To the Wave — Part 1

Turtle Island

"Well, my girls, you're finally ready. Tomorrow we're heading back to Kumo — you're officially Genin now."

"YEEEEEEEESH! Hear that, Hinata-chan? We rock! We're the best ever! BEWARE THE GENIN OF KUMOGAKURE — MUAHAHAHAHAHA!" shouted Naruko, fist-pumping with glee.

"Naruko-chan, calm down. You're going to scare the wildlife," Hinata said softly.

"OWWW, don't be so mean to me, my hime! I'm one step closer to being Raikage! MUAHAHAHA!" Naruko declared dramatically, raising her hands like she was cradling the world.

"Congratulations, my kits," rumbled Kurama from within.

"Naruko-chan… behave, and I might have a little treat for you tonight," Hinata purred.

Naruko immediately stood at attention and saluted like a soldier.

"Wise choice, Naruko. Wise choice. Always keep your mate happy — especially if she's female. Trust me, ancient wisdom!" laughed the Kyūbi in both their minds. Hinata giggled.

As Bee transformed into his bijū form and switched places with Gyūki to sail them to the mainland, the amused Hachibi chuckled, "So, how's mated life treating you, little ones? Any chance of kits soon?"

Both girls blushed hard.

Kumogakure no Sato – Raikage's Office

A was beaming. The N&H project had exceeded all expectations. Both girls had grown into powerful and promising kunoichi — arguably stronger than any ninja their age. Granted, they had the Kyūbi, but their success was built on more than that: original fighting styles, innovative jutsu, and sharp discipline. All before even being full-fledged Genin.

Suppressing a proud grin, A looked up as his favorite girls entered the office with Bee.

"Yo, Brokage, we're here! So, where those headbands at?"

"Damn right, Sensei! I can't wait to wear my hitai-ate like a true Kumo ninja! Gimme gimme gimme! C'mon, Brokage, old man!" Naruko bounced excitedly.

Hinata sighed and bonked both Jinchūriki on the head before bowing respectfully. "A-sama, we've returned from our training mission. We believe we are ready to serve as Genin, at your convenience."

"Such a cute and well-mannered kunoichi you are, H-chan. Some others could learn from you," said A, eyeing the knuckleheads with amusement. Then, standing, he handed them two Kumogakure forehead protectors. "Wear them with pride. You two, along with Team D, are the first test subjects for our Advanced Genin Selection Project. I have high hopes for your progress."

He crossed his massive arms. "You've been training nonstop, while the other team's been doing D-rank missions for four years. So you'll be starting with C-rank or higher. Also, you'll be glad to know Yugito-chan is co-sensei of Team D — and, as you hoped, Naruko-chan, she's starting to open up."

The girls beamed with joy.

"This also means the council can't send her on rogue missions behind my back. She's officially assigned. Unless I give her another duty, she stays with her team," A grinned.

Naruko's plan to help Yugito feel comfortable around others was working. Despite their age difference, Yugito had developed an older-sister attitude toward them. Hinata's subtle maneuvering to reduce the council's influence had been equally effective — she was terrifyingly cunning.

"Your first mission will be fitting," A said, retrieving a scroll. "Yesterday, a letter arrived from the Land of Waves. A woman explained how a filthy worm has been leeching off her people — draining their resources, their freedom, even their will to live. She's asked us to protect her father, a bridge builder, so he can complete a bridge that could free them from Gato's grip. She didn't offer money, but instead proposed payment in the form of future profits — a percentage of the bridge's revenue, housing for Kumo shinobi, and salvage rights for any non-sentimental valuables if we raid Gato Corp."

"Here's the catch," he continued. "Her idiot father tried to lowball the mission to Konoha as a C-rank. She believes Gato employs only thugs and ronin, but admits there could be shinobi. So you'll take on this... undefined-rank mission."

"What about the Konoha ninja?" Naruko asked.

"If they're on the mission, cooperate. If they discover you two, let them go. If they try anything… respond however you see fit."

"Limitations?" asked Bee.

"You're team leader, Bee. But let N&H take the reins. Guide them. Naruko — no Kyūbi beyond Cloak Level One. And never in front of Konoha. Bee, you can go full force if things go sideways."

"A-sama," Hinata said, "any guidance for dealing with Gato?"

"Do as you wish. But try to collect evidence before terminating him. Let's be able to justify it. I have a feeling that little rat's guilty of more than we know."

Both kunoichi nodded seriously.

"Leave when you're ready. You'll do fine," A said, waving them out.

"You heard the boss, girls! Pack n' go! Meet ya at the south gate!"

Once the girls had left, Bee turned to his brother.

"So, be friendly to the Konoha nins, yeah?"

"Indeed. We're sending the girls to the Konoha Chūnin Exams. I'm writing the old monkey a letter now. Things are going well. Remember what we taught them?"

"We forgive, but we don't forget," they said in unison.

Wave Country

The Land of Waves was poor—its people looked sickly, and a heavy depression hung over the place like a storm about to break. Team Bee was disgusted. They knew misery; they had learned that where there was wealth, there was always poverty. But this... this was something else. Everyone here looked broken. It was vile.

"Observe. Learn what human greed can do to a land. Even the crops seem to lack the strength to grow—not for lack of water or soil, but because the farmers have no will to nurture them. This is among man's worst sins—the theft of will," said Kurama, his voice laced with disgust as it echoed from Naruko's mouth.

They continued toward their destination, each step fueling their fury. If that Gato man was behind this, he was already a dead man—he just didn't know it yet.

As they reached the client's house, they heard a dog barking. Bee rang the doorbell, and they waited.

"Sakura-chan, Sasuke, get over here! There are three people outside. They smell like ninja. We need to be ready to protect Tazuna and his family!"

"Shut up, mutt. You're injured. And shut that damn dog up too," the moody Uchiha growled.

"That's right, Kiba, you're too noisy."

"The irony—you're the one hurting mine and Akamaru's ears every time you screech," Kiba muttered.

"What do we do, Sasuke-kun? Kakashi-sensei is still out," Sakura fretted.

Meanwhile, Kiba had moved closer to the door. "They smell too different from Zabuza. I don't think they're with him."

Tsunami, hearing this and ignoring her father's attempt to stop her, opened the door—revealing a tall, dark-skinned, muscular man.

"Yo! We looking for a Tsunami-san here. You know her?" Bee said with a confident grin, showing the mission scroll.

"Yes, I'm Tsunami, the bridge builder's daughter. Thank you for accepting my request, shinobi-san," she said, bowing deeply.

"No need for formality here, yo! Name's Killer Bee, and these are my Kumo kunoichi. Come on, girls, greet the client!"

"Bee-sensei, you're blocking the whole door," one of the girls complained.

"Yeah, Bee-sensei, how are we supposed to greet anyone with your bulky ass in the way?! Move, muscle-head!" Naruko shouted.

Bee entered first, prompting the Konoha Genin to take defensive stances in front of Tazuna. Behind him came a blue-eyed, dark-blue-haired girl wearing tight grey pants, a long-sleeved grey shirt, and a black vest with multiple pockets. Her teammate followed—blond with pigtails and blue eyes, wearing loose grey pants and a sleeveless tight black shirt with a similar open vest.

"We are N and H, Tsunami-san. Nice to meet you," Hinata said, bowing politely.

"Yeah, what H-chan said," Naruko added with a wave.

"So, Konoha's involved after all? Yo, where's your Jounin sensei?" Bee asked.

"What are you Kumo ninja doing here?" Sakura demanded, trying to mask her fear.

"Relax, Pinky. We're here for the same reason you are—we got a mission to help these people. So, where's your Jounin, huh?" Bee asked, twirling the scroll.

"Relax, everyone," Tsunami said. "I hired these Kumo ninja. No need to be afraid. Their sensei's upstairs. He arrived yesterday and had a tough battle. He's recovering from chakra exhaustion."

"Tsunami! What is the meaning of this?!" Tazuna snapped.

"This means you're a fool, father!" she snapped back. "Now please, help Kiba-san bring their sensei here so I don't have to explain myself twice!"

Once Kakashi was seated, Tsunami explained how her father foolishly tried to manipulate Konoha into helping them for free. She apologized for his actions, reminding him she suggested a payment plan instead of groveling. Then Bee asked for introductions and details about their current situation.

As the ninja spoke, Tazuna grumbled about how his daughter made him look bad. Tsunami reached for a frying pan to silence him, but a soft, pale hand rested on hers.

"Please calm down, Tsunami-san," Hinata said in her gentle voice. "I think your father is more worried about you being in danger than angry. Some men... just don't know how to show it."

"Yo, kiddos! Here's the drill!" Bee interrupted. "Hatake-san's right—Zabuza's probably still alive. So, while he recovers, we're working together. I'll take one of my girls to the bridge. The rest of you will train with Cyclops here. Once he's up to it, we'll rotate guard duty. Yeah!"

"Bee-sensei, your raps still suck," Naruko muttered.

"At least this time we don't have to translate for you," Hinata added, smirking. Gloomy clouds formed above a pouting Bee.

"So tomorrow, I'll go with H-chan and Sensei to the bridge. That way, if something happens, we can warn each other. Sensei, where are we sleeping?"

"This house's crowded, see? We're camping outside—it's free. Yeah!"

"Bee, stop rapping. You're getting worse," Naruko sighed.

Later that night.

"Kakashi-sensei, do we really have to work with those Kumo ninja? They kind of freak me out. Especially the blonde one—when she looks at me with those slitted eyes, it feels like she wants to eat me."

"Now, now, Sakura, relax. We're allies on this mission."

"We don't need them!"

"We don't have to like them, but there's safety in numbers."

"Hn."

"Sasuke-kun is right! We don't need them. He's strong enough, and those girls will only get in his way!"

"SAKURA, CONTROL YOUR DAMN VOICE! Besides, how do you even know what he's saying? He just grunts. And those kunoichi look pretty strong. Maybe your so-called destined love feels threatened?"

Sakura was about to scream again when Kakashi motioned for silence.

"Kiba is right. They are strong. That blonde kunoichi is the Raikage's younger sister—his team is bound to be special. And the more help we have to protect someone, the better."

Kakashi eye-smiled and started reading his porn. "You know, Sakura, you should offer to bunk with the girls. I've got no problem sharing a room with Bee-san."

Sakura was horrified at the idea of sharing a room with the "freaky girls."

Outside the house, the Kumo ninja set up their tents—one for the jōnin and another for the Uzumakis.

"What do you think, girls?"

"I remember them. Kiba Inuzuka's okay. Sakura is still as pathetic as I remember, and the Uchiha-teme is somehow even more of a bastard than before."

Naruko looked up at the stars, thoughtful. "I think their sensei is Inu-niisan… He was one of the ANBU who actually did his job protecting me. I'll sniff him tomorrow to be sure."

"Relax, everything's going to be fine. But remember—we forgive, but…"

"…we don't forget."

"Sleep well and relax. I'll never let bad things happen to my cute little sisters."

The next morning.

When Sakura woke up, Tazuna and the Kumo ninja were already on their way to the bridge. The other Konoha nin were still in their rooms, and the creepy tattooed blonde was in the living room, reading a book. Sakura tried to sneak past, but the moment she stepped through the door, those predatory cerulean eyes locked onto her.

A shiver ran down Sakura's spine as Naruko's gaze inspected her from head to toe, like she was livestock.

"Good morning, Sakura-san. That is your name, right?"

Sakura nodded quickly, still frightened. Naruko just returned to her book, ignoring her.

Later, after breakfast, the group gathered in a clearing to train.

"Alright, my cute little Genin—plus one. Today we're learning how to climb trees!" Kakashi said with a teasing tone.

"We know how to climb trees already," Kiba stated flatly.

"Excuse me, Konoha-sensei," Naruko interjected, "you mean the chakra control exercise, right?"

"You're right, N-chan. Soooo, you know it? Would you teach it to my Genin? Also, just call me Kakashi."

"Well, Kakashi-san, I'm not doing your job for you just so you can read porn. I'd rather read my own book or train my kenjutsu katas."

"Well, I guess I'll have to explain it myself then," he sighed.

Sakura snapped.

"When are you going to take your job seriously, Sensei? You've been slacking off since day one! You should be honored to train Sasuke-kun!"

"Bah, don't get so worked up… what was it again… ah yes, Pinky." Kakashi snorted. "Let me be clear. I didn't pass you in the true Genin exam. The only one who passed was Kiba—because he understood the value of teamwork. The rest of you are here because the council forced my hand. I'll train you as I see fit. I'll give you the skills you need when you're ready. But every time I try to teach something important, you just tune out. At least Sasuke trains on his own. Want to learn more? Learn the damn lesson first."

"You're hindering Sasuke's growth! You're not worthy to teach us!" Sakura shrieked.

Naruko, Kiba, and even Akamaru winced at the volume.

"No, Sakura. You and Sasuke are hindering Kiba. Your refusal to cooperate is holding the team back. In our shinobi forces, teamwork is everything. Talent means nothing if you're alone. But hey, feel free to ask for a different sensei when we get back. Just don't cry when they're even harsher than me."

Sakura bit her tongue. She knew it was true. Even Sasuke had to admit that teamwork had helped them beat Zabuza. Still, he needed to grow stronger—alone.

Kakashi explained the tree-walking exercise, and the three started training. Kakashi returned to his book.

Hours later, Naruko paused her kenjutsu training to find Sakura finishing the exercise while Kiba and Sasuke were still struggling. Noticing their problem, she approached.

"Want some advice?"

Kiba looked up, panting, and smiled. Sasuke ignored her.

"Yes, please! I don't get what I'm doing wrong—it shouldn't be this hard."

"And you, Uchiha?"

Sasuke grunted.

"Don't mind him. That's just how he talks," Kiba said with a shrug. She motioned for Kiba to follow her. "If His Highness is too proud to ask, then he doesn't deserve the advice. And he's not going to get it by eavesdropping either."

Naruko led Kiba away from earshot. "Ask Pinky for tips on chakra flow. She's probably better at explaining that than I am. But your real problem—and the Uchiha's—is your mindset. You're too angry, too frustrated. That was my issue too. You need to clear your head and relax."

"But what if I'm in a fight?"

"Hahaha, I asked the same thing. Don't worry. Once you get it, it becomes instinctive."

"Thanks, N-chan. Uh… wanna hang out when we get some free time?"

Naruko giggled and winked. "Sorry, Kiba-kun, but H-chan and I are in a serious relationship."

She walked off, leaving a blushing Kiba behind.

Later that day, Kiba asked Sakura for advice. Though he didn't finish the exercise, he improved a lot. When Sasuke demanded the advice from Kiba, he refused.

"Ask them yourself."

Sakura was easy. Naruko? He wasn't going to humiliate himself like that.

That night.

After dinner, just as the Kumo ninja were leaving, Sasuke blocked the door.

"You. The blonde kunoichi. I demand you give me the same information you gave the mutt."

Kakashi and Kiba paled from second-hand embarrassment. Naruko burst into laughter—hard and loud, borderline creepy. Her teammates giggled behind her.

When she finally caught her breath, she wiped a tear from her eye.

"You—haha—you demand what from me? Are you asking for the free advice you turned down earlier? Oh, this is rich. Ever consider stand-up comedy?"

"SHUT UP! Do you know who I am?!"

"Your friends said your name is Sasuke Uchiha. Nice to meet ya." Naruko cut him off before he could launch into a speech.

"You should be honored I'm allowing you to help me. I'm an elite ninja!"

Naruko laughed again, her teammates joining in.

"What's so funny?" Sakura asked angrily.

"Your teammate is! He thinks I should feel honored to help him. On what grounds? He's not even from my village. Sure, his story is sad—so what? Why should I help a ninja who might be my enemy tomorrow? What do I gain?"

Sasuke's fists clenched. "Fight me! I'll show you!"

"Sensei—Kakashi-san—is this boy for real? First, he demands knowledge from a foreign kunoichi. Then, during a mission with unknown enemies, he wants to duel an ally? If this is Konoha's elite, I feel sorry for your country."

She shoved Sasuke aside and exited with a wave. "See you tomorrow, fellas."

Bee followed, snickering.

The next morning.

Sakura followed the same routine but found the other Kumo girl instead.

"You should tell your teammate to stop trying to steal Sasuke-kun from me. Playing hard to get won't help her either."

Hinata giggled, irritating Sakura.

"You must be delusional. N-chan has no interest in your teammate."

"LIES!"

"She's in a relationship. So am I."

"I know what Kumo kunoichi did in the past to steal bloodlines."

"True. That was then. Our Raikage believes in training strength—not stealing it. Even if you don't believe me, why are you wasting time threatening me instead of lecturing your friends about not jumping into bed with us?"

Sakura started babbling at the thought of talking to Sasuke about sex. Soon, the team gathered for training—with the well-mannered Kumo kunoichi.
