Chapter 1 - Distorted Memory

Yousef woke up in the hospital, remembering only that he had been in the forest. His wife entered the room, crying and apologizing, but he couldn't understand why she was apologizing—or why he felt such heavy emotions toward her.

Sarah approached Yousef, but before she could speak, the doctor entered the room and told her that Yousef had memory loss. He only remembered that he was married and had children. Sarah's expression shifted, and she stopped apologizing. The doctor left the room.

Yousef: Why were you apologizing?

Sarah: I don't know… I thought you were angry with me.

Yousef: And why would I be angry? What happened before I ended up in the hospital?

Sarah: Just rest for now, my love.

Yousef: Were we fighting?

Sarah: Yes… but it doesn't matter now.

Yousef: Why were we fighting?

Sarah: The doctor said you need to rest.

Visiting hours ended, and Sarah left. He fell asleep.

He awoke to the sound of the TV, which had been left on. As he opened his eyes fully, he saw a man sitting on the chair by the window, wearing a mask that completely covered his face.

Startled, Yousef asked:

Yousef: Who are you? Do I know you?

The masked man: Maybe.

Yousef: What?

The man: No, we haven't met in human form. But yes—we met when you were a wolf.

Yousef: I've lost part of my memory, but I'm not stupid.

The man: I'm the wolf who bit you.

Yousef (with a sarcastic tone): So now I'm a werewolf?

The man: You can become a wolf—or any other animal—if you wish.

Yousef: Then I want to turn into a bird. (mockingly)

The man: You can. Just close your eyes and imagine what you want to be.

Yousef did as the man said. He transformed into a bird for a moment, flying around the room before returning to his human form. His breath quickened, and he stared in disbelief, unable to comprehend what had just happened.

Suddenly, a knock interrupted the moment. The door opened, and his wife entered, her eyes fixed on the masked man.

Sarah: Yousef, who is this?

Yousef: Umm… a friend.

Sarah (smiling faintly at the stranger): Yousef never mentioned you.

The man: We met recently.

Then he added:

The man: Well then… goodbye.

He left the room.

Sarah: You never told me you had new friends.

Yousef (calmly): That's not important now… Tell me about us. About our family. Were we happy?

Sarah (smiling faintly): Yes, we were. We have two beautiful children—Adam and Eva.

Yousef (sighing, eyes clouded with doubt): Then… why do I feel like things weren't right between us?

Tension crept into his features, his lips trembling, though his handsome face remained intact.

Sarah (softly): Every family has good days and bad ones, Yousef…

Yousef (looking directly at her): But… why were you apologizing that day? What happened?

Sarah (averting her gaze, a tear falling silently): Please… just stop. It was just a simple argument… and…

Something didn't sit right with Yousef. A sense of unease haunted him whenever he tried to remember that mysterious day.

Before Sarah could continue, the doctor entered. The room grew heavy with silence.

He smiled a forced smile and addressed Yousef:

Doctor: You're lucky—Mrs. Sarah cares about you a lot.

The doctor gave him a quick checkup, then left the room without another word. Sarah followed him a few seconds later, her eyes still lingering on Yousef as if she wanted to say something… but couldn't. She walked out behind the doctor, leaving Yousef alone in the room, surrounded by suffocating silence and unanswered questions.

He whispered to himself:

Yousef: "Something doesn't add up… her smile, her tears, and this foggy memory… was it really just a simple fight?"
