The sound slithered across the ruined streets like a serpent dragging its burning tail. Ash drifted through the air in lazy spirals, glowing as it caught the reflection of the distant inferno.
Essa and the others looked at the glowing yellow flames that devoured everything as it slowly moved toward them. The heat kissed their skin from afar, not enough to hurt yet, but enough to warn them that it would swallow the whole world if left unchecked.
"I… I forgot this," Essa muttered with slight disgruntlement as she looked at Azrael, who had come down from the building, as she said with a serious face, "It's not only here. The whole province was surrounded by the flames and slowly approaching the middle."
Everyone's face turned dreadful. The creeping fire cast their silhouettes long and distorted, as if the flames were pulling at their souls.
