Chapter 156 - Chapter 158: Into the Shadows

"There are more sealed artifacts appearing in this world than I ever imagined," Dudley thought with growing concern.

"Could it be that all the sealed artifacts that once belonged to me followed me to this world? Or is the situation even worse than that?"

Dudley's expression grew increasingly grave as he considered the implications.

Just from what he currently knew, the Soul Requiem Mirror was wandering freely somewhere, and although he had recovered the Sun Ring, obviously some wizard had already taken notice of its existence.

If Dudley's speculation proved correct, the reason that dark wizard with the Soul Requiem Mirror had wanted to kill that woman was specifically for the Sun Ring.

That woman had obviously realized the danger she faced, so before the dark wizard arrived, she had hidden the ring with Johnson, hoping to wait until the threat passed before retrieving it from him.

Unfortunately, she had underestimated that dark wizard's power and would never have another opportunity to reclaim the artifact.

Dudley carefully placed the Sun Ring into the dimensional space within the Mirror of Erised, letting it rest alongside the Trunsoest Brass Book.

Dudley approached Kingsley and said, "Mr. Shacklebolt, if I wanted to purchase items with unusual magical properties, where would I go?"

"Items with some degree of danger," Dudley added meaningfully.

"Dangerous items?" Kingsley frowned with concern. "You're referring to Dark Magic objects, aren't you?"

"Something like that," Dudley nodded.

"You could visit Knockturn Alley. Quite a few dark wizards congregate there, and most of the items traded are highly illegal. The largest establishment there is called Borgin and Burkes, which specializes in selling dangerous Dark Magic artifacts and has gained considerable notoriety among wizards," Kingsley explained.

"Why are you asking about this? Dudley, Dark Magic items are extremely hazardous, you..."

Kingsley had originally intended to warn Dudley against considering Dark Magic-related objects, but he stopped mid-sentence.

He suddenly realized that when Dudley mentioned wanting to purchase Dark Magic items, he wasn't genuinely interested in buying them. He was suggesting they investigate from this angle.

"I understand now. You mean investigating the origins of that mirror, correct? Indeed, Knockturn Alley might very well have information about that artifact. How did I not think of this approach before?" Kingsley said with obvious delight.

Dudley smiled and nodded approvingly. He had successfully guided Kingsley while also obtaining the information he needed.

"Borgin and Burkes in Knockturn Alley? It seems I need to pay that place a visit," Dudley mentally filed away this crucial information.

Where light existed, darkness would inevitably follow. The magical world operated no differently. This Knockturn Alley very likely represented the shadowy underbelly of the wizarding world, especially since the location apparently attracted numerous Dark Magic artifacts.

If sealed artifacts had indeed wandered into this world, then most likely Dudley would discover clues in that place. It was even possible that he would find sealed artifacts displayed openly on shop counters for sale.

Kingsley was already discussing with other Aurors about conducting searches in Knockturn Alley for leads. Dudley couldn't afford to miss this opportunity.

"Mr. Shacklebolt, if possible, I'd like to participate in your operation," Dudley said with earnest determination.

"You see, I aspire to become an excellent Auror, so I want to gain relevant experience in advance. And I can detect evil auras, so I should be able to provide meaningful assistance."

"Having such ambitious goals... I'm genuinely optimistic about your future," several Aurors laughed upon hearing Dudley's declaration.

Dudley's capabilities were undeniable. He was intelligent, composed, and possessed the logical thinking abilities that many wizards lacked. More importantly, he truly possessed all the qualifications necessary to become an Auror.

As long as his academic performance remained strong, the possibility of him becoming an Auror in the future was extremely high.

"Dudley, if you seriously want to become an Auror, make sure to contact us when you graduate. We can write recommendation letters for you," Cole said with genuine warmth.

"Thank you very much," Dudley replied politely, nodding and smiling at everyone present.

Kingsley considered the request carefully before responding. "Dudley, although I would very much like to bring you along, our work involves considerable danger. Having you assist here presents no problem, but if we're venturing into Knockturn Alley, we won't be able to guarantee your safety."

Hearing this concern, the other Aurors also grew more serious.

Kingsley was absolutely right. Their work was extremely hazardous. Even though they believed Dudley could help them significantly, they couldn't guarantee his safety in such a hostile environment. If something happened to Dudley, they would carry that guilt for the rest of their lives.

"I wouldn't participate in your most dangerous operations, just help you examine Dark Magic items and provide analysis," Dudley clarified. "Also, I understand your work is very dangerous, which is precisely why I want to become an Auror."

"You walk through darkness, protecting everyone's safety. You're the most heroic people going against the tide in this world."

Dudley spoke with genuine conviction.

These heartfelt compliments reached the Aurors' ears and immediately filled them with incredible pride. This was the first time anyone had praised them so eloquently and with such high regard.

"By the way, perhaps I could have Professor Dumbledore write me a recommendation letter. What do you think? With Professor Dumbledore's endorsement, there should be no concerns, right?" Dudley suggested strategically.

Kingsley smiled and agreed. "Very well, if Professor Dumbledore approves this matter, then I'll bring you along. Also, make sure to have Professor Dumbledore mention it to the Minister, which will save us from having to provide explanations later."

"Certainly," Dudley nodded with satisfaction.

Harry watched from the sidelines as Dudley effortlessly won over all the Aurors, feeling deeply envious. He also wanted to become an Auror someday.

"Dudley, I..." Harry quickly spoke up, hoping Dudley would include him as well.

"You stay home and behave yourself," Dudley said firmly.

"But I want to come too," Harry protested urgently.

"Harry, we absolutely cannot take you along. It's far too dangerous," Kingsley also refused decisively.

"Why can Dudley go but I can't?" Harry felt genuinely wronged by this obvious disparity.

"Because you're Harry Potter!" Dudley chuckled with obvious amusement.

"Exactly right," Kingsley agreed wholeheartedly.

Harry fell silent, recognizing the obvious double standard but understanding its reasoning.

At this moment, Harry truly grasped what it meant to be treated differently due to his fame.

However, he also understood that everyone was acting this way to protect him. It was just that this feeling was genuinely unpleasant.

He wanted to fight alongside everyone, not hide behind others and be protected like a delicate greenhouse flower.

"Focus on improving your own abilities first. When you become powerful enough in the future, I'll take you along on these missions," Dudley said, recognizing Harry's frustration and patting his shoulder reassuringly.

In the latter half of the night, Dudley finally returned to his room. Without time for rest, he immediately wrote a detailed letter to Dumbledore, then borrowed the Ministry's owl to send it directly to the headmaster.

Regarding this matter, Dudley felt no anxiety whatsoever. He was confident that Dumbledore would approve his request without hesitation.
