In Jingyuan City, three middle-aged men in casual clothes exchanged looks, nodded once, and moved without hesitation, following the faint trace of false reiatsu that pointed thirty degrees north. Gu Jiu Tuozhen, leader of the small mixed-blood Quincy squad, lived by the ancient creed of purging Hollows without mercy, and although life for their kind had grown harsher over the years, the moment they found a Hollow, the hunt was inevitable. This time, their quarry had led them to Jingyuan City. Tuozhen summoned his team, gathered arms, and within half an hour they had cornered their prey—a massive serpent-like Hollow whose brutal form belied a resilience far above the norm. Even under their coordinated assault, it clung to life far longer than expected until a perfectly placed Heilig Pfeil pierced its vital point, shattering half its body.

Battered but neither cowed nor submissive, the serpent twisted defiantly as Tuozhen drew his spirit bow for the killing shot—only for the space behind it to fracture into a rift of endless darkness. The three Quincy froze, taken aback by the unnatural phenomenon, and in that heartbeat the serpent slipped its broken body into the void. None of them had seen such a thing before, and the rift's silent, pulsing presence sent a faint unease crawling up Tuozhen's spine. One companion guessed it might be the Hollow's unique ability; another, brimming with recklessness, suggested they finish the job regardless. Despite his instincts urging caution, Tuozhen followed his team into the lightless interior, comforted only by the open portal behind them, and pressed deeper until the black swallowed them whole.

Moments later, hooded figures in black cloaks appeared near the rift, two silver masks glinting beneath the shadows. "How reckless," one murmured, while another noted that it was a miracle these Quincy had survived so long under Seireitei's pursuit. A third figure stepped forward—Tousen Kaname—calmly stating that the bait was set and they need only wait for the Quincy to bite. Ichimaru Gin's grin curved wider at Tousen's unusual patience, and when Tousen credited Captain Aizen, Gin chuckled softly, remarking that they owed their thanks to the man. Before them, the black passage spread outward in perfect concealment, its presence unnoticed even by the stationed Shinigami in Sakaihara City who was already locked in desperate battle with a grotesque Hollow, cursing its unnatural strength.

Far away in Soul Society, news of Hirako Shinji's return rippled through Seireitei, the reappearance of a captain-class Shinigami sparking talk of a partial reshuffle within the Gotei 13. What few expected was Shinji's quiet entry into the 10th Division as an ordinary member, a move that set off a storm of speculation—some claiming it was repayment to Captain Moyu for saving his life, others insisting it was disciplinary oversight, and the most absurd attributing it to some tangled romance. Moyu ignored the rumors entirely, preferring peace, until a summons arrived bearing the unmistakable whirlpool crest of the Shiba family.

Since aiding Shiba Kaien in achieving Bankai, Moyu's interactions with the clan had been polite but distant, limited to gifts during noble gatherings, so the invitation was unexpected. Hoping it wasn't trouble, he brought Nilu and left Seireitei for the Shiba estate in Rukongai's West Third District, where something black and heavy dropped from above the moment he stepped inside. Yoruichi's familiar voice sounded from atop his head, urgent with news, though Moyu's dry remark about her shedding fur only earned him a hiss before she declared the matter serious. He greeted Shiba Kūkaku politely before turning back, his offhand comment about even Urahara's death not qualifying as urgent evaporating when Yoruichi revealed that black cavities to Hueco Mundo had appeared in Karakura Town, Aoko Town, and Sakaihara City; three Quincy squads had already vanished inside, and now the pure-blood Ishida family had entered one—just before it closed.

Her gaze searched his calm expression as the silence thickened until he finally asked if Masaki had gone with them. Yoruichi's nod brought a quiet weight into the room, his steady tapping on the table the only sound as his composure sharpened instead of breaking into rage. Every thread—Quincy, black cavity, the three cities, and the Ishida name—pointed to Aizen Sōsuke, and Moyu recognized the calculated precision of the trap. If it had been only the Ishida, he might have ignored it, but Masaki's presence meant they had walked in knowing the danger, using each other as bait. The air chilled until Kūkaku shivered, feeling the oppressive weight of Moyu's presence despite no reiatsu release.

Though Yoruichi urged calm and pointed out Masaki's captain-class strength with Blut Vene and Heilig Pfeil, Moyu simply rested a hand on her head and assured her he would not act impulsively, the tone making her less certain. After she left, he took Nilu to the scarred slopes of Mount Koifuchi, where he began Urahara Kisuke's incantation for opening a black cavity. Black reiatsu surged between his palms, space groaning as cracks spiderwebbed outward, sealed within his spiritual suppression, until the boundary tore open under sheer force without the need for a striker. Satisfied it worked, he asked Nilu if returning to Hueco Mundo bothered her, and her fang-flashed grin answered for her.

In the pale desert of Hueco Mundo, where shattered stone and endless dunes stretched to the horizon, ten figures in Quincy white emerged from the air, led by Ishida Sōken. They had come to search for the missing—mixed-blood Quincy were expendable, but pure-blood elders were not. Among them, only Sōken and Kurosaki Masaki were masters, and guilt tugged at Sōken's gaze as it lingered on her. He had opposed the decision, but the elders' will had overruled him, and remaining behind would have meant a lifetime of shame. He could only hope that the Shinigami Kuchiki Moyu would not hold this against them.

Deep within Las Noches, a massive screen lit a stark chamber where white-clad Arrancar watched dots move across the map. "The bait has appeared," Szayel Aporro said with a curl of his lips, his voice dripping with satisfaction. "Now we wait for the big fish."
