was he doing to her?

No one had ever touched her there. She moaned into his mouth as his fingers worked magic on her sweet spot. Sylvie couldn't control the waves of pleasure that seemed to be crushing her. She was overcome by the sweet rhythmic sensation. So she succumbed to it.

Caleb was skilled. She was no match for his hands...

The Manor

Adolf sat in his study thinking about the woman who was once his lover but now his prisoner. Madame Sonia Bouvier. Seeing Bouvier here under these circumstances angered him and made him think about when he had first been injured. He had begged his son to have her come. It was to no avail.

She was too busy cozying up to the Lycans to comfort the man who loved her. Thinking back on it, loving Sonia had never been a part of the plan. They had met by chance.

He had watched her and was taken aback at how captivating and smart she was. Not to mention she was extremely beautiful. At the time, there was war. It was only a simmer compared to what it was now. He had lost quite a lot of men as well as weapons and artillery.
