Chapter 4 - Chapter 4: Looking Down on People

"Excuse me, who are you here to see?"

Lin Yi had barely taken a few steps when he was stopped by the building's security guard.

"Just a moment, let me check."

Lin Yi thought to himself that big cities were really proper—they even had security guards. Though this guard was all show and couldn't even match Er Gou.

Er Gou was Lin Yi's playmate who didn't know kung fu but could punch a bull to death.

From Lin Yi's perspective, this security guard was much weaker than a bull—not even close to bull-strength.

Lin Yi pulled out his note, double-checked the characters, then said, "I'm looking for Chu Pengzhan."

"Chu Pengzhan? Who's that? That name sounds familiar."

The guard looked confused for a moment, muttering to himself.

"Isn't that the president!"

The older security guard nearby reacted faster, immediately remembering who Chu Pengzhan was, and was shocked.

He quickly grabbed the first guard's sleeve and whispered, "Don't say anything stupid. If the captain hears you, you'll get fired!"

"Oh!"

Hearing the older guard's words, the first guard was greatly startled, eyes wide with shock. He regretted running his mouth and wondered why he'd bothered saying anything when he didn't know what he was talking about.

Now what? He didn't even know who the president was—what kind of security guard was he? Who was he supposed to be guarding?

But looking at Lin Yi's outfit, this guard's eyes lit up and he wasn't scared anymore.

No matter how you looked at it, Lin Yi didn't seem like someone who'd have anything to do with the president. One was the president of a Fortune 500 company, the other was a migrant worker from the countryside—what connection could there possibly be?

Maybe this young guy came from some construction site to complain to the president?

With that thought, the guard immediately became alert. He'd just watched a similar movie called "The President and the School Beauty Are Crazy About Me," where a migrant worker came to demand money from the president.

Thinking this, the guard exchanged glances with the older guard. Clearly, they were both thinking the same thing.

"What do you want with President Chu?"

The older guard cleared his throat, staring seriously at Lin Yi, watching for any aggressive moves.

"I'm not looking for him—my old man told me to find him."

Lin Yi answered impatiently.

Lin Yi couldn't care less what kind of status his employer had in the real world. After all, they were the ones asking him for help.

"Hmm? Your old man?"

Hearing Lin Yi's words, both guards became even more convinced. In the movie, the migrant worker came to demand money on behalf of his brother, but this young guy in front of them was definitely here to demand money on behalf of his father.

"Forget it, enough small talk. What floor is Chu Pengzhan on? I'm going up to see him!"

Lin Yi didn't have time to waste chatting with these two guards. Better to just meet the guy directly.

"The president isn't in. Please leave..."

The older guard looked Lin Yi up and down again, completely convinced he had absolutely nothing to do with the president, then clearly told him to get lost.

Lin Yi was getting tired of dealing with these two. He could read their expressions and pretty much knew what they were thinking. Basically, they thought his clothes looked too country, right?

Damn snobs!

"If he's not in, I'll wait inside!"

With that, Lin Yi strode toward the company entrance.

"Wait, you can't go in!"

The two guards hadn't expected Lin Yi to try forcing his way in and hurriedly tried to stop him.

Just then, the elevator doors on the first floor opened, and a somewhat chubby middle-aged man came out with a slightly dark, thin middle-aged man.

"Based on the time, it should be about now, but we haven't heard from little Yi yet. Li Fu, why don't you go straight to the station to pick him up? You've seen the photo, right?"

The chubby middle-aged man instructed the other dark, thin middle-aged man.

"Yes, President Chu. I'll go right away."

Li Fu answered respectfully.

Before Li Fu could leave, Chu Pengzhan heard the commotion at the company entrance and frowned. "Go see what's happening first."

"What's going on?"

Li Fu hurried toward the company entrance and saw two security guards blocking a young man from entering the company.

"Uncle Fu, this guy says he wants to see the president and is trying to force his way into the company..."

The guard naturally knew Li Fu. Although Li Fu didn't have a specific administrative position in the company, he was the person closest to the president!

If you had to name his position in the company, it would be President Chu's driver.

But everyone in the company knew that Li Fu was more than just a driver.

So these guards didn't treat Li Fu like a mere driver—they respected him like a boss.

In many cases, Li Fu's words represented the president's will.

"Are you..."

Li Fu looked at Lin Yi, his eyes widening in slight surprise. "Are you Mr. Lin Yi?"

"Yes, that's me."

Lin Yi glanced at Li Fu and nodded.

From the moment Li Fu appeared, Lin Yi had been watching him. He could instinctively tell this person wasn't Chu Pengzhan.

As a group president, he should naturally have the imposing aura of someone in authority, but this person didn't have that. Though he was stern and commanded respect, a person's natural aura couldn't be changed.

"Nice to meet you!"

Li Fu knew how much Chu Pengzhan valued this young man, so after confirming Lin Yi's identity, he didn't dare be careless and immediately extended his hand for a handshake.

"I'm Li Fu, President Chu's secretary. The president was just telling me to go to the station to pick you up, but you're already here!"

"No problem. It was a good chance to learn the route."

Lin Yi smiled and shook hands with Li Fu.

That was just Lin Yi's personality—if others respected him, he'd respect them back. Since Li Fu was being so polite, Lin Yi felt a bit embarrassed instead.

"The president is over there. This way please, let's go see the president together."

Li Fu gestured for Lin Yi to follow and began walking ahead.

The two guards from earlier stared blankly at Lin Yi's retreating figure, mouths hanging open in shock.

"He really was the president's guest?"

The young guard muttered in disbelief.

"Uncle Fu came out personally to greet him—it can't be wrong!"

The older guard sighed. "We almost screwed up big time. Good thing Uncle Fu showed up. If we'd actually turned him away, it would've been a disaster!"

From the moment Li Fu approached, Lin Yi had been watching the somewhat chubby middle-aged man standing a bit away. If his guess was right, this should be the person he wanted to meet—Pengzhan Group's President Chu Pengzhan.

"You must be Mr. Lin Yi?"

As Lin Yi walked over with Li Fu, Chu Pengzhan also strode toward them with large steps, very warmly extending his right hand.
