Chapter 303 - Secrets Behind Sealed Doors

Yu Songnian's emotions were tangled and hard to sort out.

Back then, when he fled from Lin City, he had been as frantic as a stray dog.

Forget about his father's relics—he had almost lost his life.

At the time, he thought it was pure luck that let him escape to Tianxing Sect.

But looking back now…

It must have been his master secretly protecting him. Otherwise, the person he was back then would have never made it out alive.

So many years had passed.

Yu Songnian never dared bring trouble to the sect. He had always kept silent about what happened in Lin City. He had never told his junior sister anything about it.

Yet her first mission outside the mountain was in Lin City. She found a treasure like the Sword Tomb, and the first thing she wanted to do with it… was help him reclaim his father's relics.

Yu Songnian's heart softened completely.

This was his junior sister.

People often said she was arrogant, said she never let others off when she had the upper hand—but that was only toward enemies. To those she cared about, his junior sister was the most thoughtful person in the world.

Yu Lin was stunned for a moment. He glanced at Yu Songnian, then quickly said, "That's actually simple. The former clan head's belongings are still in his room. I can take you there at any time."

Realizing it was such a minor matter, Yu Lin even felt a wave of relief.

Nowadays, even people from the Four Great Holy Lands could chat and laugh with Yun Jin. Even Moonlight Sect didn't dare provoke her. How could he possibly go against Yun Jin?

At this point, Yu Lin was desperate for Yun Jin to take Yu Songnian, retrieve the items, and leave the Yu Clan as soon as possible.

"Lead the way," Yun Jin said.

Yu Lin hurriedly took the lead.

Yun Jin and Yu Songnian followed behind, calm and composed.

Before long, Yu Lin brought them to a room.

It was clear that the place had been abandoned for a long time. As soon as the door opened, years of accumulated dust rushed out to greet them.

Yu Songnian fell silent. His eyes grew slightly red.

This was where his father had lived. Ever since his father's tragic death, he hadn't even had time to grieve before he was targeted and forced out. From that moment on, he'd been running for his life.

He hadn't even gotten to see his father one last time.

Yu Songnian's body began to tremble faintly.

Yu Lin grew nervous and said softly, "All of the former clan head's belongings are here. No one's touched anything. Whatever you need, just search for it yourself."

"No one's touched anything?" Yu Songnian turned his head and stared sharply at Yu Lin. "My father loved collecting weapon-type artifacts. Where are those now? And the storage ring he used just for pills—where is it? Don't tell me that my father, a Unity stage cultivator and clan head for so many years, left behind nothing?"

Sweat started to bead on Yu Lin's forehead. He cursed silently to himself.

The pills had long been divided up.

The artifacts and talismans—anything useful had also been split among them. The ones that didn't suit anyone had been thrown into the Yu Clan's Armory Pavilion. How was he supposed to retrieve those now?

Yun Jin gave Yu Lin a calm glance. "It doesn't matter if it's the mortal world or the cultivation world. When the father dies, the son inherits. That's only natural. Since the former clan head was my third senior brother's father, the relics should, of course, go to my third senior brother."

Yu Lin forced a fawning smile. "That may be true, but Songnian wasn't in the clan at the time. I made the call to distribute those items to everyone."

"You made the call?" Yun Jin laughed coldly. "Who are you to make that call? Patriarch Yu, since you've already divided up the previous Patriarch's belongings, then now that my senior brother has returned, it's time to return them to their rightful owner."

Yu Lin's expression darkened slightly.

"Unwilling?" Yun Jin asked. "No problem. If you don't return them today, then I'll wait here in Lin City. I've got plenty of time. I can wait however long it takes. I just wonder… will the disciples of the Four Great Holy Lands be just as patient?"

Yu Lin's pupils contracted sharply.

He'd been watching earlier as well.

He didn't know what that Wushuang Sect secret vault was that everyone was talking about, but if it could attract all Four Holy Lands at once, then it had to be something unimaginably valuable.

The disciples of the Four Great Holy Lands had already made it clear—they wanted to open the vault as soon as possible.

And if they found out…

That it was because of the Yu Clan that Yun Jin refused to open it…

Yu Lin didn't even dare to imagine the consequences.

Regret flooded his heart.

If only he had been more ruthless back then. Even if it meant leaving traces behind, he should've eliminated Yu Songnian the moment he fled. If he had, none of this trouble would exist today.

"Will you return them or not?" Yun Jin asked directly.

Yu Lin gritted his teeth. "I'll return them. I will."

Yun Jin nodded. "Very good."

Yu Lin muttered begrudgingly, "Then I'll go prepare the items. You two can take your time here."

"You'd best hurry. The people from the Four Holy Lands don't seem like the patient sort," Yun Jin said.

Yu Lin clenched his jaw and left in a rush.

Yu Songnian looked slightly uneasy. "Junior sister, the people from the Four Holy Lands just want you to open the vault quickly. But once it's opened… will they really stand by and watch you take the biggest share? When profit's on the line, anything is possible."

Yun Jin gave a sly grin. "What's the rush? Right now, they still don't dare touch me. In fact, they're all doing their best to please me. While we've got that big flag of the Four Holy Lands over our heads, let's use it to handle everything else we need to."

Yu Songnian couldn't help smiling indulgently.

His junior sister… was still as daring as ever.

"Third senior brother, go have a look around. See if Uncle left anything behind," Yun Jin said.

"My father did leave me something," Yu Songnian replied. "But all these years, I never had the chance to retrieve it."

He seemed to have a specific goal in mind.

He glanced around the room, then moved here and there, feeling along the surfaces.

Suddenly, a wall slid open—revealing a hidden chamber.

Yu Songnian stepped inside. A moment later, he came out holding a small sandalwood box.

"Senior brother, what's inside?" Yun Jin asked, curious.

Her main goal this time was to find clues about her third senior brother's bloodline.

She wondered if the contents of the box were related.

Yu Songnian shook his head. "I don't know. But my father once told me that if I reached Unity stage, he would give me something. But I fell ill early on, with that strange affliction. I never got the chance to cultivate to Unity stage. Later, my father stopped mentioning it altogether. On the day he was killed, he must have sensed something was wrong. He handed me a blueprint with instructions on how to open this secret room. This box… was the only thing inside."

"Should we open it?" Yun Jin asked, clearly intrigued.

Yu Songnian nodded and tried to open the box.

But no matter how much strength he used, the box wouldn't budge.

Yu Songnian frowned in thought. "My father said he'd only give me the item once I reached Unity stage. This box… could it require Unity cultivation to open?"
