Chapter 24 - Chapter 24: Reconstruction and Conspiracy

After repelling the attack of the powerful enemy, the whole base started the tense reconstruction work. The team members dragged their tired bodies, but their eyes were full of determination. The researchers first summarized and improved the new - type energy bomb, hoping to make its power even greater. And the other team members began to repair the damaged defensive fortifications and facilities.

"Captain, the defensive fortifications of the base need to be redesigned. Although the previous ones blocked the enemies, they also suffered a lot of damage," Kevin said while directing the team members to carry materials.

I nodded. "Yes, we should combine the experience of this battle to design a more solid and targeted defense system."

With the joint efforts of everyone, the reconstruction work of the base was progressing smoothly. However, just when we thought everything was getting better, Lynn brought bad news.

"Captain, when I was monitoring the electronic signals, I found some strange signs. It seems that there is a mysterious force secretly monitoring us," Lynn said with a frown.

My heart tightened. "Could it be that the powerful force has a new conspiracy?"

In order to find out the truth, I arranged for Lynn to continue monitoring the signals and sent some team members to scout around the base.

A few days passed, and the scouting team members didn't find anything abnormal. But Lynn had a new discovery.

"Captain, I found that the source of these mysterious signals seems to be inside the base," Lynn's words surprised me.

"Immediately investigate the inside of the base to see if there is a traitor," I gave the order.

The team members began to carefully investigate every corner of the base. Finally, in a hidden room, we found some suspicious devices. These devices were sending out signals.

"It seems that there is really a traitor. Lynn, see if you can trace the signal receiver," I said.

Lynn quickly had the result. "Captain, the signal receiver is the powerful force."

We immediately interrogated the people in the base and finally found the traitor. It turned out to be a researcher who had only worked in the base for a short time. He was bribed by the powerful force and was responsible for passing on intelligence to them.

"Why did you do this?" I asked angrily.

The researcher lowered his head. "They promised me that as long as I helped them pass on intelligence, they would give me endless wealth and power. I was temporarily blinded by greed and agreed to them."

I sighed. "You're so stupid. For a little personal gain, you betrayed your companions and the base."

We controlled the traitor and strengthened the security measures of the base to prevent similar things from happening again.

However, the powerful force didn't stop their actions just because the traitor was discovered. It seemed that they were brewing a bigger conspiracy.

One day, there was news that some strange phenomena had appeared in a town near the base. Many residents had been infected with a strange disease and became extremely weak.

"Captain, should we go and have a look?" Tom asked.

I thought for a moment. "Go and have a look. Maybe this is related to the powerful force."

We took some medical staff and supplies to the town. The town was in a mess, and the residents were groaning in pain.

The medical staff immediately examined the patients and found that the disease was caused by an unknown virus. Moreover, this virus seemed to be highly contagious.

"Captain, this virus is very tricky. We don't have an effective treatment method at present," a medical staff member said.

Just when we were at a loss, I suddenly thought of the scientific and technological materials in the ruins. Maybe there would be some information about this virus in them.

I immediately arranged for the researchers to go back to the base to look for the scientific and technological materials. At the same time, we set up a quarantine area in the town to prevent the virus from spreading further.

After several days of searching, the researchers finally found some clues about the virus in the scientific and technological materials. It turned out that this virus was a biological weapon developed by the powerful force, aiming to weaken the strength of our base.

"Captain, we can develop an antidote against the virus according to these clues," the researchers said excitedly.

So, the researchers worked day and night and finally developed an antidote against the virus. We distributed the antidote to the residents in the town, and soon, the patients' conditions were under control.

Through this incident, we became more clearly aware of the insidiousness and treachery of the powerful force. They would stop at nothing to destroy our base.

"Captain, we can't just sit and wait for death anymore. We should take the initiative to attack and teach them a lesson," Kevin said.

I looked at the determined eyes of the team members. "Yes, we can't always be beaten passively. Formulate a detailed combat plan. We'll let them know that our base is not easy to mess with."

In the following days, we began to prepare for the active attack. The team members had more rigorous training, and the researchers were also constantly developing new weapons and equipment. A new battle was about to come.
